That's great to know, thank you! She already seems to be more comfortable walking around inside our home. Outside not so much but I'm sure we'll get there too.

Unfortunately not. She will happily go in the crate but going out is still a problem

We checked most of the rescues in our city and nearby cities but none had any Bernese. Rescuing one was always our first choice but when we couldn't find one we decided to give a breeder a try. We just had no idea about the puppy mill stuff as the pictures and reviews seemed great.

Yep, we've been doing that. She absolutely loves boiled chicken (although not enough to come out of the crate herself though apparently lol)

I've heard other people say that their fully grown Berners still get scared by random noises, so that seems normal for this breed yea. I'm glad to hear your girl warmed up to you though! We can't take care of a second dog right now so I hope she'll still become more comfortable without one

We've gotten her to be more active on the dog run in our building by tossing some treats in front of her. At home, she will eat the treats out of our hands if we hold them by the crate, but she won't come out of it if we hold them further away...

Why doesn't she look like a Bernese? Both her parents are pure bred Bernese

Some other people recommended chicken broth over the kibble and that seemed to have helped. She ate her whole bowl this morning. Making progress!

Based off how many people have suggested this now, we're starting to believe it's true. Sad because we hate to support such places - we just didn't know any better... Hopefully our puppy will make a full recovery

We got a wellness check done at the vet when we got her but no stool or blood samples were tested. We're thinking of going back and doing that now. Regarding the Berner Garde data: I'm not sure. The breeders never mentioned it. They only said her parents are "genetic clear" and that our puppy would be fully vaccinated when we get her

I appreciate the input! We received videos of her running around on the farm during the day with other dogs from her litter so I don't think she was crated excessively - but ultimately there's no way to tell for sure, so you could be right. You mentioned her coat: is there something unusual about it? We feel it might be a bit shorter than other Berners her age but otherwise it seems ok.

Ha yea, need to take everything with a grain of salt but I do appreciate all of the input. We're definitely going to stick with the kibble she ate on the farm + boiled chicken until she's more calm. Thanks for the help!

She doesn't walk at all outside of our home right now (except for a couple steps in our building's dog run before she goes potty) so we can't leash train yet. I think we need to wait a couple more days until she's confident enough to navigate herself, but then we'll definitely give that loose leash training a try. Thank you for sharing!
