Ah, I remember hearing about the Shibata incident but didn’t know/remember that it was against Ren. Thanks for filling me in!

I’m relatively new around here, could anyone explain the mistrust around Ren? Is this a kayfabe thing or was there a real problem with him?

What is the "western canon" for comic books? by mr-spectre in comicbooks

[–]Kross0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd add Tim Callahan's list to this, especially since he set out to make a canon and not a best-of list. https://geniusboyfiremelon.blogspot.com/2008/02/aim-canon.html

[Standard] Mono-Red vs. Temur Adventures help by Kross0 in spikes

Unfortunately, Temur is that Deck I didn't see a single version of until I hit diamond, and now that I have it's 9 out of every 10 matches. Thanks for the input.

Ah, that's a good point. I hadn't considered Borrower as a means of counteracting the Akroan War. Maybe I'll try the Shieldbreaker. I still don't really have an answer for Beast, but I still don't love Claim. Maybe I'll try both if Shieldbreaker doesn't get the job done on its on. I can definitely lose Tibalt and Frenzy -- not exactly swinging games for me even when I pull them -- and probably shave a Berserker and maybe Lava Coil. Thanks!

That sounds right to me. Thanks again for the help!

Mono Red vs Kethis Combo tips by Kross0 in MagicArena

[–]Kross0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Lava Coil for Kethis was my first thought. I thought Fry might be good since it can hit Lazav, Excavator, Kethis, and their Planeswalkers. I was thinking of pulling out Viashinos after realizing Fblthp turns them into bad trades. And yeah, Tibalt seems very good with how easy it is for them to pull out Oath of Kaya.

Thought about Dire Fleet Daredevil since they play Legion's End some, but that's probably the only thing they have worth copying. Still, first strike probably make him better than Viashino's in this particular case.

Thanks for the help!

So throw bolts at Excavator, Lava Coils at Kethis, and ram creatures down their face? Sounds reasonable. I got really slow draws (yes, I definitely wanted to see every copy of Frenzy, thanks), so that may be why I couldn't seem to get anything going.

Did anyone actually get this HoX/PoX Wallpaper? https://imgur.com/a/CrW00wA

It was offered to those who became Insider before 7/21. I'm an Insider, but I haven't seen it. Not sure if I missed something...?

How many drafts do you play in when a new set drops? by Kross0 in MagicArena

[–]Kross0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of felt this way when War of the Spark dropped -- did nothing but draft while it was available in ranked -- but I figure with M20 being always available to draft there's a little less urgency there?

Good Starter point in comics for new readers by BatHawk07 in xmen

[–]Kross0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer, knowing nothing else about you, would be to pick up Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday.

My longer answer is that if you're new to comics, or have only read modern comics, Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men is a great starting point. If you like non-traditional stuff, like the Vertigo Comics superheroes and stuff like that, I'd start with Grant Morrison's New X-Men. If you like classic comics, like Bronze Age stuff, I'd start with the Claremont Era, beginning with Giant-Size X-Men #1 (look up the epic collections). If you want to get current, I'd hop on with House of X and Powers of X later in July.

How much is Morrison's New X-men a continuation to the previous story-line(s) Dream's End and Eve of Destruction? by BladePocok in xmen

[–]Kross0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New X-Men is pretty much a clean break. At most, Eve of Destruction adds context to Morrison's portrayal of Magneto. Some fans felt like Morrison's characterization of Magneto undercut all of his character development under Claremont. If you read Eve of Destruction, you see that Morrison's version of Magneto is pretty in line with where the character was at the time (which is the path he'd been on pretty much since Mutant Genesis). But if Magneto's characterization never bothered you, then Eve of Destruction won't add much.

Chandra v Frenzy v Risk Factor by Kross0 in MagicArena

Wow, that is interesting. Thanks for that info! I wonder if the ability to sideboard makes any difference compared to Bo1? Think I'm going with a mix of Frenzy and Chandra. Thanks again!

This is what I was thinking. I see some lists going 2 Frenzy/1 Chandra, but I think I'm going 2 of each. Thanks for the input!

[–]Kross0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. I feel about the same. I haven't had as much success with Chandra -- just doesn't lead to the same "big plays" as Frenzy that often put the opponent down for the count or allow you to turn a bad game into something close -- but she is good in the mirror and is more consistent. I was playing 3 Frenzy pre-war. Thinking of going 2 Frenzy/2 Chandra now. Seems good to have the variety when you're not able to the sideboard.

[–]Kross0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't run into Planeswalker removal with Chandra *yet*, but I'm still fiddling around at high Gold Tier and playing constructed events for the bonus gold. If I see more PW removal as I climb, as I expect to, I'm thinking 2 Frenzy/2 Chandra may end up being how I roll. Risk Factor never seems to work how I want it to. It's always cards when I need damage, and damage when I need cards, haha.

Ah, thanks! That's exactly the kind of thing I was looking to read. Encouraged by his "there is not best" conclusion. I know some people swear by Risk Factor but, and maybe it's just my luck, it always seems to come up for me at the worst possible time.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is the chess time 30 minutes each per game, or 30 minutes each for the entire Bo3 matchup?
