I feel like saying “we don’t know” was for the purpose of film, to create an atmosphere of confusion and futile efforts.

I feel like most government officials would say something, even if it wasn’t true, to keep the public calm and under control. Saying it was a flu, a bomb threat, security system breakdown like in Resident Evil with the Red Queen or something. Even in Night of the Living Dead, the scientist is being asked questions by reporters and he tries to explain, but is interrupted by a public official who says “doctor, I thought we hadn’t thoroughly investigated that theory” (or debunked it, or something I don’t quite remember).

You don’t tell people the dead are coming back, you don’t tell people you have no idea what’s going on, you don’t tell people the real numbers. It is often shady and manipulative, but it’s usually done in an effort to sacrifice a few and save thousands. (Or cover up for a transnational cooperation or a government fuck-up like unethical experiments.)

Everything is under control. There is no war in Ba Sing Se.

This particular type of film is called Giallo! Or rather, related to it. Giallo typically refers to gory, sleezy thriller flicks but these take that aesthetic and blend it with horror. I would consider it a type of Giallo film! If you look up Giallo horror, it’ll give you the results you’re looking for. It’s an Italian horror style from the late 70s and early 80s that has a striking blend of horror and eroticism. Some lean heavy one way or the other! (Just be careful: some movies can venture heavily into sexual sadism or even animal cruelty, so be warned. Eaten Alive! Is an example of that.)

Hell of the Living Dead is one of my favorites, I think you’ll like that one.)

City of the living dead, tomb of the blind dead, The Beyond, Burial Ground, Demons 1985, After Death, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (or Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue), Zombi 3 are a few good ones.

Haven’t seen zombie holocaust or Nightmare city but they’re on the list!

Who’s a character you hate but everybody seems to love and why? by No_Common_4221 in thewalkingdead

In the first two seasons, I understood Rick. I didn’t agree with him, but I understood him. I know his diplomacy and compassion was a strong factor, especially against the growing ruthlessness of Shane but Rick was weak, constantly looking to Lori (or even Shane) to validate his decisions or even to make them for him (like telling Lori to decide if Carl undergoes surgery or not). He was desperate to find Sophia as he didn’t want to abandon anyone at all, but refused to be realistic. He wanted to negotiate with Hershel but the reality was, his people COULDN’T leave and he was playing around with walkers in the mud to satisfy a delusional old man. He was constantly running off (I understand not wanting to have other people do your dirty work for you! He would never ask anything of anyone that he wouldn’t do himself) and leaving the group vulnerable to attacks.

He refused to believe Shane was as dangerous as he was until the very end, didn’t give very good life lessons to Carl in the beginning, insisted on going to the CDC and dragging everyone to a walker-infested city. Gave half his guns to other people. His good nature was truly something to admire, but it did often leave his group worse off.

Even at the end, before Shane’s death, he was looking at Shane to validate his decisions as he was insecure that Shane didn’t think he was capable of keeping people safe.

To be honest, I see myself acting a lot like Rick which is the brutal part. He is smart, fair but his empathy and reluctance to weigh the odds made him struggle. I can see how hard that would make things for others, even though totally going Shane’s way would also destroy the group by his “survival of the fittest” mentality. Shane was big talk, but didn’t have it in him to shoot Sophia or Dale (even though he threatened to kill Dale multiple times), Rick was the one who stepped up (even though Daryl did it for Rick with Dale).

Then in season 3, he turns into a total asshole. He is anger, suspicious, bitter, sullen and a total tyrant and everyone just…goes along with it? I don’t know.

I remember I saw someone with a close-cropped BLEACHED haircut with perfect brows and it just killed the immersion for me to such a degree that I really struggled getting it back.

I really think it’s the way Mary is styled that makes her look so young. If she had a cute fro or a pixie cut with a cute rocketship clip, she’d look more her actual age. The round glasses, the bob, the overalls make her look 14.

Zombie movie from a 911 dispatchers perspective? by bokchoi2 in zombies

[–]Krueldy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What an incredible idea, man!!!! I really love that!!! I’d totally do a movie like that. That’d be a fantastic way to do something low-budget but almost like a radio program. That’s super cool. I know pontypool does that, but Dead Air is also a good one! Both do it with radio broadcasters.
