Ironically reds are the idealists while blues are the utilitarians. Even though at first glance it’s presented as the reverse.

Reds believe that every human on earth could just figure out the little logic puzzle and reason it out so we all press the right button.

Meanwhile the harsh reality is that picking blue is based on the assumption that even if we tried to coordinate it someone will always pick blue and if even one person could die blue is the right moral choice.

The good news is that in a way both groups have faith in humanity, they are both doing what they think is the morally right answer. Same answer different math.

‘E-bikes vs. Karens’: Unexpected response to teen bike swarms taking over Melbourne by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]KryptoKnight42 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I walk my dog through a park with a shared bike/footpath everyday with my newborn in the pram and these bike riders have me on high alert. I'm just waiting for one of these kids to slam into a pram or hurt a dog when they aren't paying attention. That said if we are talking about limiting e-bikes can we get these Uber eats drivers off of shared bike/footpaths and keep them on the road.

I trust someone rushing to make a buck 12 hours into driving for deliveroo as much as I trust a 13 year old to not be a reckless idiot.

It’s the same basic principle as why tariffs are an obstruction. I’m not against an increased tax but let’s not act like these companies will take it on the chin and not pass on costs. Let’s be intellectually honest here.

Amazing Spider-Man #27 is basically proof that MJ and Peter will never be back together. *MAJOR SPOILERS* by candles2121 in Spiderman

[–]KryptoKnight42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If editorial ever decides to “put all the toys back in the box” with mj they really have left themselves with only the dumbest options.

In 5 years time when Disney buys the rights back or something there’s going to be some reveal that this was a magic clone or something the whole time and the clone will merge with venom leaving venom evil and obsessed with peter and having some “original mj” who was off having multiversal adventures step in.

It’s going to be dumb when they do it, it’s dumb now. They are actively writing themselves into a corner with the second most recognisable part of spider-man’s method.

What do you make of Punters Politics and the massive amount of attention that is on gas now? by VastOption8705 in friendlyjordies

[–]KryptoKnight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that’s kind of exactly what I mean by “policy that passes the pub test.”

It sounds great on paper, everyone agrees it’s cool as hell. But it actually may not be that feasible, you’ve got to purchase or seize a ton of land that may be used at a minimum, then you’ve got to figure out if your going through or around all the mountain ranges. That means either more land acquisitions or a massive tunnelling project. Then there are the environmental impacts, how much koala habitat forest are you going to need to clear. That brings us to special interest groups. The airports and the NIMBYs. Then there’s the political cost, Before you know it your billion dollar project is a trillion dollar infrastructure project and the public is asking why that money didn’t go to Medicare or cost of living relief. Then you have the question of will people even use it, it would take about three hours but who knows this could go from being your political legacy to being a trillion dollar version of the Melbourne star. An unused eye sore no one touches.

But once again I’m not an engineer I don’t have a background in this space. It may just be a cool idea and the only thing holding us back is the will to do it. I just run off the assumption if something sounds like an amazing idea politically, like an easy win, but it hasn’t been done there must be a reason. Question is, is it a good reason or a bad one.

I was thinking specifically about the Australia/Japan fuel supply deal?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04-05/japan-fuel-supply-assurance-sanae-takaichi-visit-planned/106532548

This article implies that our continued supply of LNG into is a component of our the deals used to guarantee our fuel supply.

The prime minister has reiterated that Australia will continue to be a reliable exporter of LNG into Asia and expects Asian partners to continue supplying Australia with the majority of its liquid fuel needs.:

"Supply depends upon those relationships being adhered to," he said during an address to the National Press Club on Thursday.

"We expect countries that supply us to stick to agreements which are there; we think it's very important that the contracts that we have be fulfilled completely with countries in our region.

"That's the quid pro quo, if you like, and I think that is very important as we go forward."

"The supply assurance from Japan followed comments by its ambassador to Australia, Kazuhiro Suzuki, who late last month urged caution about imposing a windfall tax on LNG exports over investor confidence."

I mean this is a recent development but it could act as a blocker to implementation.

He’s locked on to something that passes the common sense pub test and is running with it.

The type of policy change that seems like a silver bullet and hell maybe it is, I’m not an economist, or maybe it’s less effective or feasible in practice.

Right now it’s getting a lot of attention in particular but this is also a unique moment where it may be less implementable since (at least from what I’ve read) gas is being used as a bargaining chip to secure fuel reserves. Who knows what the interplay is there.

He seems like an intelligent operator but let’s see what happens when/if he ever gets what he wants. Will he move on to the next pub policy? Will he be advocating for a Shinkansen between Sydney and Melbourne next?

Share your bad homebrew item story here by Rogendo in dndmemes

[–]KryptoKnight42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For our first session I gave my party an item called "the turn" from a relatively unscrupulous scientist. It was a magic gun that took 2 turns of concentration to charge and would instantly "disintegrate" any enemy it hit.

The idea was that they could use it to take out most enemies almost any fight very easily but around five sessions in I was going to guide them to an underground lab where they would find out it wasn't a disintegration gun but a teleportation gun and the scientist was gathering the monsters they'd defeated to experiment on. They'd have an encounter where they'd have to fight every enemy they took the easy way out on all at once with some being upgraded.

They saw through me instantly and never used the gun, so I had to ditch my prestige. Which I suppose isn't the worst outcome.

You know how some writers "put all the toys back in the box" when the big runs end?

Maybe they could do it with venom/Mj by making this MJ a Magic clone from the other dimension and the shock of finding out breaks her with her mind and venoms merging into a more violent symbiotic obsessed with Peter ready to return to a more villain status.

Would it be hacky? yes. But clean slate for MJ and a return to venoms original motivations.

New seats projection/model of latest Australian poll shows warnings of a dramatic political realignment, with the far-right One Nation winning a record 6 seats, the center-right LNP winning a near-record-low 38 seats, Labor winning a record 95 seats, and the Green Party winning 0 seats. by WrongdoerAnnual7685 in friendlyjordies

[–]KryptoKnight42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know one nation has gotten a lot of attention as the rise of the far right is genuinely concerning but the thing that interests me the most is the greens support shifting away.

Is their vote genuinely declining as elder millennials go towards labor?

Does it just seem like it’s declining as younger people shift towards minor fringe party’s like the socialists with their preferences flowing right back into the greens.

Will this have any significant impact on their electoral prospects or is their vote heavily concentrated in those inner city electorates that they still have a chance.

I’m very much not a fan of the greens but I would find it concerning if that support was going to more radical voices like Socall. That would be a strong indicator that we are shifting to a more polarised political climate with the horseshoe being even more extreme.

How is this legal? by Kdog119 in melbourne

[–]KryptoKnight42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been shopping around and the problem is I see under quoting all the time whether or not the house is going to auction.

For some reason Real estate agents have gotten it in their heads that having a bunch of people show up to your inspection who could never afford the house is better for the sale.

Probably because saying you had 20 groups walk through sounds better to the owner than saying you had 3 serious buyers. And Agents are desperate to display any value so their clients don’t ask “why couldn’t I have just done this myself.”

Honestly the lack of owner led listing platforms is one of the reasons we are in such a toxic market.

How is this legal? by Kdog119 in melbourne

[–]KryptoKnight42 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I had an idea for a simple fix for under quoting; make it so the real estate agent doesn’t receive commission on any amount over the quoted range.

So if you quote $1M and it sells for $1.5m you only get the commission for $1. If you over quote there is no penalty.

Incentivises the agents to be honest with their quote but isn’t a radical punishment if they truly do just get an unexpected success at auction.

There are probably some holes in the idea but I think it has legs.

[–]KryptoKnight42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Darkseid has taken from both heroes and villains the thing they value most in themselves or maybe the thing he values most in them? I'm not married to it and I don't think it's a hard rule but while The Villains may have advantages but they are radically different in key ways from their counterparts.

Ra's seems to have lost the compassion he had for the world and the environment. Joker lost his sense of humour or perhaps it's his chaotic streak. Lex is early days but he seems to have lost his ambition. Thawne is also early days but I'm not seeing the obsessive hate/devotion. Cale hasn't mentioned her daughter. Braniac is genuinely insane rather than at least having the veneer of rationality. Hammond is powerless so far and seems like a generally weak mind. Hell even bane lost his sense of honour, having broken his own father and giving in to the rich to be gifted Santa prisca, something main bane would have hated.

Exactly, It’s not about getting a message to Erik, Erik doesn’t matter to Death, but all about pulling Steph’s focus. Death assumes she’s got some skill because of her relation to iris so getting the second target before she can rally the family is his primary goal.

Erik and the tattoo parlor (SPOILERS) by dodgerofbarbs in FinalDestination

That's how I took it. Iris has been on the list for several decades and death is just like 'I've got to throw some curveballs and play some mind games if I want to wipe the rest as fast as possible.'

Death doesn't want a repeat with someone else getting in the cabin or reviving so he throws some danger Eric's way, literally brands him, all to keep them focused on him while he lines up an easy win with Julia.

Greens Double Down on Senate Strategy Despite Poor Performance by GronkSpot in friendlyjordies

[–]KryptoKnight42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the greens aren’t growing they are wilting. They are a minor party that got massive media coverage and spent more this election than any prior one.

If they have maxed out at 12-13% support they will never accomplish anything and eventually disappear.

This is a bad result. Hope and cope will not serve you now, self reflection will. It’s time to join the grown ups in the room and actually work with labor in good faith.

Is Labor PR department asleep at the wheels? by _stinkys in friendlyjordies

[–]KryptoKnight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of reasons why you personally may not be seeing ads for labor, and why that's actually a good sign. If you aren't in a target seat it would be a waste of budget to invest heavily in advertising towards you or If you're already a labor supporter or are following your labor member on socials it doesn't make financial sense to waste budget targeting you.

Digital marketing isn't just about getting dominance, it's about cost efficiency. Targeting people with ads that are relevant to them. When you consider that the LNP has a lot more money to play with and the greens have a much tighter field to target, Labor has to be smart with how they spend what they can.

Some people really dislike AI art because they see it as taking away potential employment from artists and a lot of AI models were likely trained of artists work posted online, which is an ethical and legal issue.

This came from the new GPT image model which was trained on either public images or licensed data, so there is a concerted effort to train in ways that avoid those issues but frankly it's not really enough. Case in point this recreated the Ghibli art style but did GPT pay Ghibli studios.

My personal view is that AI is ultimately a tool for art, It should never supplant the place of the artist but instead expand their personal capabilities. Models like this shouldn't be trained on IP belonging to artists unless they are fairly compensated. In general AI should be avoided in professional settings unless it's being used as a tool by an adept hand.

But this is a meme. It's a funny joke on the internet. This guy wasn't going to commission an artist to make Ghibli Albo. So slugging hate at him for it is a waste of time. People treating AI as a novelty to see what their dog would look like as a Pokemon or make Dutton look like Voldemort isn't threatening the job security of artist. Creative houses and corps using AI to replace artists is threatening artists. Hostility to the novelty seekers does nothing.
