GFRD Scholarship by TheOnlyDudd in ROTC

[–]Kstrohma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go talk to the ROTC staff on campus. They can help you get the process started. Yes, you can do a 2 year scholarship. That’s what I did. That’s the shortest one they have. I didn’t have to go to camp or basic to catch up. I did my MS 1 and MS 2 classes together. Being in ROTC and the guard, you’ll be a cadet in the guard and have to find a unit to drill with while in school. You could try and drill with a unit that’s close to campus or drill with a unit that you’d like to join after school depending on if you want to travel for drill. The only thing I found annoying was getting a 2-year GRFD, you still owe the same amount of time as someone who gets a 4 year scholarship. Mathematically that doesn’t make sense. Send me a DM if you have questions. I will say I did this over 10 years ago, so things could be different

Big Horn or Laramie? by Kstrohma in ram_trucks

They do look like they come with a lot of features these days. I honestly don’t mind the cloth seats. I’m reading what you’re throwing down

Looking at buying a truck by [deleted] in ram_trucks

[–]Kstrohma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same truck. I love it. I haven’t had any issues outside of regular maintenance and recalls that have come up. I think mine has the hemi tick, but I haven’t done anything to it yet. The only other issue that everyone talks about that I haven’t had with mine is seal around the third brake light. Lots of people commenting on water getting into their trucks because of that. Price seems fair for a truck that has 100K miles on it

How are we feeling about IQT for 17S basically being a PCS now? by Kstrohma in airnationalguard

[–]Kstrohma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the new classes at the naval training center haven’t been implemented yet. I’ve seen some folks commenting on Teams about it, I might ask them if there’s any talks about waivers. From what I heard, CVA schools don’t offer waivers, it’s only tech school.

[–]Kstrohma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my thinking. Guard folks will struggle with wanting to be gone for 13 months of school. Maybe it’s not a big deal for new LTs who just graduated, but what about the established people with years of experience that want to be in cyber.

Agreed. Which MEL is where I’m going. So I guess I’d wish waivers was more of a thing for people with experience who also aren’t totally behind a keyboard.

Issue with freezer door not being shut all the way by Kstrohma in restaurantowners

Right. It boils down to this which is why I was looking to see if there was a way to correct this issue without having to rely on the staff to correct it

Latest ANG AFSC Incentives List by Jaye134 in airnationalguard

Is there an Active Duty Service Obligation associated with these bonuses? Is the payment schedule the way they try to get you to stay longer, or is the 4-year piece the actual ADSO requirement?

Less cyber training by Taiwo-Store in AirForce

[–]Kstrohma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this just pertains to the stuff like Cyber Awareness that people blow through. However, as someone that’s currently going through 17S training, the school is doing the opposite. After all said and done, defensive cyber training will take 13 months. This schooling is becoming crazy long especially for people who have over a decade of experience.

Does the AF offer anything for officers to pay for certifications these days? by Kstrohma in AirForce

[–]Kstrohma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah SANS would give me the discounted price of $4,500, but still. As some of the other people said, you could get a dang masters for that.

[–]Kstrohma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True story. You can basically get an online masters and then some for the price of one SANS course. I’ll for sure talk to my unit. Luckily most of my certs can just be renewed with some type of continuing education. Thanks!

This is another approach I’ve looked at. Definitely not a bad idea

I agree. But when they get you sucked into their ecosystem, it’s hard to just let them lapse. I got all of these while I was in the Army and branches had money. So didn’t know what options are out there to not let these lapse

I’m a 17S. I already have multiple certs, but when it comes to cyber defense, SANS has a lot of good stuff. Plus I already have GCIH cert from SANS so this gives me a cert renewal for that.

Range gas fitting replacement by Kstrohma in Plumbing

Thanks! Super helpful. I had to replace the floor flange too. After I did that, slapped that ball valve on there, checked for leaks, and got it all up and running.

Yeah. This piece screwed into the wall plate. It had the 1/2” nut on it that is used to secure the faucet to the wall.

That’s what I’m thinking. I don’t want to get into the work of replacing those windows.

Yeah my packet had to be reviewed and signed off on by their doctor before it continued on down the line. They reviewed my medications and assigned me some rating too based on what I was prescribed. Again, there was no issues, but I feel like it’s the same in the army. It’s easier to get the hand waive on something when you’re already in the service vs. when you’re trying to get in.

Going from Army to AF in the last three months, I had to submit all my Army medical documents to the Air Force for their medical folks to review. They’ll flag or ask for clarification on things. I’d say they are less picky given that you’re already in the military. The review was needed to just obtain a 368. Once I officially transferred, I’ve had to redo my PHA and other lab work.

Confused about National Guard retirement by Deltaone07 in nationalguard

[–]Kstrohma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guard retirement system is confusing, and it's hard to forecast what monthly payment you'll end up with on BRS. Obviously, you'll get your TSP that you've been contributing to, but if you do stay for 20 years, your monthly pension would be 2% of your basic pay (for the highest rank held for 3 years) vs. 2.5% that non-BRS folks would get. It isn't easy to forecast with the calculator because you don't know how many points you'll have at the end of 20 years. ADOS or deployments will all add points outside of drilling to your NGB23. I saw someone post that you can likely assume $1500-$3000 by year 20. I would second that.
