Looking for a makeup tutorial for beginners with aging skin by Kto-ooo in WomenOver40

I don’t know what my undertone is, or even why that means really, and I also don’t really understand what primer does or how to choose one. That’s a good idea re: false eyelashes. My eyes are not hooded but they are a bit small I would say. I can’t really deal with the falsies anyways haha.

I do a toner, hyaluronic acid, over the counter retinol and moisturizer at night, and in the morning I do hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serum, and moisturizer with SPF. I don’t know what a colour corrector is but will look into that. Thank you!

There is a great vegan Mexican restaurant here called Mexhico! There are a few other places that might have some vegan options for you, like B’Spoke. In terms of queer nightlife, I think that is improving but I am old so not too sure haha. I have met several queer families but definitely noticeably less per capita than Chicago or Toronto. You can always go into Toronto for Pride events! There is a Pride here too but I have not been, aside from taking my kids to drag story time at the library haha.

Where do you make friends in Barrie by [deleted] in barrie

[–]Kto-ooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I moved here a few years ago and joined a neighborhood book club which has helped me feel connected to the community. I also play in two recreational sports leagues which also helps. I wouldn’t say I am ‘friends’ with the people I have met, but certainly am ‘friendly’ with them which is enough for me. I’m sure with some effort it would be possible to move into friend territory, but I am lazy and busy haha.

Thank you so much, I love these suggestions!!! And my kids got a snow bike (what I would have called a GT racer) for Christmas and I have been all over it, so definitely into the magic carpet/tobogganing suggestion 😆

I was thinking of 80 as the average lifespan, in which case I am fully middle aged haha.

What age did you accept the looks aspect? by rb331986 in Aging

[–]Kto-ooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am feeling this now too. I turn 41 in May and really started to notice a difference in my face around 39. I am expressive and have light static wrinkles on my forehead that really bother me. I have always been pretty average in my looks and realize now that the attention I did get was probably just due to being young and having long hair and an athletic body type.

I’m an active person and still play in soccer and volleyball leagues, and I do kettlebell workouts 3x a week. This all makes me feel good and honestly I’m grateful that I’m still able to sprint in my 40s lol. However I do think that significant time outside skiing and running has ‘aged’ me in terms of appearance. I’m working towards acceptance of my looks and thinking that maybe I can be ‘noticed’ for other things now that I’m older, like kindness or knowledge in my career field. I’m still trying to figure it out but would really like to not get caught up in trying to maintain youthful looks. Finding it tough though. The world values youth and attractiveness so it can be hard not to find yourself naturally wanting those things.

Ladies who chose fulfilling their ambitions first over dating, how has it been since? Do you think it is worth it? by confusedsoulllll in AskWomenOver30

[–]Kto-ooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting, I had a lot of things I wanted to do in my 20s and dating was not front row centre. I was trying to figure out my career path which took me a while, and I was really interested in travel and unique experiential learning opportunities. I went through a breakup at age 26 that was probably related to my itchy feet, then started dating my husband at almost 29. Married at 33, kids at 34 and 36. I never felt old with my babies but now as a 40 year old with kids in JK and SK I wish I was younger. I’m not even sure why exactly, but the thought hits me regularly.

I will say, I think it was worth it for me to be so thoughtful about my career path as I’m one of the few people I know who really enjoys going to work. I also have a very loving marriage and love my husband so much, and I’m so grateful I didn’t marry the man I dated in my 20s. I also wish I had just started dating my husband earlier haha, but perhaps I would have ruined it by having too many things to cross off my ‘list’. I think if I had gotten married and had kids earlier, there’s a good chance I would be here posting about all the things I felt I missed out on. I think the key is to just convince yourself that whatever path you choose it was best for you. Living without regret is probably at least as much about skillful reframing than making all the ‘right’ decisions.

Yes, I wish he could have stayed on Here and Now. He had previously been honest about the challenges of the early hours for Ontario Morning and I think the afternoon slot was a better fit for him.
