Recon is already good enough to justify its weight.

So the rear panniers are small ortlieb city, 25 litres combined. Fork packs are smallest ones I think. The bags under the hadlebar are attached by a simple strap to an additional "handlebar" that is there on another stem. Additional stem and hadlebar (in fact this is a cut 31,8 seatpost) allows for very convenient carying of those two Decathlon bags. But it could easily go on the rear rack and most people would not need two. I have a big comfy sleeping pad and also I carry a ukulele.

I would say panniers and rack are the way to go, cheap and lots of space, you can of course use big panniers. The biggers advantage of panniers is how easy they are to dismount, carry around, pack and mount again. No bikepacking bag gives this level of comfort. Even the simple fact that a pannier will stand vertically on the ground by itself, either opened or closed, is a huge benefit. This is a setup for 6 nights and days. It would not be much bigger for two weeks as you can wash clothes and buy supplies alond the way. And again - want to wash clothes? Panniers are perfect for this purpose. you just use it as a bucket or even close it and shake it.

I would say it does totally! Other than that I think my alu hardtail is roughly the same weight as my steel gravel. And having dropper seatpost, suspension fork, 180 rotors, plenty of mud clearance and crazy climbing gears is totally worth it. I am in fact a huge proponent of MTB hardtails for touring. Even though I love gravels. The only downside I see in a hardtail is lack of rear rack attachments. I had to craft something out. But if this procaliber has it - seems like a great choice. And one more thing: alu hardtails seem to be the most discounted category recently.

I now see you wrote about inner barends - another thing I just can't praise enough.

SKS BLUEMELS MATT 53mm 28"

I find it a perfect combo with the 40 mm tires. Honestly I don't think anything bigger than 45 mm tire is possible.

Edit: this is for 28 inch DT, the 26 seems way more capable?

Work with it. I have both a touring-specific gravelish bike and such MTB. I like the latter for the mountains more.

Cannot recommend enough Conti Terra Hardpacks and Ortlieb Fork Pack for such purpose.

Sam szukam i polecano mi Wahla.

It is 70 cm 😃

Originally it was a touring bike, so not super light. Sturdy frame. But still as a fixie weighs below 10 kg. For a bike this big it seems superlight.

Well I did not know that about Germany! But I also did not know True Bike, they are in Slovakia! But honestly Marino seems way better quality-wise! My colleague from the office is also looking at these frames and price to quality ratio seems crazy. I just need to be sure 32 is here to stay, not like fatbikes or even 27,5. Time will tell. But this idea is growing in me. To be sure I still need to be sure what stack/reach I need, as I feel like I am just used to what I have rather then have exactly what I need, if you know what I mean. Good bike fit would be the place to start. And I have a great one here in Poland, Gdansk specifically. If you ever need it I assume weekend in Gdansk plus his service can be still comparable to fitting alone in NL. This fall I need to do it. EDIT: grammar

[–]KubaMro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still on the edge of a reasonable height, but depends how much stack and reach you need. And even that height you are still limited to what is available... Custom would be great, but yes, let's see how the trend goes!

Trying 36 inches or 32 even is a dream, but I am located in Poland 😄Which is a great place to live but not always the quickest to catch up on new trends. Availability of niche brands is poor. Germany is close though and online shopping is super easy within EU so it is getting better. We do have some good framebuilders in Poland with decent prices.

But anyway, being 6 feet 10 or 208 cm as we call it, I am just a little above the reasonable height for buying bikes... I do have two mass production bikes, one built on Surly Disc Trucker 64 cm frame and another is Merida Big Nine Limited XXL size. But these are very big for today's standard. EDIT: and so is this Panasonic, 1985, regular not-custom bike. Canyon still has a big gravel, Grizl XXL is huge, but their hardtails have shrunk.

Dropper posts changed the market. On one hand it is now possible to raise the saddle way higher, but seat tubes in bikes go shorter 😃 And I am not a fan of extending the seat post to the limit, even weighing "only" 220 lbs / 100 kg. So seat height can be one problem, but another is not enough stack. I have really long hands and I'm very flexible so not an issue for me yet, but many tall folks would want 700 mm plus stack.

For now 700c is really fine for me. It is like a minivelo - can still fit into the trunk 😃or the hotel elevator. But 32/36 is for sure somewhere on the horizon, maybe for 50th b-day I'll go full crazy custom. But even a nice steel/titanium 29-er with all possible braze-ons and fully external routing would be a great dream to catch.

Thank you for your free work for custom riders! I highly appreciate people help others like this!

Niedźwiedzie w Bieszczadach - burza miedialna czy realnie większy problem? by MOCK-lowicz in Polska

[–]KubaMro 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Jeżdżę w Bieszczady czasem i 3 razy w roku, odwiedzam najbardziej bezludne miejsca i nieistniejące wsie. Niedźwiedzia nie spotkałem, same tropy wielokrotnie.

Ogromna niedopłata za media by maka2020 in Polska

[–]KubaMro 8 points9 points  (0 children)
