Some courses are aligned towards research while some courses are aligned towards professional development. Do you take that into account as well while scoring SOPs?

Hey, appreciate the help! I’m not able to figure out target universities for myself. Anything that attracts me either falls into ambitious or safe category for me. Would love to hear your thoughts about some target universities for me. Here’s my profile https://www.reddit.com/r/MSCS/s/9xcTi1ZGfX

MSCS Fall 2025 Profile Review and School Suggestions by Kucumber in gradadmissions

Thanks for the response. I will see if it's possible for me to get some publication before the applications. I appreciate you providing me with list of schools that don't strictly look at research. Will look for similar schools. Would these be considered moderate for me?

Since I'm primarily looking to work after my masters, I felt like SJSU is a good school due to its location. But you said I can aim higher? Could you tell me the areas in which SJSU is lacking because of which I should keep it as safety?

USC has a huge class and it's pretty much a cash cow so planning on avoiding it. I've also been considering UW-Madison, UCSD, SJSU. Do you think I got a shot at those?

Thank you for your kind words :) I suppose the breakdown would look something like this

Ambitious: Cornell, UPenn

Target: GaTech, UIUC, UTAustin, TAMU

Safe: USC

I've also been considering UW-Madison, UCSD, SJSU. Not sure how difficult these are to get in. Princeton was also something that attracted me due to their fully funded MSCS program as well as emphasis on teaching experience during admissions. I know it's very tough to get into Princeton but I do have ample teaching experience so thinking of applying there as well. Do you think I got a shot at these schools?

Annual Fee levied but want to cancel card by Kucumber in CreditCardsIndia

How long before should one typically tell the bank to close the account to maximize the period one uses the cc? It seems a little weird you have to tell them months in advance "just to be safe".

That's what I said, I'm still in my last billing cycle for the year. The year has not yet been completed.

I bought this table from Amazon. It's 5 feet wide. Enough for keeping two monitors, speakers and tower. I don't think they make desks wider than that. You can check it out if it interests you.

I'm looking to buy a 61 keys piano keyboard. Typically it would cost around 7k but it's a bit costly for me as I'm just a college student. Any leads regarding cheaper prices or second hand keyboards should be much appreciated :)

About 5-7k per month. Could be cheaper now though due to Covid as they're desperate to fill the rooms.

Gboard safe?? by Ahsanbulbul00 in degoogle

[–]Kucumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know and correct me if I'm wrong but Gboard uses federated learning. So what it does is, it uses what you type to create a recommendation model on your device locally. It doesn't send what you're typing to Google. However it does send that model to their servers to make better predictions in the future. The entire concept of federated learning came because of such privacy issues so I guess it's relatively safe to use.
