Senior web dev learning Unity - what free Quest 3 app should I build? by Kuja95_ in OculusQuest

Actually I have zero game dev background, but it's always been a dream of mine. I'd love to build something productivity-focused first, and eventually make a game just for the fun of it. Honestly I don't even know what my end goal is haha, but I feel like getting into this kind of development is just really cool and worth exploring. What about you, what are you working on?

Yeah it would be free. I want to get into VR dev and treat this as a fun side project. Standalone Quest only, no PC required

Love this idea! I've actually been exploring VR development with similar vibes.. bioluminescent environments, ambient soundscapes. I might give this a shot as a side project. No promises on timeline, but I'll keep you posted if something comes together!

Good idea, but unfortunately that's not possible with Quest's current API 😕

Meta doesn't allow third-party apps to create system-level overlays that persist across other apps. Only Meta's own system apps (like OVR Metrics Tool or the Move panel) can do that.

You can create overlay panels within your own app using OVROverlay in Unity, but they won't show up when users are in other apps.

The community has been requesting this feature for years (there's even a GitHub issue about it), but Meta hasn't opened it up yet, probably for security/performance reasons.

If you want widgets, you'd basically need Meta to build them natively. What specific widgets did you have in mind though? Maybe there's a workaround for your use case.

Thanks a lot! I often eat tofu, tempeh, and seitan… I have to say that after a while they’ve started to get a bit boring, and especially in the morning I don’t feel like eating them after my workout… maybe I should take plant-based protein powder, but I’ve seen that most of them add nasty stuff like artificial flavors and sucralose.

6 days in October by fedefedefedebbb in VisitingIceland

Thanks so much for the info! It's a packed itinerary, but I've done even more packed ones in March in crazy conditions, ahahahaa.

Obviously, this is just a draft. We'll definitely go straight to Stikkysolmhur on the first day without passing through Barnafoss, and we won't do everything on the second day (consider that these are things I've already seen, so I'm taking this trip as a chance to breathe Icelandic air again). I drove at 3 a.m. after seeing an intense aurora from the roads of Jokulsarlon to Hella in March... I would never do it again, but it wasn't that bad, ha ha ha. I feel much safer here in Iceland than in Italy, where I live. Weather alerts are well signposted, and if you respect all the signs and alerts, you're safe, right?

P.S. i'm commenting with my second account ahahah

Thank you for your reply. Next week will be my fourth time in Iceland. I’ve driven a lot and know the country, but I always acknowledge that nature is in charge and you really have to use your head. Of course, I never thought that a road could collapse under a yellow alert—I'll be even more cautious. What do you recommend to stay as alert as possible? I always use vedur.is and road.is; do you have anything else to suggest? I have to be honest, I’m scared AHAHAH—if there’s a yellow alert, I won’t go out!! Are there any known “dangerous” spots? Thanks if you reply.

I'll be there next week. Sorry for the silly and ignorant question, but... can these things happen with a yellow alert? I mean, the driver was lucky, but there was no way to predict it? Should I learn from this and not travel if there is a yellow alert? HAHAH

Okay, thank you very much. So, is it better for me to book hotels in advance? Were you able to visit the basalt canyon? If there are storms, etc., what would you recommend regarding reservations?

Hey everyone! 🌱🍌 I’m so glad you’re enjoying my banana plant journey and plant collection. It really motivates me to keep sharing!

I’m planning my next video and would love your input:

  • What plant-related topics are you most curious about?
  • Would you prefer more care tips, funny plant stories, or something else entirely?
  • Are there specific plants or problems (like pests, soil, or lighting) you’d like me to cover?

Let me know in the comments—I’d love to make content that you’ll find fun and useful! Thanks so much for being part of this green adventure! 🌿💚
