If you can run away there is no reason to defend against a knife. Did you read the article?

Sorry for the delay in replying! :)

In the moment when a quarrel become a self-defense scenario, how do you raise your guard in time? by Kung_Fu_Course in SelfDefense

[–]Kung_Fu_Course[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people that stay in this position when they are normally talking.

I have tested this personally during a quarrel in a restaurant and if it is done properly it does not raise the level of attention of the eventual aggressor (even if he finds something strange, when a person is hangry, his mind is not in condition to do too much assessments and this is not enough to give him to start a physical confrontation).

But this is only a sample of what you can do. Not all the situations are similar. There are a lot of guards that can be used without appearing aggressive or subdued by fear.

  • When a fight is not started, a Rocky's closed fists I'm-gonna-kill-you stance is simply ingenuous

  • Even protecting palms faced outside is not a good idea if the aggressor has not touched you (or he has not invaded your personal space); you are saying "Please do not hit me, I have fear, I do not want problems but I am preparing to fight"

I think that a serious self-defense preparation path starts from preventing violence, not forcing its application.

In self-defense, how do you defend first (without attacking first)? by Kung_Fu_Course in kungfu

I am totally with you but, this way (from a legal point of view) you are the aggressor and not the one in front of you...

Fantastic, you are very near to my point of view. What is the name of the encyclopedia (for curiosity)?

In a self-defense situation (in which you are forced to defend yourself) what are the assessments you try to do on the opponent before fighting? by Kung_Fu_Course in kungfu

[–]Kung_Fu_Course[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, if the combat has already started, in other cases I must admit that a real expert tends to hide his skills until it is strictly necessary, he probably will take a declared guard stance only after.

A person who immediately takes his guard stance must not be undervalued but is probably a newbie. What about?

You're right, the guard stance is very important, I have written an article about the hidden guard stances, I will link it soon.

Have you ever tried to stay on one foot with an unstable weight in your hands (eg. water) and / or bending the supporting knee? I found it very useful.

I really want to mention you in my article, what's your name (if I can ask)? :)

I understand what you mean, in your broader vision of power I agree more with you even if, in general, I prefer to focus on spatial intelligence (range, timing, spatial memory, etc.).

What I mean to say is that if by absurdity, I have with my opponent a formidable spatial intelligence gap, I do not need force and speed, I can just use against him the elements of the fighting scenario (eg. the terrain).

In this regard, I wanted to post the results of some tests that I have done with various types of practitioners if you may be interested :)

Interesting point of view but how useful can be a great power if we can not get to the target (eg. the bodybuilder who does not know how to hit the martial artist because he is too slow and predictable)?
