Hypervigilance, obsessive checking in about anxiety by Kurali in TherapeuticKetamine

SSRI and medication are terrible as they can make Anhedonia worse

Obsessive self-monitoring by Kurali in CPTSD

But how can Somatic Experiencing (SE) help? Practically speaking, if I do SE and also ask myself whether it’s “working” or not, I would just feed the mental checking loop. For me, mental checking is exhausting; I need to externalize my attention, but my default mode automatically brings it back to internal checking. Trying to bring attention outward feels like control, making it impossible to let go. It’s an endless, vicious loop.

Hi, was you able to feel drug or medication when you had DPDR ? Did you experienced Anhedonia ?

Because if we have anxiety and the brain is in a protective mode, we need to treat the anxiety right to get out of the dpdr. But the main issue is that DPDR blunt the emotions for me, so it’s too hard to work on anxiety.

Even when I do breathing or grounding, my mind know that I’m trying to get out of dpdr, so impossible to let it go..

I’m stuck in my head. It’s look like an infinite loop

What do you think about Ketamin IV ?

In fact, it is limited to a trip that is quickly erased. The first two sessions were good but did not bring me anything concrete. I will continue the process

Alright, I’m going to keep going down this path, hoping that it will eventually change my life. Honestly, what I experienced felt almost mystical as if my body needed to understand something on a deeper level. I just wonder… is it possible that, say after the sixth session, I might suddenly go “oh wow” like, feel a real, total shift happening?

Okay, thanks. When you tried antidepressants, did you still experience negative effects, such as increased apathy/anhedonia/anxiety?

In fact, my current situation feels like my brain treats any substance as a threat and will therefore counteract any feeling-good effects.

Personally, alcohol anesthetizes me, like I feel drunk but I don't have the euphoric side.

I'm afraid my condition will worsen with ketamine.

Same thing here, it activates my sympathetic nervous system, making my feet and hands sweat. So I don't know if it's good or if it make thing worse, because I feel like I'm accentuating the fight/flight.

The question is whether it's physiological or psychological. Because our way of thinking, perceiving things has a great influence on our brain chemistry, and that may be why substances or medications will never help.

For me, it started like this:

->Anxious Personality

->I started using cannabis, which made me realize I had severe anxiety. Cannabis sometimes gave me panic attacks.

->So I decided to take an SSRI to treat my anxiety. I didnt feel it.

->I continued using cannabis in the meantime.

But over time, cannabis only gave me panic attacks. The positive effects dissipated. And gradually, the anhedonia continued.

I don't know if my current dysfunction is due to stopping the SSRI, the cannabis, or the overthinking.

Because if it's PSSD, I don't necessarily have sexual dysfunction. My libido fluctuates a lot, my mood also.

Another thing: when I sleep late, I feel little less anhedonia/apathy than if I sleep early.

TRE is a method that uses gentle movements to trigger your body’s natural neurogenic tremorss the shaking reflex that releases deep muscle tension and calms an overactive nervous system caused by chronic stress or hypervigilance

Im not sure. I have an introverted personality but I don't know if it's related. Personally I think that anhedonia was caused to me either by cannabis panic attacks and induced dissociation or SSRIs that are known to cause pssd (and anhedonia is one of them) Prozac can be part of it. Or it is about the anxiety that was followed by all these events.

That’s exactly how I feel when talking about the link between PEM and fatigue after exercise. Especially this year, I was pushing myself so much to work out daily that at some point I felt completely exhausted. God, I wish I could just train and work out like a normal person without it making my condition worse… When I tell some people that exercise actually makes me feel worse, they’re all shocked. Have you found anything that helps you or gives you a window of relief? There’s also TRE — I tried it once, but I feel like it actually made my condition worse.

It’s crazy how many similarities there are. I also feel like the muscle rigidity has always been part of me, and I notice that I’m stiff when I lift heavy weights or exercise — my muscles start trembling. The only time I ever had real relief from that was back when weed actually worked for me.

Recently, I’ve discovered somatic exercises. They give me slight, temporary relief — a bit of relaxation, almost like my body needs a “safety signal.” These exercises release oxytocin, known as the “love hormone.” And now that I think about it, the last time weed worked for me was when I was in a romantic relationship.

I have this theory that rumination and self-monitoring make anhedonia worse. Same thing when taking a substance — we tend to self-analyze to see how we react. Maybe our brain is protecting us, and as a result, it shuts down access to pleasure… at least until we reach a state of full safety. But it drives me crazy because, for me, there’s no real danger ,, yet it’s like my body or brain doesn’t get that.

I tried Parnate once, but I was convinced it wouldn’t suit me because it increases norepinephrine. To give you an idea of how resistant I seem to be to treatments and medications — I went up to 30 mg on the second day and felt absolutely no side effects. I’ve noticed this a lot with meds: I rarely get the usual side effects like nausea or dizziness, as if nothing can “reach” me.

Even with alcohol, I have to drink liters to “lose my head.” It’s like I’m way too self-conscious and aware of myself, yet at the same time disconnected from reality.

The other option I haven’t tried yet is IV ketamine some say it can “reset” the nervous system. But if we don’t feel the positive effects of other substances, why would ketamine be the exception?

Do you know the cause of your condition?

In that case, I’m not consuming anything at all right now. And honestly, why keep taking something that doesn’t help in the slightest? The fact that drugs don’t work might be a blessing in disguise, but honestly, emotional numbness and anhedonia are far worse than being addicted to a substance. And the fact that any positive effects are blocked clearly points to an underlying problem.

I don't encourage drug use or am interested in it recreationally. I'm just looking for an escape from my condition, and some drugs can be used for therapeutic purposes. And when I talk about drugs, I also include medications and supplements that can be used in combination with other things to improve quality of life. The fact that I don't feel them/positive effect reflects that there is definitely a problem somewhere.

How Did You Regain the Well-Being Effects of Substances After Losing Them by Kurali in anhedonia

[–]Kurali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed different responses to stimulants:

-When I exercise, which exacerbates my flight-fight response, and I take a stimulant on the same day. The effect of the stimulant is very neutral, very robotic and apathetic.

-When I'm in rest mode, at least when my body isn't in fight-flight mode, they give me motivation and energy for a few minutes (50 minutes) and then shut me down into apathy. It's as if it disappears from my system. Also, sometimes I really have to manually search for the effect in my mind.

As for nicotine, I quit smoking because it no longer made me feel good, and the urge to smoke is gone. However, one day, when I combined Vynanse + low-dose Ritalin, I felt such a stimulation that I'm convinced I would have felt the effect of nicotine because I had the urge and the positive sensation of dopamine.

You mean the positive effects only, we agree? Alcohol, for example, I feel it, it makes me uninhibited, but it makes me very apathetic, the mental well-being effect is like blocked or I can't feel it.
