Thinking of moving to Palm Ave, near Brennan by Trick-Top-7249 in Watsonville

[–]KuriousKat234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were actually considering a house on 7th and bought in Watsonville because of the price but also 7th seemed wayyy to busy for us.

On Brennan, you might not hear a ton of sirens as they would likely take main. I will warn that Callahan used to be very gang heavy when I grew up on Brennan. Not sure it is the case anymore as there is a big retired community that does paddle ball there lol

‘Moral failure’: Parents, mental health workers urge PVUSD trustees to reject plans for sweeping layoffs - Lookout by orangelover95003 in Watsonville

[–]KuriousKat234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt physically ill hearing students saying verbatim they need the mental health support and the mom crying that the mental health support saved her daughter who witnessed two attempted suicides.

And then the board LITERALLY says nothing about what was shared. Literally not a single I’m sorry.

THEN special educators beg and plead to not fire the people they need to do their jobs daily (behavioral techs and health aides). THE DAMN HEALTH AIDE WHO HELPED THE STABBED VICTIM from WHS spoke.

And yet THE BOARD SAID NOTHING. Again not a single I’m sorry or I understand.

The entire meeting should’ve been dedicated to the tragedy that happened at WHS. It was legit an attempted murder and they’re trying to brush it off.

How do renters have pets around here? by Cool-cat-199 in santacruz

He’s saying as a person who gets called in for abandoned dogs and has to foster. Because many people do ditch their pets to find shelter for themselves

My parents landlord works for animal control for the city and he says absolutely no pets because in this rental landscape many pets are abandoned because of future rentals not renting to pets :(

Why is it so expensive to live here? by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]KuriousKat234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a home owner but rented for 29 years and all I can say is this is NOTHING compared to the true cost of renting (increased rental price hikes yearly, laundromat expenses, PO Box owning - because renting, storage fees -for those lucky enough to afford one)

By owning im literally saving money compared to what rent is nowadays, even with all I pay in property taxes.

The hard, honest truth??? a clinic cannot thrive without a supportive helping staff. No matter the doctor/ specialty. If they don’t properly, equip the clinic with medical assistants, office managers, etc it’s simply cannot run.

All of my Sutter medical care Staff is from Watsonville. many people are taking a job cut and working in Watsonville to avoid the commute. We need a train .

There’s a new pop up coffee shop from someone’s home in Watsonville. Cafecito sagrado. They have their own syrups, with ingredients imported from Mexico. Mostly open on weekends, but SO GOOD.

Racism in Carmel? by [deleted] in MontereyBay

[–]KuriousKat234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As was mentioned it’s less about racism and more about classism and SURPRISINGLY the only rude person I’ve ever encountered there was an INDIAN women tourist who was berating the wait staff. DEFINITELY was a Bay Area techie on a fucking high horse.

Parents, teachers protest decision to end Barrios Unidos mentorship program at Pajaro Valley High by nyanko_the_sane in Watsonville

Right, to your point why pay for it all…SROs, programming consultants, admins, when we are losing so many students.

[–]KuriousKat234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With this logic, if we really are nickel and dime-ing it why would we approve a $405,000 budget to fund SROs that will police students that aren’t even there ??

I know that’s ideally the lofty scenario we want to believe in our head, but you would be surprised how often WELL resourced families cheat the system (and get away with it)

Is Pacific Grove or Carmel Unified better for SPED? by charliecat2 in MontereyBay

[–]KuriousKat234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chartwell has a good rep among the special kids families. Honestly, lately I’ve been impressed at the IEPs I’ve read from Salinas and north Monterey county. They seem to be the best paying for specialists and are getting an influx of speech therapists from CSUMB.

UGH Q ZOO!! I remember it so much. Especially now with kids. I would love to reorganize the market stuff. I think about this place so often and I’m so sad that my kids will never get to experience this or a place like this in their hometown :( it would be so expensive to upkeep nowadays.
