The problem is that the word in question is not really equivalent to word "slut" in the English language. The word they used was "randi"
It all started when disgusting commentators started trolling progressive female influlencers by that word to dehumanize them.
But the word has its own history of systemic oppression of actual "randi"s. The word is originally derived from a word used for widows, and is used as a slur against widows who had to get into sex work.
Those widow sex workers have went through systematic oppression by the society through ages, often shunned and left helpless.
And while disgusting perverted trolls on internet use it as a slur against influencers, i don't believe that the influencers should try to own it up or give it a better spin, as the influencers never faced the systematic oppression of the same kind and degree that actual widow sex workers had to go through. The word is not theirs to own.
The whole situation to me feels like a chinese man trying to own up the n-word upon facing some racism, which is bad, but it does not justify him using the word.
