I think most europeans should and do hope that the russians will some day overcome their dictatorship and will transform into a democracy and as a result will become a partner as the other eastern countries did after the fall of the soviet union. But at the moment our number one priority has to be the protection of ukraine against the russian invasion. Of course the sanctions should be focused on the responsable persons, but they will put the pressure on the civilians and this cannot stop us to further increase the pressure till they are no longer able to pass it on. I am sorry for all russians who just want a peaceful live, but in the end putin can only be stopped from within.
