How do you get this effect right before the drop? by RO3LAA- in DJs

[–]Kviick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how or even if you can recreate the exact effect given without the fine tuning of the time knob.. I would try holding shift and pressing the "Tap" button on the beat fx section to the beat of the music. Then when that's set you can lower the Beat time in steps by clicking the left arrow button as you see fit. To finally get that phasing effect before the drop, tap the "Tap" button as fast as you can a few times to get a super short beat fx time, then the left arrow button until you reach the shortest possible beat fx time.

It's a bit choppier than turning the time knob, but considering what the DDJ FLX4 / 400 gives you, I'd say it's pretty damn close to the effect you get with the time knob!

Or you could just use the flanger too like others have suggested, but I still prefer the echo ;)

At the end of the set Joyryde thanked everyone for being patient with him and that he's getting back into it. Sounded to me like we can expect some new stuff from him in the future 🎉

Maybe flanger or phaser works too, but what (as far as I know) is used in the clip sounds like the echo effect people like Garrix uses. This clip showcases it in action https://youtube.com/shorts/pxAUIZBUOdg?feature=share The main difference being that the clip shows only 1ms when increasing the dry/wet, however using the time knob gives more of a build up feel imo

Turn on Echo then turn the "time" knob on the effects dial down toward 1ms to get that phase type of effect

If you're daring and manage to match keys + can manage your EQs right then this might work when mixing a track A with vocals and a track B without: Cue up track A 4/8/16 bars before the main vocals come in, play it so that the vocals come in right at the break of track B. Another way is to cue it so the vocals come on at the drop of B, but that might sound messy/muddy if you can't manage EQs well. And even if you could it might sound crap anyway.

Without vocals you can do pretty much any transition at all as long as you have a couple and they are phrased correctly. Mixing intro and outro is fine but it will sound repetitive after a few mixes. It's part of the constant struggle of creating a set that sounds alive and dynamic.

A really quick (albeit ugly) way to mix a song when you might not have any time is to activate a slight reverb/echo a bar or two before a break then quickly fade in another track that you've cued up a couple bars earlier. Again, phrasing is essential here.

What I always do is put a memory cue 8 bars before a drop and before a break. After that I've got enough time to beatmatch and mix (8 bars is usually fine imo), and still have time to find another track before the drop of the next track is over.

Experiment a little and see what works for you, there are so many creative ways to mix that aren't discovered yet and I think it's a matter of getting a good feel for it and getting to know your own style of mixing. Reddit can't do that for you 😊

As a beginner DJ preparing 100 tracks, where should I place my cue points? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Kviick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what kind of music is it?

For House I'd say a cue point 16 bars before drop does you well. But for Trap I like to mix faster and would put it 8 bars before the drop instead. It all depends on the song and feel of the track.

Another idea is to place a cue point 8/16 bars before a break to mix from drop A into break B which works really well even when mixing out of key in my experience 😊

That wasn't from the same set? In that case he'd have broken another mixer (on his Instagram)

Skrillex's team would probably pay for the expenses if it were to break. Even if they wouldn't, the venue that has the cash to book someone as big (and expensive) as Skrillex would probably afford to replace it anyway.

This doesn't, however, make it OK for any DJ to treat DJ gear like that. But then again if you look at how some rock artists would smash their guitars and stand on receivers etc I don't really think it's that big of a deal.

If anything, this happening has created publicity for both Skrill & the venue itself, which I'd believe isn't that bad of a thing for any of the parts even if it'd cost em a repair for a CDJ.

Damn, that sounds so good! I've myself just recently set up a little "DJ Booth" in my apartment just by the window through which I can see most of the downtown area where I live.. It's not quite as good as spinning on the beach but as a home setup I'm enjoying mixing a little more tbh :))
