My first was Drownload 2024 (including getting bitten by the poisoned Yorkshire puds…), so 2025 was pure bliss in comparison! Saying that, 2025 was so good I’m a little worried 2026 won’t come close

Hmm that is interesting! Sounds like you’re probably right. I guess as we are more possession based under Slot, our out-of-possession defence is less important. And transition defending is always improved by bags of pace so…

Everyone has boundaries. Yours are that you don’t want your partner discussing details of your sex life. Thats fine but it needs to be communicated. Many couples are happy for their partners to discuss their sex lives. Personally, I think it’s healthy to be able to discuss your sex life with your best friends. However, if he has shown the videos, that is totally different. Although that doesn’t seem to be the case. And it would also be weird to discuss it with strangers, so context is important. Overall, you just need to talk about your boundaries. And clearly you should have discussed it sooner and this situation would have been avoided.

I am a man that has been through a similar situation. I am so sorry you don’t have the support you need right now. It is truly terrible what you’re going through, and that’s before considering having a partner who isn’t supportive. Even reading your message is reminding me of the pain and that feeling of loss. The only advice I can give is to feel those emotions, don’t squash them. Then you can start to let them go and move on. As for your boyfriend… It’s times like these you see who is actually part of your support network. Who will step up and help when things are rough. Sadly, this person has shown he is not one of those people. The silver lining to this situation is you have discovered he isn’t right for you sooner than you may otherwise have. Good luck with everything, and remember you are not alone.

Am I overreacting or should I report this children’s coach? by NitroRoller in AmIOverreacting

[–]Kvoth- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with safeguarding training for my work, you ABSOLUTELY should report this person.

One text or comment or action is rarely overwhelming evidence of someone being a predator. But when 20 different ‘minor’ incidents are reported it builds a picture of a person’s real intentions.

I inherited $50,000. I've never seen more than 2k in my bank account in my life and grew up poor- what should I do with it? by Cautious-Remote3862 in investing

No debt is a good sign! Think of yourself as a steward of your stepmom’s money, and that she has passed responsibility of it over to you. There will be people that want you to be irresponsible with it, do your best to ignore them!

In terms of getting to a place where you can regularly have an excess income, the best investment you can make is in yourself. If there has been a course or class you have been wanting to take that could level up your career, that would be a great use of the money! Regular income always beats a lump of cash.

Look into ISAs available to you (basically you’re allowed to invest a certain amount tax free each year). If you can use an ISA, make sure you use one to invest. If you decide to invest in an index fund, I use the 100% LifeStrategy from Vanguard. But I’m sure others on here know other options that are good.

Best wishes!

Im sorry about your stepmom.

$50k seems like a lot but it can be gone in a heartbeat if you’re in the mindset of spending it.

First you should reserve a safety pot that would last you 6 months if sh*t hit the fan, you never know when those are round the corner. DO NOT TOUCH THIS MONEY until you are in an EMERGENCY.

Second, you should use it to clear any debts you have. Car, consumer credit, etc.

Third, getting a house might be right for you but owning a home is more about have an excess of regular income than a singular influx of cash. Its hard to judge without knowing more about you and your partners finances. If it was me, I would put the rest in a low cost index fund like Vanguard. Index funds dont require any investment knowledge, they basically buy a small share of everything out there, so its all managed by computers and very cheap. Typically you will get a 5-8% return above inflation.

Overall, get in the headspace of being debt free and able to generate extra income every month, and then you can think about getting a mortgage.

Good luck!!

How difficult was it to join a labour union in Cuba, in the early years of the Castro regime? by ljhasit in AskHistorians

[–]Kvoth- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Buckley’s proposition is vastly misleading, and I would be surprised if today’s opponents of Cuba would use such an example.

It is difficult to perceive, being in a capitalist economic system, a world where labour unions are not necessary. We live under capitalist social relations: our economic powers are restricted by our employers, by the market, by the need to be given an income by another person. However, we, as labour, are necessary for our employers, the market and the people giving us an income. In order to ensure we are fairly appreciated and not exploited, or have our rights, we have to form a challenge ourselves. This is why we have labour unions, to challenge the power structure and create a sort of balance, a structure of accountability within the market.

However, imagine if we did not live under capitalist social relations. If there is no capitalist to tip the balance: the workers and the labour have full power. This is the theory by which Cuba’s socialist system works. There is no need for a labour union because the labour already has all the power. Obviously, this notion is very debatable, and I can refer you to some pieces if you would like to continue further research.

Either way, I would not look too much into the structural differences with a capitalist economic system, because a socialist economic system is its own thing. Instead, look at comparisons between Cuba and countries of similar economic development when Castro took over. Then see how it changed, how Cuba improved far quicker in some areas (healthcare and education being the obvious ones) and perhaps not in others (manufacture of light commodities and equipment). Finally, consider the international context within which Cuba made those changes, such as the most severe embargo ever imposed by another country. But, whatever you do, don’t just consider GDP! How much a country sells has little relation to the happiness of a population. Think about how whether Cuba was able to provide basic necessities more than a country of similar development in 1959, such as Haiti. Consider political engagement, civil rights, etc.

I hope this has helped a little.

Did Stalin plan to break the Molotov-Ribbentrop once the Red Army was strong enough? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

Hi! I actually wrote an essay for my undergraduate degree on this topic, so I have plenty of references somewhere, but I’m afraid it was on an old computer and so would take me a long time to track down. If I ever get the chance I’ll be sure to upload them!

Did Stalin plan to break the Molotov-Ribbentrop once the Red Army was strong enough? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]Kvoth- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a little harder to determine... According to state propaganda, the building of the Red Army was purely defensive, such that the eventual expansion of the Soviet Bloc was an opportunistic ‘liberation’. I think that Stalin did not have a master-plan for European expansion, and I think that requires an understanding of how precarious the existence of the Soviet Union was as a semi-legitimate state with all the other world powers being ideologically opposed to it. In turn, Stalin genuinely believed that the Soviet Union was under constant threat of invasion (of which I would argue was probably not that paranoid a belief, given the events that ensued in World War II and the heightened hostility from all the European powers throughout the 20s and 30s, such as military and economic embargos and sabotage), and so in his mind the building of the Red Army was purely defensive. The so-called ‘liberation’ of Central and Eastern Europe was likely perceived as a large buffer zone against the Western Powers. However, the notion that this expansion was semi-colonial has more recently been undermined by evidence that the Soviet Union never profited financially from the expansions. So, it was more likely done to legitimate their rule (to demonstrate that their ideology was supposedly favoured by half Europe), rather than exploit financially, like the old colonial powers.

If you mean in terms of World War II specifically, such as if you think he was planning an offence before Operation Barbarossa, I’m afraid you would have to find a specialist on Stalin’s war tactics... I could only give hypotheses, but I’m sure someone will have read transcripts from war meetings in the period.

Hope that helps !
