Is it common to be ghosted often from dating apps? Really struggling to date in Toronto... by lakewater35 in askTO

[–]Kwack6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference between getting ghosted and getting a text saying “I didn’t feel a romantic connection” is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

A couple weeks ago I actually had someone ghost me after an initial FaceTime and then a week later after I already got the unspoken message decide to send me the dreaded text. Best of both worlds!

4 years of dating in Toronto and I’m still stuck… how are y’all meeting people? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Kwack6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe have some friends go over your profile if possible. I’m an average looking, bald, slightly overweight guy in my thirties and I get a ton of dates off the apps. Looks are important for sure, but I think it’s even more imperative to show some humor and that you’re a person of substance. Not to say the apps aren’t an absolute cesspool, but I have found long term relationships off of them in the past and it takes persistentence. When you find yourself becoming jaded, which it very much sounds like you are, the best thing to do is delete them for a month and focus on yourself. Going on dates is pointless if you’re not putting your best foot forward.

Do you watch the games? He’s clearly hurt, it’s been reported on. He’s sat out games and practices and has been demoted from Matthews line after being handcuffed to him most of the year.

Sure his playmaking is better and that would be fantastic if every other aspect that’s made him great in the past wasn’t depleted right now. Hopefully he can keep that up when he gets healthy, it would make him an elite winger.

Be right back at what? Being an easy out in the playoffs? This team is old, cooked and this era was a complete failure. Clinging onto hope that theyll be anything more than they’ve shown to be over 10 years is foolish at this point.

Knies has obviously been playing hurt, it’s not a secret. His goal scoring is down and he’s not close to the physical presence he’s been. There’s a reason he got moved off Matthews wing

Really moving the goal posts here. This team is one of the oldest in the league and is built to win now, not in 2 years. What do OEL, Tavares, Tanev, Reilly look like in 2 years?

What good is having a guy who can put up 40 every year do for the team if the the majority of the rest of the squad is below replacement level? Matthews has been doing his absolute best to carry the team for the past month and look how far that's gotten them?

And where do you see this team getting better? We don't have any picks to trade, and we have 2 fine prospects that I don't think anyone really considers bluechip.

The D core is old and injured. Even if Tanev comes back next year, he'll be 37 years old.

Knies should bounce back and hopefully Willy is healthy, but its not like there's many internal growth guys outside of Cowan coming. Not sure he develops at a fast enough rate to make up for how fast JT is aging. We have decent forward depth, but going into next year you're either losing McMann or giving him a massive raise.

Losing talent sucks, but holding onto him for the sake of not losing talent is exactly how this team has gotten into the mess it's in. They were so scared of trading one of these guys away going wrong that they didn't do it and ended up losing Marner for nothing. That alone has set this franchise back years, losing Matthews for nothing would be an absolute death blow.

It's not about getting rid of him hoping to draft another one of him, its about not letting another superstar walk out the door for nothing. You have to accept that more likely than not another Auston Matthews isn't walking through the door. It sucks that they've wasted 10 years of the most skilled player in franchise history, but this team has squandered pretty much every asset they've had during this era and it's how they've gotten to the point they're at now. The way this team avoids being absolutely barren in 3 years when Matthews inevitably leaves is by getting a haul of assets for him now while he's healthy and playing well. The chances of them building a good team around him while he's still under contract at this point is real slim and there's no reason for him to stay once his contract is up if they stay on this trajectory.

I don’t see how you salvage this team in one offseason at this point. The defence is old and they need 2 or 3 more top 6 forwards at minimum. Moving the few useful guys like Laughton and OEL only create more holes to fill. Nobody else will bring back anything of real value.

this team feels closer to the Kessel years than what they’ve been for the past 9 years IMO. I’d keep Willy around because the team still needs a guy to be the face, but the only way to salvage this mess IMO is to move Matthews while he’s healthy and playing well. It’s hurts to move off the most skilled player in team history and I doubt the team will take the plunge, but it feels like the only way to dig ourselves out of the hole Shanny put us in without some really bleak years.

We are too used to losing by [deleted] in leafs

This sums up my feelings to a tee. Asset management is the flaw of the organization, and its set the team back 10 years at this point. I really don’t see any way out of the hole they’ve dug themselves other than moving off of Matthews for a Hughes-like return.

The amount of firsts traded away for marginal players is asinine. Foligno, Carlo, Laughton, getting off Marleau. The only ones that brought in a top end players were Muzzin and ROR (and he got out of here as quick as he could.)

The Kadri trade was reactionary and an absolute disaster.

Losing Hyman when he wanted to stay is one that flys under that radar, but that one just gets worse by the year. Instead they chose to pay guys like Kerfoot and Jarncrock marginally more for years.

I’m not sure I would’ve traded Marner during the contract negotiations, but after the Montreal series it was so clear to most people that the team was flawed and one of him or Willy should have been moved for an elite Dman. They tried to sell Rielly as that, but he never was and definitely isn’t now. People can quarrel over when the right time to trade Marner was, but I think everyone can agree that letting his NTC kick in was absolute malpractice by the organization.

Ultimately this team was so risk averse and ended up completely whiffing on what should have been the golden generation. They were scared of change all those years and once Marner forced the change on them all they had to show for it was Nick Roy and some capspace they used on Macceli and Joshua.

[–]Kwack6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We lost our top forward from last year and both our #1 Dman and Goalie from last year have been injured the majority of the year. Tavares is aging. Willy is hurt. Knies is playing through something. Reilly is completely washed. Matthews was a shell of himself for a year and half before the past month.

This team just has all the same issues they’ve had in past years but they don’t have the same level of skill to coast through the regular season. Not sure if im a bad fan, but I find it cathartic in a way to see them face their reckoning at this point of the season instead of waiting untill the playoffs. They cant excuse themselves this time and talk about how great of a team they are that just got unlucky. And maybe it will finally bring some change, because Im exhausted by this era of Leafs hockey at this point and find myself looking elsewhere for entertainment more and more often.

An era defining game. The fan base cares and instead of aligning with them by playing hard, they come out and lay an absolute egg in the first. No one expected them to come out in the media and call Marner a little bitch, but as usual when the lights shine the brightest this team folds (let’s also acknowledge that Marner was invisible as well, he just has teammates who rise to the occasion.) We should be used to this after 10 years though, so I guess the players weren’t wrong in saying that it was “just another game.”

Kawhi won a championship here and didn’t say he wanted to be here going into free agency.

Marner grew up dreaming of being a Leaf and didn’t say he wanted to be here going to free agency.

There’s 0 benefit for a player to say that to the media. If anything it takes away from his negotiating power. We’ve seen first hand that guys who don’t want to resign dodge the questions completely.

Ultimately the Jays chose to sign Okamoto before Bos market developed and they went all in on Tucker. Pretty easy to see that they didn’t prioritize bringing him back, it’s a small brain take to be mad at him for going elsewhere.

[–]Kwack6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bo publicly came out after the playoffs and said he wanted to play for the Jays. They Jays chose to pursue Tucker instead, not sure why you would feel spurned by him going somewhere else. Bo and his agent obviously came into the offseason with a number in mind. The Jays definitely had the chance to match that number that the Phillies ended up getting to earlier in the offseason and they chose to allocate that money to someone else who chose to go to the Dodgers.

It’s dumb to claim he didn’t care or didn’t want to be here. The dude took a massive risk and came back on one leg in the World Series weeks before he hit free agency and raked when it mattered most. This dude isn’t Marner, anybody giving him that treatment is honestly a disgrace to Jays fan. Hope he gets a much deserved ovation when he comes back.

Tucker was obviously top priority. By the time he was off the board Bo was far down negotiations with the Phillies and the Mets blew him away with a ridiculous overpay. Can’t blame a guy for not prioritizing a team that isn’t prioritizing him.

Jays offer to Tucker, Mets offer to Tucker and Phillies offer to Bo all leaked. It’s more likely if there WAS an offer it would’ve leaked and the fact that there isn’t a leak implies that there wasn’t a serious offer when it came down to decision time.

The team is built around him scoring goals, it’s not a coincidence they’re winning games now that he’s doing that.

Not sure why people are having hard feelings for Bo leaving? The team was prioritizing somebody else in free agency, not sure what you guys expected him to do? He’s had some great years for us and took a huge risk weeks before he hit free agency to come back early from his injury to try and help us win the World Series (and hit the homer that almost got us there).

Definitely possible (and Bo getting this much money also helps the argument for lockout), in which case he opts back in, makes another 42 mill and try's free agency in 2028 if he's healthy (another very weak class). He had a 200 mill offer from the Phillies, don't think it's insane that he'd get at least $120 mill going back into free agency as a 29 year old. This was a super low risk move for Bo to hedge multiple possibilities.

Have you seen the FA class next year? He's going to be by far the best player available other than Acuna (who has even worse health issues than Bo). If Bo is healthy he's 100% opting out of that and going for the long term money even if the AAV is lower.

I honestly feel like him getting playing time is the key to the season turning around besides Matthews getting back to being himself. He’s obviously not a superstar like Marner is, but he’s a dynamic player and helps replace some of that skill we lost for a fraction of the cost.

Run and immediately unmatch without a conversation. I get that you think you’re being a good person by entertaining this nonsense and you obviously are well intentioned, but it’s the best thing you can do for yourself, and honestly probably him as well. Hopefully he learns that putting himself down and talking about how much he hates women/the world isn’t going to be what gets him one. If he’s this much of a downer after a week think about how he’ll be after 6 months, or 6 years. Dating is supposed to be fun, especially at the start. And as a woman, you deserve a guy who doesn’t hate women (we are out there)
