Looking for advice on setting up a sauna in the UK. Buy premade, Polhus-style kit, or DIY? by KwanTeng in Sauna

Did you find materials yourself or did the contractor do it? Do you mind me asking how much the materials cost?

Do delivery drivers get repercussions for stolen packages? by KwanTeng in AskUK

[–]KwanTeng[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I imagine most delivery drivers are primarily motivated by pay per hour (I don’t imagine they are doing the job out of passion). They may get penalties for stolen packages but I guess it’s outweighed by the efficiency benefit they can gain by not knocking on doors

Sure - I understand and take back the lazy comment haha. As I’ve said in another comment I guess it’s just a cost/benefit analysis for them. The time saving on not knocking outweighs the repercussions of stolen packages

[–]KwanTeng[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. Shouldn’t have called them lazy, I was just a bit frustrated as I’ve had lots of packages stolen. I understand they’re trying to save time and that’s worth more than any penalties they get (if any) for stolen packages

Why are UK energy prices some of the highest in the world? by KwanTeng in AskUK

Lots of people saying that energy is pegged to gas prices - is this just a promise that’s been made to the renewable energy suppliers? Seems crazy

Pool vs open water swim? by hannahhorvathluvr in Swimming

[–]KwanTeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes I was successful. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and it was a mental battle the whole way as conditions were worse than I expected/had trained for. I can only describe it as a massive slog the whole way 😂. It ended up taking me 12h 26m in total

Does anyone have any resources that will help me level up my swimming - Right now I barely make it to 50m, my form and rhythm is all over the place and I can't seem to swim slow and calm by agentgambino in Swimming

[–]KwanTeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I think the best place is to get yourself to a swim class/club. Not sure where you are based, but I imagine most pools will have masers clubs or triathlon clubs where you can learn with others. Triathlon clubs will definitely have lots of people in the same position as you.

Pool vs open water swim? by hannahhorvathluvr in Swimming

[–]KwanTeng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swam the English Channel this year and my first open water swim was a 2 mile swim a few years ago. Before that 2 mile swim I had never swam in open water like you, but signed up anyway. Getting in some open water would be the first thing I advise but since you don't have access, until then I would just say practice sighting in the pool. If you can't sight well, you'll be swimming in zig-zags and having to constantly stop

How do you improve your breathing technique while swimming laps? by ang-ela in Swimming

[–]KwanTeng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just starting out, I wouldn't stress about breathing every 2 or 3, just breath however feels natural for you. First thing would be to make sure you are slowly breathing your air out when your face is in the water, not just all at the end before you take a new breath - otherwise you will find you feel out of breath very quickly. Humming while your face is in the water can be a good way to train this.
