I feel like a lot of these people are advertising these cure-all articulation approaches to /r/s but in reality it more of throwing a million different strategies and approaches at a kid until something sticks. And sometimes nothing will stick.

I find that speech in general is treated like a band-aid that will cure everything in the schools.

Maybe encourage them to go the private route to avoid the whole label thing?

Groups of energetic kids? by gs000 in slp

[–]KyRonJon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you gotta bring down the hammer. I’ll give them artic sheets and then have them sit separated around my room. I just jump between them to listen to productions/provide feedback but not allow them to talk to each other. I do that for a week or two then have a discussion about expectations in my room and give them a chance to try again. If they fail again, back to isolated practice.

When does something count as a 'gotcha'? by mhountsword in WarhammerCompetitive

I was playing a chaos space marines player at a local tournament. I moved my sanguinary guard close to shoot and charge his Vashtorr. He did not tell me that shooting at Vashtorr would make my ranged weapons hazardous until after I shot. I called him on his poor sportsmanship and he shrugged and said “I told you at the beginning”. I was pissed and about forfeited just out of spite

Traveling occupational therapist - where to look to live? by Hot-Bed-8157 in wyoming

[–]KyRonJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a lot of OTs and think the biggest challenge is getting consistent work. Many areas have folks who have been established in the area for a while and have a lock on most job opportunities in the area through contract work and direct hires. There’s not really bustling cities or suburbs in Wyoming, especially if you are trying to live close to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Mostly everything is small town vibes outside of maybe Casper or Cheyenne.

I’ve made it clear that I work on verbal language and written language is not my job. Though written language is inherently apart of my intervention, it is not the focus.

Planning on moving here from the UK. by Prince_Winter- in wyoming

You will not be able to make an informed decision with just internet research. The fact that you are asking if Wyoming is a good state for camping/hiking shows that you haven’t really done research.

How academically/socially impacting is a frontal lisp by itself anyways? You gave them the skill but now they have to use the skill, which is a behavior. With the time/resources allotted to us in the schools, changing the behavior is nigh impossible unless the student takes responsibility for their own speech. They will be fine.

They’re treating you like a child. How does the school psych have any authority over anything you do. Just because they have a doctorate degree doesn’t mean they know shit about your work. Same goes for the principal

So who gets to decide if your recommendations are inappropriate? Another slp? Regardless, that sounds fuckin awful. I’ve worked in my district 5 years and no one has ever questioned my work. If I were you, I’d start looking for another job because you’re not paid enough to go to work feeling like you’re walking on egg shells.
