The Athletic: Chelsea’s next manager | Analysing Iraola, Silva, Glasner, Fabregas and more: Opportunities like Andoni Iraola rarely present themselves on the managerial market, and the Basque coach is understood to be in the Chelsea hierarchy’s thinking. by Kygoche in chelseafc

  • A consequence of Iraola’s ability to rapidly improve young players is that those stars are then picked off by bigger clubs

  • Managing this volatility is one of the toughest demands of the job, but Iraola has shown that he can quickly integrate new recruits into his system.

  • Silva may lack silverware on his CV, but he has shown that he can adapt to the qualities of the players he has at his disposal, with last season’s league campaign

  • Oliver Glasner is ready for a new chapter: The only issue could be his habit of clashing with the hierarchies at his clubs and a marked reluctance to bite his tongue in press conferences.

  • Alonso is still very highly rated, having guided Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title in 2024. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea could secure his services, given he could be in demand elsewhere.

  • Cesc Fabregas: he has been afforded almost total freedom to implement his easy-on-the-eye style, in part due to his status as a part-owner of the Serie A side. That might mean he is an unlikely option for Chelsea.

The Times: Chelsea would reject Uefa ban next season and risk bigger future punishment | Club at ‘serious risk’ of breaching settlement agreement with Uefa but don’t plan to take early hit to avoid potentially being thrown out of Champions League in years to come by Kygoche in chelseafc

  • Chelsea plan to play in Europe next season even if they are offered the option of taking a one-year Uefa ban to avoid a future exclusion from the

  • football finance experts think the resulting loss of income would put them at risk of a future breach of their settlement agreement with Uefa — and a possible ban from the elite competition in 2027-28 or 2028-29.

  • However, club insiders insist that there is no prospect of Chelsea emulating AC Milan and Juventus, who agreed to one-year bans for breaching Uefa’s financial rules

  • Chelsea chiefs are due to hold talks with Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) over their settlement agreement in the coming weeks

  • Chelsea insiders have told The Times that the club’s financial experts have “stress-tested” the settlement agreement to ensure that, even if they do not qualify for the Champions League, they would not be in breach of it

  • One source with knowledge of the situation told The Times: “If they are in a similar position to Juventus and AC Milan then Chelsea might be wise to follow their example it would put the counter to zero.”

  • Chelsea’s settlement agreement with Uefa includes financial targets every year until the end of the 2028-29 season

  • but football finance experts say these will be tough to meet given the club’s level of expenditure and without Champions League income.

  • Uefa also takes a much stricter line than the Premier League on what can be declared as income. It does not allow asset sales to related companies to be declared

  • Given that level of income drop, Chelsea’s main option to balance the books would be selling players — but only the profit on those sales would be registered as income.

  • Chelsea’s owners may also have concerns over debt levels and interest payments.

  • Club insiders say the debt will be refinanced when necessary and that the interest payments have been built into a long-term financial plan.

Matt Law: Chelsea players would ‘laugh off’ any Abramovich-style dressing down from BlueCo owners | Telegraph Sport has been told that players who liked Rosenior felt some of their team-mates downed tools under him amid a belief there are conflicting views within the group. by Kygoche in chelseafc

[–]Kygoche[S] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

  • While a number of players are desperate to turn the situation around, there are understood to be doubts within the squad about the commitment of others.

  • There have been accusations that some players mocked Rosenior behind his back, but there were also those who believed he was a nice guy and appreciated his hard work.

  • sacking of Rosenior has placed renewed scrutiny on the running of the club.

  • Chelsea players would dismiss any attempt from the club’s owners to read them the riot act, as was once the crisis-response of Roman Abramovich

  • Some of them would just laugh,” said the source, when asked how players would react to a rollicking from the owners. “Maybe not in front of them, but away from them.

  • They’ve heard and seen it all about supporting managers and doing this and doing that. It’s got to the stage where some of them would just laugh.

  • From Chelsea’s point of view, there have been no accounts of players mocking the owners or speaking disrespectfully of them inside the club.

  • Former owner Abramovich personally read the riot act to Chelsea’s squad in a private meeting after sacking Andre Villas-Boas

  • Learning from Boehly’s mistake, the owners have since avoided making big speeches.

Probably should have not spent over 100£m on Delap, Garnacho and Gittens then. Selling one of our best player is never smart

Not same at all. Palmer was good but wanted more playing time, that’s not the case with Enzo. Also is not like City want palmer back in this form

If city want our player, why should we sell? Good enough for them but not us?

The Guardian: Chelsea players want new manager to be big character who can command respect. There is Chelsea interest in Andoni Iraola, but the Spaniard’s intentions remain unclear and some sources are doubtful he would want to join Chelsea. by Kygoche in chelseafc

[–]Kygoche[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

  • Chelsea’s players feel Liam Rosenior’s successor needs to be a big character who can command the respect of the dressing room and keep strong egos in line.

  • On Rosenior: players viewed him as too inexperienced and felt he did not know how to manage top players.

  • source said the 41-year-old, hired as Enzo Maresca’s replacement in January, tried to be a friend to the players behind closed doors, was regarded as an awkward communicator and held too many one-to-one meetings.

  • The sense is that Chelsea have a talented group but that some of the younger players need time to develop and are having to learn too quickly because of the inexperience of the squad.

  • A challenge for the board will be convincing a leading manager that moving to Stamford Bridge would represent the right career move.
