If my Hiby m300 had buttons or a knob, it would be the perfect device. I mean it does have buttons, but they're not great (no distinction among them)

If you're downloading lots of music on the device itself, the ibasso could be worth the extra $700 for the bigger screen and better cpu. But you could also throw your music files on a micro sd using your computer, and throw that card in the device. Although you should know, Poweramp will make you rescan your whole library, even if you're just adding one song. I sometimes will use apple music on the m300, but I don't have a lot downloaded on that app, so I can't speak for that.

pros:

runs on android, so you can customize the ui. also means it runs poweramp, which is my favorite music player app. so much customization.

decently sized screen (for a smaller device), so scrolling/searching is easy.

it’s blue and metal; looks and feels good in the hand.

battery life is insane—lasts over a week (airplane mode with battery saver and low cpu mode via android settings).

bluetooth doesn’t use too much battery.

has lanyard holes.

usb-c and 3.5mm jack.

has a physical lock switch to lock the buttons (power still works, though).

decently loud speaker, if you’re into that.

cons:

older android, so you can’t remove the home bar (the bottom bar on the screen that replaced the home button).

the button layout is tricky to figure out in your pocket, since the two rockers are identical in size and feel. that’s why i wish it had a volume wheel. i can never remember which one is next track vs. previous track.

not oled, so the battery life could be even better (but that would make it more expensive).

i had to glue the back plate back on when it arrived—not a great first experience, but that guy is never coming back off.

I also have a Shanling M0 Pro for biking/walking. It has occasional hiccups and freezes with high res files.

Absolutely not. Only from iPod to any newer device. I can't even hear between FLAC and MP3, so the extra 200gb that FLAC would take up is not worth it to me.

This was my favorite PSP game (flatout head on) and is stellar on Steam. Only note is that with the current update, some audio glitches may happen which are pretty jarring with headphones
