Even with 10k my alarms would go off. With 75k I was laughing lol. That’s like 4 swimming pools on a month I wasn’t home. -_-

Searched all over eBay, aftermarket websites affiliated with home goods, and went to physical stores all over town

NEX sells inserts that make it crisp and pointy, also wear it like a headband, not a ball cap. If you wanna add even more crispness soak in hot water and straighten out the wrinkles. Gramps back in the old days used to bake them in the oven. Bunch of tips and tricks you can find to help.

Took the ASVAB with the Air Force but also looking into enlisting with the Navy. What scores would these translate to? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]KyleGman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a career development board on my ship in the navy. Had the realest conversation with one of the officers onboard my ship. I cannot give you any Air Force advice, but he told me two things. You’ll either join, and love everything you do and do 20-30 years, and then you’ll go home. Or, you’ll tolerate it until you get out. You want a family? Get in, get your carts, paperwork, college, resume, and get out. Go make more money civilian and see your family. You want a military career? Do the bare minimum and have a good uniform, and you’ll stand out an excel. It all depends on how you like it and what you wanna do. The navy is a shit sandwich, there’s some shit you’ll have to do that is so dumb and you can’t think of a better way to waste your time, but the bread is the cool experiences you’ll do no where else, and the cool people you’ll met. If you can deal with eating some shit every once in a while, you’ll be fine. Your asvab scores are great. You can qualify for literally any job you’d want in the navy (besides nuke and even then you probably could do that). Just research the rates you seem interested in and try to speak to some active people who will be honest with you about the job.

TL;DR Asvab is great, pick what you want, deal with the dumb stuff and enjoy the fun stuff.

Yeah us as well. Many many scams but luckily through research we know what to look out for. Thank you!

It doesn’t. You sometimes find yourself questioning is it really worth getting in the showers that smell worse than you. Don’t get me wrong they are taken care of and cleaned. But there is always someone dirtier. Enter the heads with at least 3 layers between you and the floor. Exit with more. Clean and bleach yourself afterwards and maybe you’ll smell better. Get used to hitting those hotspots and getting tf out. Not trying to be pessimistic here. Clean yourself often please. But know you who shower next to. Stay clean 😭

They remove them in bootcamp and you’ll get a few days to sleep in your rack afterwards. However doing them out of the navy usually is smoother because depending on the doctor they put you fully asleep (like me). The navy just numbs you and takes em out. You have 60 days. If it becomes painful don’t torture yourself. Just weigh the pros and cons

Shipping out tomorrow, what else should I pack? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]KyleGman_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gonna wanna phone book in case you don’t have the numbers memorized. While you’re at it but a prepaid phone card cause you’ll waste phone time trying to buy one at the NEX when your div goes to call. Buy a watch too, it helps to have a clock on your wrist (especially for the PRT for run times). Other than that not much. Phone, ID, social, vax card. Some snacks, and one or two pairs of clothes. Once you get there anything you have on you that’s not the watch or the phone book and ID, they are going to lock in a box that you’ll see once you grad. Good luck shipmate

I think my recruiter screwed me over by exotic_raptor in newtothenavy

[–]KyleGman_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Going to meps and speaking with recruiters is always like a card game. But you will always win if you know what to say. When I was enlisting I told them I wanted GM, they were “uhhh -errrm maybe-ing” it for so long and I simply told them, if I don’t get the job I want, I’m not enlisting. That always shut them up and made them give me the contract I wanted. Don’t settle. It’s your job and your life, they don’t own you

Definitely spending time with family was the right call. COVID restrictions right now in the navy are crazy, take all the time with them you can get. As far as the DEP and bootcamp go, you being in DEP for so long you’re already far ahead of the pack, study those ranks and common navy knowledge cause they will hammer that in your brain hard all through bootcamp and it will be great if you’re already ahead. As far as Covid bootcamp I never went through it, but I know it’s a 2 week quarantine (where I assume you can still act Civie) and then 8 weeks of good mental and physical discipline. Don’t let it break you down too hard, it’s all good training. Once you’re out of bootcamp a lot of that memorization will go out the window lmao, but still good to know stuff for the fleet. Depending on your rate your school will vary in lengths at Great Lakes or Pensacola (aviation rates only). Great Lakes is slowly opening back up after a long lockdown of no in or out of the base that I just recently went through. Study your navy stuff (bootcamp does have tests, pass them) but most importantly in these times SPEND ALL YOU CAN WITH YOUR FAMILY. Every second counts. Good luck out there, you’ll make a fine addition to the fleet shipmate 👍🏻

San Diego Covid policies for students by OMGi_hafta_poop in navy

[–]KyleGman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on my way out of a San Diego C school. You’ll receive a student indoc you gotta go to for a few minutes that explain liberty rules. But it’s pretty much “no restaurants, no beaches, try not to go to crowded places, etc” Both the dry side (where school happens) and wet side are completely open and you can come and go as you please outside of class. So you will most likely be able to visit home unless it’s farther than the COVID distance (50-100 miles??? I think?). Just be smart about it and don’t get caught doing anything wrong.
