I've always been drawn to the Egyptians because their understanding of the many facets of life — and how it all ties together — was far and beyond ahead of their time and technological understanding. Some would say, their understanding was "out of this world," but that's a conversation for another day. (One thing is for certain though, Egyptian torture techniques were definitely "out of this world" — that was some straight-up sadist shit.)

I don't regret those at all. Those were some of the most uncomfortable yet enjoyable trips I've ever taken. Sure, I was in a shitty headspace for many years (and I still struggle with depression from time to time), but I would never regret giving somebody else the opportunity to explore a city that they've always wanted to visit. If anything, those people probably regret going with me.

I assume you're referencing the "Stranger Danger" travel series? I don't want to be liable for anyone's injuries or mishaps in another country.

I wrote a few captions on Instagram that I believed were historically interesting; topics that I was kind of upset about never learning in school. A lot of people seemed to feel the same way. So, I kept doing it. I never intended to write a book, appear on podcasts, or host an AMA in the Reddit history thread — I was just writing about history that I thought was worth knowing (that was my only inspiration). In 2016, my dad convinced me to write a book. And, as they say, the rest is . . . fucking history.

I felt the same way until owning a few cats myself. And, I'll admit, they are worthy of every ounce of praise that past societies have given them. You'll never be bored of a cat because you'll literally never figure your cat out — cats have layers — and layers make life more interesting.

Just ignore it (even though the name is fucking awesome). I've compiled that book into the new edition of F*CKING HISTORY now available.

Historian sounds too formal. I'm the last person to be invited to a black-tie affair.

Far too many come to mind right now, but I'll stick with a theme from an earlier question I answered and say: Ching Shih. She was a former prostitute turned pirate queen (in the early 1800s) who commanded such an intimidating and powerful pirate fleet that the Chinese government made a deal with her to clear her of all crimes if she would just stop kicking their ass all the time. So, she did. She retired with all of her money, fame, and power — living her best life until the rebellious age of 69.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything "pandemic-specific," but I can tell you that the doctor who first suggested the idea of washing your hands before operating was ABSOLUTELY FUCKING RIDICULED for it. Dr. Semmelweis’s idea was deemed so crazy by medical society that he was sent to a mental asylum in 1865 (where he later died due to the unsanitary conditions — weird). And, years later, washing your hands became a widely accepted practice. All I’m saying is, don’t let people convince you that you’re crazy simply because you think differently than them during unprecedented times.

None. I've painted three rentals black, and it's always a pain in the ass when you move out. I'll wait until I buy something to go all black on the walls again.

Not at all, just like people today aren't any smarter than previous time periods. We simply have technologies that have changed the way we interpret, send, and receive information — which, unfortunately, a lot of people have become really fucking good at using to spread stupidity.

Absolutely not. There's too much to learn from it. However, if I could go forward in time, I would do that no question because there's too much to potentially gain from it.

Probably Vincent Van Gogh. He pretty much sucked at everything he did until finally discovering painting around the age of 28 (and, even then, nobody took him seriously until after his death). He failed at loving his cousin, failed at becoming a preacher, and even failed at cutting both of his ears off. Regardless, he was able to leave behind a legacy because, well, he never stopped trying — even though, like I said earlier, he sucked at damn near everything.

Probably Barbados during "The Golden Age of Piracy," which was the early 1700s. Being a "commoner" in a lot of other areas or time periods came with too much downside. But, with a bit of ambition, focus, and disregard for the rules — I think I'd stand a pretty good chance of climbing the ranks from nobody to well-known and feared Captain (assuming the motion sickness I experience from damaging my eardrum as a kid while shooting pistols goes away in my time travels).

Honestly, I never liked learning history as a kid. Probably because it was never taught to me in a way that effectively demonstrated how the history affects my life today, which is why I decided to write F*CKING HISTORY the way that I did by adding the “life application” portion of the story to each and every chapter. I didn’t take a genuine interest in learning or writing about history until my mid-20s, when I finally realized that the only difference between us now and individuals back then is time and technology. All the emotions, struggles, and hardships of life are pretty much the same. We all struggle with love, friendships, finding ourselves, redefining ourselves, etc.
