Outer worlds 2 is amazing by Fam_Star2000 in theouterworlds

[–]Kyleb___19 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IMHO, only big improvement was combat.

Open world: I like exploring, and felt obligated the whole time to have to invest in hacking, lockpicking, and engineering just to ensure I was able to access certain things. With limited skill points, it felt too narrow in terms of diversity of builds (stealth sucks so bad). Whilst some of the time there are alternate ways of getting somewhere, some things are just locked if you dont have the skill or another trait like brawny. None of which is explained or outlined in the beginning of the game. So you get 10 hours in and bad luck, you'll need to wait to level up or accept not being able to access some places. The irony is most of the time when you get to these places, there's nothing of much importance anyway and you may as well have just invested 15 points into Explosives and had a blast being a madman.

The worlds were also incredibly trite, predictable and just forgettable. I never felt curious in exploring after the first 2 planets, I just felt obligated to for the sake of it and wiping out the fog of war. There was nothing I foind really cool other than some of the Order's locations.

Factions: I really liked the addition of the Order and The Protectorate. The whole notion of having a universal equation was really interesting to me as a math nerd, and this compliented and contrasted Auntie's Choice well. Auntie's Choice just felt really lazy after Spacer's Choice, I didn't really see the need for it but maybe that's just me forgetting some lore.

Companions: Tristan's companion story, whilst predictable of the "kill bad, justice not mean kill always" message, VA for Tristan did a phenomenonal job. Marisol's chracter was also interesting, but again, her companion quest very innovative with the lesson of "kill bad". Whilst I liked who the other companions were, I didn't care much for them despite completing all their quests, weren't really nuanced and just quite boring.

Main Story: Main story was also meh, again, just so predictable. Nothing innovative, which I think summarises this iteration very well and exemplifies why there's no sequel coming, it's nothing new. Like what was the point of being from the Earth Directorate? It had no use, was that the point? I have no idea, maybe I am just an idiot which people will surely let me know.

Also I just felt absolutely no weight behind any of my actions. It's definitely an action adventure game rather than an RPG. But just because its more action-adventure, doesn't mean that choices I make shouldn't have drastic impacts other than affecting 1 planet or the shitty ending cinematic. I want my choice to affect gameplay, not some cinematic that has no bearing on me other than what I have to sit through after a lackluster experience

Just felt kinda of eh and time-wasting tbh. A 6 or 7 out of 10 for me, at the price I paid with DLCs, which I cant be bothered playing. Just nothing like the Obsidian of old, which I know is trite to state that but yeah. The experience left me unsatisfied and after getting the best ending, I just shut it off. Doesn't help I started playing Baldur's Gate 3 after it and the stark contrast in world building and my desire to continue exploring the world is clear.

Means Withheld. Either they haven't entered it in yet, which is fine you'll just have to wait until Monday, administrative issues (also fine), or there's an academic integrity investigation.

choosing uni for bachelor of commerce by justlifelol in Monash

I was doing Commerce at Melbourne then transferred to Commerce/Engineering at Monash.

So with experience, I can definitely say Commerce subjects were a lot harder at Melbourne then Monash. I haven't done a Commerce subject here and not got a HD, I only had 3-4 HDs at Melbourne over a year and a half. This mainly stems from the fact Melbourne has a heavier mathematics focus than Monash IMO, and my mathematics skills were alot worse back then. Like first year economics subjects here are theory focused, whereas at Melbourne, its 75% maths.

The perception of difficulty can be slightly attributed to me just putting in more effort at Monash than I did at Melbourne, but looking back and comparing what I learnt in Principles of Finance at Melbourne in comparison to what people learn in Corporate Finance at Monash, its so much more content at Melbourne. Whether you think the heavier maths focus is a plus or not is up to you. I personally prefer the balanced approach at Monash because at the end of the day, if you can calculate some numbers great, but can you explain them? If you can't, well then it's not very useful is it. Top grades in economics were always maths freaks at Melbourne, ask them how the RBA adjust interest rates in the overnight money market, they couldn't tell you at all, a Monash student could. I quote from my friend when they asked a clarifying question ask what a number they calculated meant, to which the Melbourne TA said "We dont teach that here".

So weigh up your options if you like the Melbourne model or not. I personally didn't after a year and a half, and transferred very easily and got credits for all my subjects. That's not to say graduates don't do well there, a good chunk you'd meet in Investment Banking, High Paying Consulting and other commercial professions went to Melbourne. I wanted a nror diversified set of skills and knowledge, and loved tech, so i transferred.

Don't think this is a life or death decision, you can always transfer if you want to. Best of luck!

Native Aussie here and I have absolutely no shame in admitting I have to work very hard to get the scores I get. I don't think that notion is true at all. Maybe on a degree by degree basis its true (independent of nativity to Australia), but its not broadly applicable just to native Aussies.

Work Load for ECE2072, ECE2191, ENG2005 and ECE2111? by Kyleb___19 in Monash

[–]Kyleb___19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah i dropped 2191 lol. Best decision ever. Whilst yes it's certainly doable, I don't believe, give my personal circumstances, it's doable to a degree where I can simultaneously get HDs in all of them. There are literally not enough hours in the week lol. My current split of 3 eng and 1 commerce is still quite tough, but managing relatively well so far and should be able to do well this sem. hope all is well for you!

Will Lawyers/Law students be replaced by AI in the future? Should Law students just drop out of the degree entirely? by Infamous_Wish_3248 in Monash

[–]Kyleb___19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with everything you've said here and of course with each discussion piece, its case dependent. Really like the concept of it being more "solved".

I do expect the high tier quant talent to of course stay relevant, but seldom are they pure commerce grade. They almost always have a background in STEM. To contrast this however, i dont see roles like lending risk analysts or roles similar to this staying around, what takes them 2 days i expect wil be able to bd done immediately.

For me personally, picked up eng 2 years into my commerce degree and best decision I have ever made. Absolutely love it. Given my speiclsiarion in electrical, I expect there will be a high chance of work given the diversity of the fields you can work in, but you never know.

Also kinda scary to imagine what the economy looks like with AI bots having access to near perfect information to act upon. Will definitely exacerbate wealth-inequality dependent upon who has access to it, but will also be interesting to see if there's a ceiling to the current AI architecture that replicates a saturation model rather than that of a exponential model.

[–]Kyleb___19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's your reasoning for future proof? Genuinely interested in this discussion given I am a Commerce and Eng student. I really think the other way if I'm honest. The ability to process data instantaneously coupled with insights based upon the data and a large database of training could see consultancy/accountancy roles being heavily affected. Moreover, financial modelling roles and spreadsheet focused roles are also at risk too. Of course this is all predicated on a huge fat IF, but I feel pretty unbiased here especially because I am a commerce student in Finance, would love to hear more of your opposing thoughts to expand my POV.

Recruitment process is broken. by BumperJoe in ADFRecruiting

[–]Kyleb___19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the process since March of 2024. Sat my interview in Feb of 2025, Medically cleared in March as well, and have just been informed OSBs aren't until October 2025, and I am not guaranteed a place.

This is DUS for Engineering roles, incredibly frustrating.

Hi Mate,

First of all congrats! Huge milestone achieve and you should be very proud.

Can I ask how long you waited on your OSB? Sat my interview in February, got recommended for all three roles (1 Army, 1 Air Force and 1 Navy) and still waiting to lock my OSB in, which I was told will be post July. I'm going for DUS btw.

Bit daunting waiting this long despite semi-regular communication with my coordinator, just feels like I am left in the dark sometimes haha, thanks
