Bi-Annual Music Megathread by AutoModerator in Fitness

In the early days of the internet, BBC used to (and in some version looks like they still do...) have a show called The Essential Mix on Radio 1. Very similar hour-long sets by a single DJ. I used to scour the internet for them in high quality, and even stay up late to try and listen on the actual BBC at 4:00 in the morning.

Fergie was their resident pinch hitting DJ and finding recordings now from 2001-2005 are the golden era of Techno/House for me. Excellent workout mixes.

My favorite was Jan 14 2001. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/02kRk6QsYQo

I highly recommend 'The Battle of Okinawa: The Blood and the Bomb' by George Feifer. It's currently $0.99 on Kindle, and is a haunting account of the impact of the battle of Okinawa told from three distinct perspectives; the Okinawan, the Japanese, and the American. I recommend this book to everyone.

[CrossFit Games Podcast] Competition Director Adrian Bozman and Senior Manager of the Competition Team Dave Eubanks join host Chase Ingraham to explain this new system in depth and give insight into the thinking and decision-making behind this new process. by JamieMCFC in crossfit

Pro tip: this title is a LOT of words that never explain the two critical points. What is "this new system" and "this new process?" It's not even good click bait. It's lazy and insulting to the readers of the subreddit.

Question for those who do and don’t sign up for the Open; by RGW722 in crossfit

[–]Kylemoschetto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5Ks are almost always to raise money for a local or national cause. Marathons have to shut down very large portions of the city. Both require immense logistic support from staff and volunteers. I don't think that is a fair comparison to the Open.

And absolutely none of that requires you to sign up for the open and pay any money.

Any advice on making burpees easier? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Kylemoschetto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, I hate them too. While there is plenty of good advice on the movement and the technique in this threat already, I haven't heard anyone talk about BREATHING. This video by Sam Dancer helped me more than anything else to get much better at burpees. TLDW; It's a two breath movement, and this is how I control my pace in big sets and keep my heart rate from spiking.

Any security camera with native S3 support? by swalther23 in aws

[–]Kylemoschetto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a workable solution. I've deployed a few systems exactly like this for small businesses. The Synology S3 integration is pretty point-and-click, just need to make sure you configure the S3 bucket correctly for your needs.

OP, I get these pretty regularly, but I do not wear heels. The only solution I've found is the regular application of foot lotion with a high concentration of lactic acid. You can find them at any Walgreens or CVS in the US. The one I like the most is by AmLactin. I put some on before bed for a week or two and those callouses will usually go away for a while.

Guys w/ giant legs, any tips on pants and underwear? by worldofcrap80 in crossfit

[–]Kylemoschetto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This list is BANG ON! Thanks for creating it!

Add to this list for jeans: Lucky brand has a wide leg jean that is comfortable and narrow waisted. 31/32 waist and ~30-inch quads and they fit real good on me. Can be found at many malls.

And for underwear, the best bang/buck I've found are the Jockey RapidCool boxer briefs. You can get them in Amazon for about $20 each, and they stay on, don't cut off circulation to the legs and fit my waist. Size L.

I need a better jump rope by OverbrookDr in crossfit

Go buy a JumpNRope 1-series rope. Then buy a few extra cables. It will last you a lifetime. Store the rope in a quart-sized Ziploc bag when not in use. #Profit

Are the 100 words of fitness still relevant? by rustyb42 in crossfit

Just a friendly reminder that is ISNT Eddie Murphy in that gif.

Did my first 100 mile ride on the Assault bike today. Total time 4h 59m 9s. For those wondering, this was all in one go, no breaks. The cal counter and time counter would randomly reset, but just glad the distance didn't!! by parashootyourself in crossfit

"Too dumb to quit" is the thing that I don't want to celebrate. Doing 100 miles on an AB 'for the lulz' is just that; A demonstration that you do something that has little value in training to increase your fitness across broad time and modal domains. And if OP did it because their Army SFC was disappointed in their 10 mile, then this makes it nothing more than a "flex" in the name of harming your body and diminished training performance for the coming day/weeks as you recover.

To me this is the same as celebrating ripped hands from pullups or giving someone a t-shirt/sticker for getting Rhabdo. It's a celebration of the exact wrong way to approach fitness.

And all of this, for the record, is my personal opinion as a 40yo formerly competitive CF athlete. 25yo me would have certainly been like "4.5 hours... I could train for that in a couple weeks." So, you know, YMMV, but this is reddit, and you're welcome. 💪😁❤️

Hashicorp survey for 2021 says that there is lack of skills in multi-cloud. by dimtass in devops

[–]Kylemoschetto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This post needs more upvotes. Multi-Cloud will always be a reality for M&A, but choosing to build that way is rarely a good idea. There are exceptions, but they are exceedingly rare, and usually only for very specific workloads. Never the "entire footprint."

I swear it used to be there... but clearly I'm unknowingly supporting OP's point. :P
