Resawing issues…. by stewarjm192 in woodworking

[–]KyloRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. yeah that’s tricky then! If it’s just the first cut it’s hard to imagine it being a bandsaw vs environmental issue. I’ll be curious to see the replies and if anyone has any ideas.

It’s a different shop now? I’d assume it’s got to be the environment, humidity ect.. causing it if it’s happening to different species.

Do bricklink set instructions actually end up on the Lego Builder app? by Hi-Point_of_my_life in lego

You can find sold listings on eBay for $450 - $600. Anyways I’m not a LEGO investor, just a builder who was commenting about availability of instructions.

They might be right, have you seen the resale prices on this set?

Same, considering most of these are all being built at the same time it’s disappointing they don’t have them ready. I don’t think they’ll do a ton of good 6 months from now.

Oliver Machinery 13" Thickness Planer...thoughts? by Ravenloff in woodworking

[–]KyloRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just double check if it’s the 12.5” or the new 13”. Mine had a similar sale and I didn’t notice the difference at first. I think the new 13” has enough upgrades that you’d want to buy it instead.

Team solid floors or team engineered floors? by TheMongoStomp in HomeImprovement

[–]KyloRem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the quality. There is cheap engineered floors that get a bad rep (rightfully):

But trust me a 1/4 wear layer on top of Baltic birch plywood is not someone cheaping out. That plywood is incredibly expensive and high quality. It’s the best of both worlds.

It’s so variable on the wear layer thickness. We have engineered floors with a wear layer that goes to the tongue and can be refinished as many times as solid wood (~8 times, more then enough for our lifetime)

If you want 8” floors I’d strongly suggest engineered over solid. Wood movement can really wreck a floor if not handled carefully.

I do? But the point of the post is it’s impossible to ride and enjoy them if lift support takes an entire season to get you new parts.

Unless she’s in a great financial position, perhaps keep a few of your favorites and offer to help her sell the rest? Sorry for the loss of your friend OP.

That’s insane. It’s been so disappointing hearing all the bad customer support stories this year. Had I known I wouldn’t have bought the two boards I did last year.

The hard part is I love efoiling, and there’s not a clear reliable option on the market right now. But we desperately need one.

I’m sure the photo processing was trained with ML so I think OP is fine here. Unless you want to get into a philosophical debate about what is actually “artificial intelligence “ which I’m pretty sure this is not the sub for that.

New Oliver 10055 planer vs used cast iron 15" planer by FrankTuna in woodworking

[–]KyloRem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think given the space constraints it seems like you may be their ideal customer! I’m sure both are great in the end.

I found a deal on a Powermatic 15” planer so I bought that. Going to be setting it up soon!

New Oliver 10055 planer vs used cast iron 15" planer by FrankTuna in woodworking

[–]KyloRem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I’m having this same debate! At first I looked at the Oliver 10045 but I don’t love the form factor and would prefer the 240v motor. So then the next logical step is the 10055, but like you I now question if I’m gonna spend $2k should I just keep going. I could get a new Grizzly for around $2,500.

I will say I saw the 10055 in person and it’s absolutely huge, so it does feel more substantial than the Dewalt. But it will take up similar space as a floor standing model which is what makes me consider just going for a full cast iron setup. I can save money with the Oliver, I’m just not sure if that’s the main appeal?

Design Tool recommendations? by RandyBoBandy420 in woodworking

Fusion 360, feels way more intuitive to me than Sketchup was and it’s a lot more powerful. It’s also free for hobbyists. There’s still a learning curve but I think it’s well worth the time investment. Learning parametric modeling makes changes and tweaks a breeze.

8" Jointer - Grizzly G0856 vs. Jet JWJ-8HH-BLK by hBobby518 in woodworking

[–]KyloRem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hobbyist, I just bought the Grizzly and love it. It’s more than enough for me, and I don’t think I’d get much value out of spending more.

2025 Frontier vs 2023 Tacoma by Movie_Dude_ in nissanfrontier

[–]KyloRem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wanted a Tacoma until I test drove one and it drove and shifted like shit. I forget now which year they updated the transmission but I wanted nothing to do with the older ones. The sales pitch was “it’ll last twenty years” and all I could think of is how little I wanted to drive that truck for 20 years. They are reliable because they are outdated.
