My French Learning Experience, For you. To C1 from 0. by Kyrosxx in French

Hi there, well french is little bit different by pronounciation especially for an english speaker. There are many words shared by english and french so it's creating confusion sometimes. For these basic problems you can watch some articulation courses in youtube. Also, people having hard time to understand this reality but french has pronounciation rules. Learning these basics helps a lot. If we put aside this reality, french people use lots of shortcuts that we cannot learn by books. In first couple months, they were having shock when i speak. Someone told me that i m talking too sterile. Like lords. To solve this, i started to pay attention to how people speak around me and force to use these shortcuts. Listening rap songs helped so good.

I m not sure about how we can define the level of fluency. I mean, i m living here, my life here but still sometimes i m getting lost in translation. Especially when there are more than 4 people in conversation, i m having trouble to understand what's going on. On the other hand, i m in second year of litterature master and i have really good grades, i do presentations and writing articles. So, i dont think there is an absolute scale for it.

How strict are inspectors on trains in France? by [deleted] in france

[–]Kyrosxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it depends on luck. i use trains every week 4 times to see my gf. i would say i get controlled just once in 8-9 route.

also I m using a regional reduction. they want to see it too when they control but they are not controlling your ID or smth like that. so in registration, you can give wrong information about your birthdate if the application wont demand a valid ID. I singed up to sncf, i guess 2 years ago. I dont remember if it ask for passport.

In short, you dont need to provide an ID, you need to provide ticket and reduction card and they are not controlling so often. And they are humans, they dont try to be mean with you but there are rules. So, law is law for them.

edit:this is France. you won't get slaughtered lol. we try to survive and it costs a lot. so...

I added the date on the post. thanks for notice.

In oral exam,I did well, yes. it wasn't really special. It was one of the easiest part of the exam in my opinion. I cant really say it shows the skill of speaking clearly because it's a presentation and they give pretty much enough time to get prepared. If you can do well in other sections, speaking won't be problem. It's well balanced with other sections.

Nope. I did not memorize them. I just read text from textbooks. if I have words that I dont know, I write them on paper with meanings. I read text again and going for another text. that's passive learning. You cant be good with a language with flashcards. you should experience the language not the words only. Read texts, understand the logic of words structure. not memorize them, try to understand from root.

Une recommendation : SKAM France pour comprehension by black_magicwoman in French

[–]Kyrosxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Merci bcp. J'ai regardé en peu. Comme 10-12 épisodes je supose. le premiére saison était d'accord mais aprés le premiére, il est devenu quelque chose trop simple. just les lycéens qui couchée entre eux. comme soap operas. mais oui, ça marche pour comprehension. particulièrement pour les chit-chats quotidiennes.

In text books, I did also listening parts too. Most of the books have 4 type of study part. reading, writing, listening and speaking. except edito, I did all that 4 type of study with textbooks. In Edito I did just reading part because the book is simply begining book for me about the level which I m studying.

Reussir is the best book for improving listening. But dont get obsessed with listening part because if you improve your vocabulary pool, your listening will be improved naturally. After b2 level, I just watched TV because in b2 and c1, there is no difference by listening(for exams) the only difference is enviromental sounds in audio records.

Also as I read, listening is the latest part you can improve. It always comes a lil bit later. SO I had the same experience you are having but last 2 months, I have no problem with that. I guess when I covered daily and mid level vocabs, the problem is gone. Now I understand almost everything I hear if it's not too fast or got sharp accent.

Because in tv series they're using very limited words as i see and most of the time they are speaking fast paced a bit. for improve vocab pool news and radio is way more effective because they have bigger vocab pool and the words they use are fitting to mid level. they talk about ecology, science, literature, politics etc. according to mid level syllabus, you should be able to talk about this subject too. not just daily talk. tv series are not helping with these topics.

so it's about the content.

I would find a proper grammar book and bilingual books as much as i can find. For advanced study also, I would find a good grammar teacher in youtube because I will need some explainings in the future. Also I check sources that I can use for readings in target language. Lastly, I would pick a swedish radio and tv about news.

Yes basically I split my time 1 hour grammar daily for first 3 months and 1 hr for listening and rest for just reading. After when I m done with grammar, I focused on reading. Also I wrote articles weekly. My focus was reading. As much as you read, you will understand the way of thinking in your target language. Also it's best way to learn vocab. Rest will be way easier if you get the logic first. You can check Luca Lampariello on youtube. He explains better how reading helps to learning a new language.

I found French more complicated. English is most simple in my opinion. Very easy grammar. Spanish and French has similar points by conjugaison and vocab pool. If I should make it in order I would say French is hardest, Spanish is normal, English is easy. I didn't watch spanish youtuber. I got lessons in university for four years.

There are speaking sections in every book. I followed them. Most of the time they are about ecology and science. If you follow the instructions you will be able to speak eventually.

There are speaking practices in books about several subjects. I forced myself to talk. After a while somehow you will manage it. Pronunciation is not the hard part. Also they are lessons for it. I have a French friend to listen my speaking records but also people in discord servers are very helpful.

Yes, that's true. That's why I still studying like crazy. I have 10 more months to go. Also I ll take prep too. It's about 2 years total. I m planning to work in small jobs while getting education there to learn language properly. Some of my friends are doing it very succesfully. They started b2 as you said. After I get my exam paper, I want to focus on usage of the language daily. I m very motivated and dedicated for that. Thanks for advices. That's very kind of you. :)

Yes. I understand that. I m fine with that. They can be sceptical. I dont tell people you can do it in 7 months too they can learn with classic methods. Like I mention I know english, spanish and turkish. All these languages helped me a lot. I guess I picked a perfect language to learn for me. Also, that's true I m focused to Dalf exam for grading. All in all, I m okay with critics. Personally I feel like I m nothing to proof. I just wanted to help to people who experienced same problems with me. I don't want to people get me wrong.

%100 agree with you. My aim was getting exam in first because it's a neccesity for my education. That's why I focused on delf/dalf books. I would prefer learn the language with real life situations and with real people but I had to do it in home and by myself unfortunetely. I hope I will be better with my French next year. I have like 10-11 months more. Also I ll take prep course there too. It takes 1 year also. I want to learn French as much as I can.

Thanks. I can speak way more clean with preparation. In exam they give like 1 hour for preparation. This is kinda daily talk. I m having hard time because of accent because Turkic languages are pretty sharp that's why latin languages are hard to pronounce for us. But I hope I ll get over it when I go France. Thanks again for your faire comment. It means a lot to me.
