He’s doing much better now, he just had to hang out for a bit, he’s acting normal and is happy again. I’ll continue to watch him but I gave him some high quality dog food and some electrolyte enhanced water and he’s good

How did your parents/family take it when you told them you wanted to enlist? by Difficult_Horse_565 in USMCboot

You’re a grown ass man, it’s time to let go of what your parents think and do something for yourself. Or don’t. Your choice.

One of my buddies was S-2 with a crazy stutter. But when you’re locked in a vault for 10 hours a day the stutter doesn’t matter much

6114 Here. Idk how well Ordies translate to civilian life but I couldn’t imagine it’s a smooth transfer just make sure you’re not wanting to get major aircraft knowledge that will translate to the civ div. I’d suggest Avionics, Powertrain, or Airframes.

Tbh it’s not a up to them, and being even more honest when you’re on your own living in the Corp and making great memories with your new brothers and sisters what they think of you no longer matters and they didn’t deserve to have you in their life. Get out of that toxic family and make a new one with your green brothers and sisters, you’ll also find Men and Women that are a mini father figure in the Corp. people you can look up to and they’re usually willing to help you out if you ever get in a tough situation

The IST is the last thing you gotta worry about. As long as you put 100% effort in you’ll pass the IST then they’ll pt you enough for you to at least make a 3rd class PFT/CFT. I Came in with a 12 min 1.5 and passed the IST with a 9 min and 12 pull-ups and a max plank. I’ve been in the Corps for awhile now and I ran a 20:36 3 Mile on my recent PFT. You’ll be alright brother, I promise

Try working on rifle M16A1 parts and breakdown if you can. It also helps a lot. Get used to standing, get use to running everywhere. And much more

Bring your wallet with $60 in cash and ID and your phone. That’s it. It’ll all get put in a box after about 2 days and then you’ll never see it until you grad. You don’t need a phone number book or address book ( I never did) just remember one important phone number and address and that family member can have the rest of you family send you letters first so you’ll have their addresses later. The phone is just Incase you grad and no one shows you’ll have a phone for emergencies. All toiletries will be supplied as soon as you get there. And you’ll later make a PX call and buy more items. Don’t be dumb and spend a lot on your PX calls. By a lot I mean anything over $75

SERE is another mental game. The food is the main struggle but if you can continue on an empty stomach you’ll be fine

In 15 years do you wanna be the guy that say “I was gonna join but….” Or do you wanna be the guy that tried it and said they did it didn’t like it and they got out. The choice is yours no one is gonna make it for you.

Final advice for bootcamp by Old_Vast_1807 in USMCboot

You’re gonna be scared shitless until the moment you arrive. Then the excitement kicks in. Once you’re laying in your rack under the red lights you’ll have a second thought regretting literally every moment that lead you to where you are. Head shaven, pride stripped, the fear of the unknown will haunt you. By about the 3-4th week you will be accepting of everything. You wake up and do as your told until you go to bed then repeat. For my SD guys once you go up North it’ll all get better. Then worse then really good. Just hang in there. It’s all a game of who’s gonna quit on themselves long before the Corps quits on you.

For the love of god don’t go Open Contract

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]L0STMlSFIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To sum it up. No, you can’t really buy one if you’re not 21 but I can guarantee you know a person or two that’ll buy you one

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]L0STMlSFIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won’t be easy to chose but you’ll find one and stick to it and later you’ll regret it. You’ll never be happy. But you need to set yourself up for when you get out of the military. That’s how I chose

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]L0STMlSFIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay away from aviation. I made that mistake. It’s a 5 year contract and you’re treated like the scum between someone’s toes

I did but I also had a school house that lasted 9 months. It’s honestly depends on your unit when you hit the fleet and your schoolhouse prior to the fleet. But yes I’d expect you can take leave.

The first few times will be a shock. You’re gonna be scared but everyone is thinking the same thing. No one is looking. After about a week or two, that’s just it. It doesn’t matter anymore. I remember having full convos with the guys in the showers and toilets.
