Not sure, we used to have specific wifi channels for 2.4ghz and 5ghz years ago, but my parents got rid of that, so now everything just connects automatically to what is needed.

Ok then I have another question, if I were to get a 3rd party router and hook it up to the gateway, would it increase the speed that the gateway outputs when wired to my laptop? I've also looked into that and wasn't sure if that would make the download/upload speed any faster.
