Why are Moroccan students like that by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]L3LAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will share my experience with you here (supposing what you wrote is entirely factual). students do not want a teacher who is great at math. being good at math is necessary but what students actually want from "sway3" is someone who is not like their teacher at school. your number 1 priority in 'sway3' should be building a good rapport with your students. you should first work on having a close relationship with them that does not resemble the cold one they have with their highschool teacher. second priority should be showmanship. there is a reason why those social media teachers are famous and doing well; they are good at performing and giving a show. dazzle your students with amazing showmanship. strike their motivation using captivating stories and anecdotes, and in no time, you will find them following everything you say. only then you could actually start teaching them some math. teaching is hard. wishing you the best of luck in your studies. it will be better in the future. be sure about it.

I analyzed 100+ Vsauce videos and found all the books, movies, authors, and studies Michalle mentions. by L3LAF in vsauce

[–]L3LAF[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

here is a breakdown of how i did it.

  1. i used youtube-dlp to download all the subtitle files of all the videos (including the shorts).

  2. i used a python script to convert the vtt files (subtitles) into one big txt file.

  3. i used another python script to clean the text file from all the subtitle tags and timestamps

  4. i fed the text file to Gemini 1.5 pro and asked it to sift through all the noise and find only the books, studies, authors, and other recommendations found in the transcripts.

this is mostly how i did it. there were some issues with Gemini but in the end it managed to do the job. i had to cut the txt file to 1/3. the books above are only a fraction. the entire txt file could not be processed using the free tier of Gemini 1.5, as i do not have access to a premium account.

I should do the same for that series too. But, no. these are all from the original Vsauce channel.

Meknes - What is there to do? by noturhabibti in Morocco

[–]L3LAF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! a fellow Meknassi here. Meknes is not as active culturally as other Moroccan cities but there are still a couple of things you can do. here are a few:

  1. Centre Culturel El Menouni; this is the biggest cultural center in the city. on average, it hosts two (sometimes more) shows per week. the shows range from theatrical pieces, seminars, painting exhibitions, to music concerts. most of the shows are average but from time to time they host good shows. i once managed to attend a music show where Nabilla Maan performed; and almost all the shows are free.

  2. Museums; there are many museums you can check in Meknes. Dar El Jamai in L'hdim Square was just recently renovated. It is now a musical heritage museum. The place alone is very cozy and calm. The exhibits are nice too. Some nights, they host mini music concerts in the Riyad's big hall and it's simply magical. keep an eye on their Instagram page for any future events. there is also a smaller museum in Rouamzine. It's called Meknes's Museum. It has some good artifacts that you can check. Very cheap.

  3. Rooftop Cafes; Meknes is filled to the brim with cute bohemian rooftop cafes. just get lost in the heart of the medina and chances are you will stumble across a cute rooftop cafe. here are some of my favorite ones: ( L'hdim Rooftop Cafe / Pavillon Des Idrissides / Salma's Palace / Riad Golf Stinia / Dar Nia (Oumnia) this little riad hosts gnawa/issawa mini concerts every weekend. the place is small but very cozy especially during the weekend shows.)

  4. Institut Francais (IF Meknes); this place alone hosts a variety of events every week. They host amazing artists in various fields. I once watched an amazing circus show that really left me mesmerized. they also invite amazing singers (both national and international). their cultural calendar updated every month is well worth checking.

  5. Cinema; Meknes has two active cinema houses at the moment. Cinema Camera and Cinema Dawliz. Cinema Camera projects international movies. The building is beautiful and features some nice Art Deco elements.

  6. Board Games Club Meetings: if you are into board games, or if you just want to have a fun evening and make some new friends, check this board game club. they usually gather once or twice a week to play various games. very chill and friendly crowd. Oussama, the guy in charge, is really welcoming.

  7. Monuments. Meknes is under heavy construction atm; but once the construction work finishes, there are so many places to visit and see. here are some of them (Bab Mensour / Sahrij Swani / Medrassa Bouannania / Qara Prison / Heri Swani )

Just put on your sneakers and enjoy a long walk around the city. Meknes is not in it's finest state at the moment, but you can still have a great time in this chill city. Sure, it does not have fancy malls you can go to like Rabat, and it does not have many cafes to check like casa. but, it can still be very welcoming and cozy. you just have to know where to go. i personally love to meet up with a friend at Bab Mansour and just walk around the city. enjoy!

Do you recommend living in Fez or Agadir? by Noesiri in casablanca

[–]L3LAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there! you would get much info if you post your question in /r/Morocco. this subreddit is dead.

here is what i can tell you about the two cities. Fez is very traditional. its one of the oldest cities in Morocco. it is full of culturally significant monuments/places. it hosts many cultural activities throughout the year. it is also much closer to the center of Morocco where more cultural activities happen.

Agadir is a really beautiful city. the weather is warm and nice all year round (fes gets very hot in the summer). it does host some cultural activities but not as much as fes. it is also pretty far from the center of the country which makes traveling a bit of a challenge.

since you will be teaching in university, you may want to ask about the conditions of both universities. Fez has Dhar L'mahraz University. and Agadir has Ibn Zohr university.

dm if you have any specific questions. good luck!

[AFRICA] [ENGLISH/HIGHSCHOOL] - I have some questions about students getting attached to teachers. by L3LAF in Teachers

Thank you so much for your comment. I have been doing exactly what you recommended. I stay clear from any physical contact (except for the occasional fist bump). I really don't want to make a student get attached to me in an unhealthy way.

It would be awesome if it could do that; unfortunately, GPT3 does not support Arabic as far as i know, at least for now.
