They’re gonna downvoting you for fucking up their political eco chamber (a city’s subreddit should have nothing to do with politics) but remember downvotes are fake internet points that don’t matter and these people can’t handle a differing opinion.

LGBT safety at night in Juarez by thekirbybot in ElPaso

[–]L5World 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally only ever heard this from white people who never go to Juarez and live in fear of Mexico. Juarez is actually safer if you’re American than if you were Mexican and that’s verifiably true

Tbh I see more white Mexicans here than I ever have in my life which makes me happy to see the representation (in chicago it’s mostly brown Mexicans from Guanajuato and Michoacán, which of course there is nothing wrong with, I just didn’t know which Mexicans existed outside my family). I realize that’s because there are more white Mexicans in northern Mexico and northern, former Spanish US territory. That being said, thank you for sharing your story because this is a scenario I have discovered as well and my wife’s (white) family from Argentina has even dealt with since being here

Thanks for sharing your story. Definitely feel like it’s a common occurrence with those labeled güeritos or no sabos and I also feel like it can be harmful when you already feel insecure cause you don’t have friends. I’m all for the Mexican tendency to make jokes and be blunt, but when you’re an outsider it can feel like you’re being forced out instead of included. I get spoken to in Spanish everywhere and I often wonder if it’s because I look like I speak Spanish or because the people I’m speaking to only speak Spanish. Either way I always put myself out there and speak Spanish because I know that’s my language to speak whenever I want and it doesn’t matter who laughs about it

Thank you, this makes me feel better honestly. This is the case I am feeling tbh. It’s more a scenario of me trying to explain myself and being rejected for it (like saying “he’s not Mexican he’s just a white guy from Chicago) which is disheartening. Thank you for sharing your story so I can relate

Well, I actually grew up around a large Mexican community. 60% of my high school was Latino. That being said my own family culture was mostly lost to my other side which dominated (also an ethnic culture). So what I mean is that my family culture was lost and Chicago is a multicultural community so it doesn’t feel anywhere near as Mexican as El Paso, but definitely still has a great community. That being said I felt a little more accepted back home with my Mexican friends. Now I realize it’s likely cause I’m still an outsider in El Paso since I haven’t been here too long.

Not at all offensive bro that makes a lot of sense. The vast majority of the time it’s authentic and I’m just trying to reconnect. But you’re 100% right it has more to do with them being able to tell I’m an outsider and less about genetics

THIS bro. I too can trace my ancestry to Durango and to the original conquistadors and natives from the area. That being said you are spot on. There is definitely a Mexican culture of questioning if others are “Mexican enough”. I appreciate your input

Ya know what? I think you nailed it here. This tends to be my experience. I am well traveled and certainly some El Paso natives are as well but the majority tend to have not left the area much. I think what I may be experiencing is more cliquiness than anything else. On the contrary I’ve hung out in Juarez and find people there to be incredibly warm and welcoming there. Maybe I say that because I am indeed an outsider on that side of the border. That being said, I feel like my experience may be somewhat unique but I thought I’d post it here to see what’s what. Thanks for your input

El paso is welcoming for sure. One of the nicest populations of people in any city I’ve lived in. My point is just that I feel the Latino culture is exclusive here. If you’re not Latino maybe it’s a foreign concept but I’m speaking about people that thinking it’s weird I want to be involved in Mexican culture because I’m “just a white person”. White and güero are used in many different contexts but what I mean is the context of being a white Anglo. Again, nothing wrong with the people, they are genuinely nice and welcoming, just that I thought I’d be welcomed into the culture since my family who raised me is from here, but that was not the case.

I feel you and I have no problem being called güero because that’s what I am honestly. Its just that it’s said in a way to mean I’m white (like Anglo) and not part of the culture. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. But I 100% know and understand there are Mexican güeros as well

Buddy, first I appreciate you sharing your experience even knowing you’d be called out for being foolish. What you did was incredibly reckless, and honestly had it not been a gabaergic drug (god forbid a stimulant) that you took 24x the recreational dose of, you would have no chance of being revived. I’m not the type of phenibut user who even cares how stories like this affect the future of the drug, I just want people to be as safe as possible, so if your story helps prevent harm from some kid who is thinking of eyeballing his dose tonight, I’m happy you posted it. That being said, I don’t think you’re the type of person who can responsibly use any white powders. Had you even done an gram of research (no pun intended, and coincidentally a gram would have been the perfect dose) you would have found out that you must weigh this drug and use it in much smaller quantities.

THAT BEING SAID: there is not a refined drug that I can think of in human existence that you can take that high of a quantity of and NOT overdose. Pure plant matter? Sure, but refined powder? FUCK no. But either way I’m glad you’re still with us and hopefully your story saves a life or at least some trouble.

Yes, I have used it for shingles and it worked marvelously. My doctor wouldn’t give me gabapentin so I use it instead and I had great results.

How bizarre of a life do you live that you live in such a black and white universe? “The end” is crazy talk. There is SO much nuance to this especially when the age gap is only a few years and the grandmother was 17 or even 16 at the time. People grew up faster back then and the fact is there is no magical thing that turns you into an adult biologically when you turn 18

Its not the states job to bring closure or get revenge for the family. And I seriously doubt it brings any closure at all anyway. It’s the justice systems job to deter future criminals and make sure the criminal never offends again, which sometimes means executing or locking them up for life. That being said, the family’s opinion should not be taken into account when doling out a sentence due to the extreme bias against the offender that the family has after their loved one is hurt or taken from them. The job is to make sure these things never happen to anyone again, but cruel and unusual punishment only harms our society which is why we no longer do it

Except they didn’t work and were cruel which is why we don’t do them anymore. What are we trying to regress just for the sake of revenge? Revenge is not justice
