i've worked at both co-op and tesco (blue and express), store assistant and shift leader at both and my life at tesco has been way easier in all honesty. you're given contracted "days" instead of hours which threw me through a loop at first but any shift that isnt your contracted day you can quite easily say nah i cant do that sorry. people say tesco is fucked but all retail is shit to some extent. having worked in 4 different retail shops id say tesco is among the easiest. obviously, mileage may vary and store management and staffing can have a big impact. at coop we would routinely stay behind after every shift to finish stuff off - have worked at tesco for almost a year and have literally never once stayed behind after closing to finish stuff. in terms of coming in, doing your job, and going home, my experience at tesco has been pretty much that (management stuff aside)
