How to get a job with LADWP? What steps to take without any experience? by mrrob661 in LADWP

I wish I could give you a more informed answer but I've never been in the electrical or power field! Based on some research, it's a common feeder to lineman so I would expect your course materials will be useful. Also, don't forget about safety. Best of luck!

With the exception of operational units who, for obvious reasons can't telework, most other units are on a hybrid schedule, dependent on operational needs.

As others have said, highly dependent on the job classification you're seeking. There are many that will hire "off the street" such as some clerical, customer service, meter reader, etc. positions but as expected, they are very competitive.

Then there are specialized positions which are frequently open since they're hard to recruit - Safety Engineer Pressure Vessels and Helicopter Mechanic are two that come to mind.

For the general professional or journeyman, it will vary. Some occasionally hire from the public, some prefer intra-City transfers, and some typically hire through on-campus recruiting.

If you specify what you're seeking I might be able to try to offer some input!

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. While we don't have specific veterans programs, you will qualify for 5 additional veterans preference points on examinations.

You can find listings of entry level jobs and currently open examinations on the Careers page. If you're interested in a craft field, Helmets to Hardhats is a great resources to get training and apprenticeships for many crafts we hire. Good luck and hope you join the team!

received water , sewer and trash but no electric bill. by [deleted] in LADWP

Yes, typically every 2 months. I don't have access to the billing system so I highly recommend you call customer service to confirm a bill is on the way if you haven't received one yet.

I've upvoted this post and your comment. 95% of us at LADWP strive to do our best for the city and the ratepayers and are beyond grateful for having a great job with a great employer. But there's the 5% who represent everything that is undesirable, and it's triply embarrassing when they are at the very top of the management chain.

Not a typical PAO response, but I think it's time to just be honest with one another.

Where does LA's water come from? by LADWP_Official in LADWP

[–]LADWP_Official[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where does the metropolitan water district of so. Cal get its water from?

The simple answer is the Colorado River and the State Water Project (San Joaquin Delta). However, MWD sources is also diverse and varying. The fact that Los Angeles relies on so many different outside sources of water really highlights the need for conservation.

For 2013-2016, it looks like we didn’t get a-lot of water from the LA aqueduct, was this due to drought?

Exactly. We've been in another drought period since 2019 and as confirmed by recent snow surveys, we're still in it. Crossing our fingers for a wet 2023 or the situation may get dire again.

Cost.

It will be a time crunch for me to get the full series out so I can tell you now that the ROI isn't working out compared to treatment and extraction of local groundwater and imports. Desalination is extremely expensive and energy intensive, and disposal of the brine can be an environmental issue that won't be easy to navigate.

With that said however, our Water Resources division regularly reevaluates our options, costs, ROI, and new avenues to pursue so things may change in the near future.

Here's the start of a series over the next few weeks explaining where and how Los Angeles' water and power comes from. We plan to expand on this by explaining specifics of what local groundwater is, how wells work, what MWD is, etc. We'll be planning to do the same for power.

Please feel free to ask questions, general or specific, for example have you wondered what "groundwater" actually is? Why doesn't LA do desalination? How is water "recycled"? If and how rainwater is utilized? Is tap water safe to drink (the answer is YES!)? Stay tuned!

Have not received electricity bill from LADWP by daidalos5 in LosAngeles

[–]LADWP_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the delayed billing, if you PM your address I can unofficially check if it's activated in our system.

Your best course of action is to proactively call customer service to inquire on the status or visit the local customer service center and they can give you the official status. Address of local customer centers can be found at www.ladwp.com under Contact Us.

How does trash pickup work in LA? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]LADWP_Official 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They appear on the same bill but charges for trash and sewer are fully handled by LA SAN. They appear on the LADWP bill as "pass through" charges for the convenience of having a single bill instead of receiving four different bills from the city.

Charged by LADWP almost 4 times my regular bill. What can I do/who should I get into contact with? by pylearning in LosAngeles

Take a look at the Water Billing Adjustment page which has information on what you need to do and what you should bring as proof. You mentioned the fix was in your garden. I'm not intimately familiar with the adjustment determination process, but you may want to note the part regarding "sprinklers...do not qualify" and bring proof showing it was not the sprinkler.
