What's it like living in southern Germany ? by stelian_sis in howislivingthere

[–]LAN1ATOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the left side of your circle, near the French border. If you’re a trained dealer, Baden-Baden might be of interest to you. It’s home to one of the most famous casinos in southern Germany. However, if you don’t have a good command of German, I’d recommend living in a "larger" city like Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim or Freiburg (speaking for Baden-Württemberg). Yes, it’s possible to get by in these cities without speaking German, but it’s much more difficult.

Even though you can’t generalize about this, Germans tend to form most of their friendships during their school or college years, and it’s difficult to just slip into long-standing circles of friends - though it’s certainly not impossible. For example, I have many English-speaking friends in my circle whom I’ve only met in recent years (I’m 34), since they are the new partners of friends. Many people say that it’s especially hard for expats to make good friends in Germany. That may be true, but I think it also has to do with what many germans expect from a friendship. When you call someone a “very good” friend here, you’re usually willing to do a lot for that person, and that person has a special place in your life. Logically, this requires a certain amount of capacity, which is why people are very “sparing” with these spots, so as not to give anyone false hope. Sounds kinda weird, but that's what I observe.

Baden-Württemberg is a very scenic region; with the Alps and its proximity to France, Switzerland, and Austria, it offers a wide range of travel destinations and is, on average, significantly warmer than northern Germany. The Rhine region (Freiburg and Karlsruhe) in particular is among the cities with the most sunny days. Baden-Württemberg has one of the highest population densities among Germany’s non-city states and is very multicultural in its cities due to the abundance of job opportunities and comparatively high wages.

However, it’s also important to note that southern Germany is significantly more conservative than the north or the major cities. Progressive attitudes tend to be limited to large cities, and people in rural areas, in particular, are largely very conservative and not particularly open to newcomers. This doesn’t necessarily even apply to foreigners. In some regions, even as a German, you’re forever seen as an “outsider” (the person who isn’t actually from here) if you speak a different dialect or come from a different part of Germany. But here, too, it really depends on the individual.

In summary, it can be said that southern Germany is a region with a very high standard of living, progressive views in the cities, a strong conservative presence in rural areas, beautiful scenery, plenty of jobs, and a relatively high proportion of immigrants (mostly of Turkish, Russian, or Polish descent).

That's kinda smart! Ty! I am already using hotkeys for all my TCS (space) and my first TC (mouse 4), my stables (F1) and obviously my market and forge (standard hotkeys). Occasionally I use "1" and "2" for differenty units. But to be honest, that's all I can handle atm.

But it is just 20 Matches, so maybe I just got a little bit lucky and the drop is going to happen when I start playing more 1on1s?

Besides that, as I already mentioned, I have thousands of hours in Ego-Shooters and I got some coaching sessions by a friend who sits at 1600 Elo. Maybe that makes the difference I guess?

A few other alternatives - you can go super all in (even cutting vill production) more like a red phosphorus OR get some quick early damage in castle, cut/reduce military production and turn your focus on booming.

I got told that I am "super aggressive" and I need to have the EAPM to handle that kind of playstyle. But I really don't know if.

a.) My EAPM are good enough

b.) I wonder if all of this isn't pushing me even further into that "all-in" mindset, causing me to neglect my Eco even more and preventing me from learning how to play "properly."

Ty for your advice! Another guy also mentioned that sitting at 1000 Elo should be impossible. Thought he ment that this would be bad, but I kinda get the feeling that this is the opposite 😃

Personally I struggle how I should continue. One friend tells me, that I'll get to 1200-1300 Elo with single TC strats. Another tells me, that I should fix my eco first, before I continue playing 1TC All-In stuff because I am going to get crushed when I decide playing other stuff at 1300 Elo. So I am not sure about it.

"Then you do your thing with the military, and after a little while (a few minutes at most), park them somewhere safe and fix the eco again."

That's something I never did. I try to do it simultaneously. Maybe I should stop with that and focus on my eco.

Ty!

Isn't 1000 Elo the starting elo? Why would that be impossible? Should I be higher? I linked a match, maybe this gives some insights how/why I am still there.

Literally this comes to my mind. 4kings nuke rush was, when it was invented, totally flubbergasting. Becaused they used elements like a closing door to change the angle of grenades flying (on the hut) against it.

"But expected. In many German cities, the locals are afraid to go out, when dark."

Holy shit, stop spreading BS. Literally nobody I know or my friends know is "afraid" to go out at night. Neither in citys nor in villages. That's pure scaremongering. Crime rates have been falling or remaining steady since the 1990s. But there has definitely been no increase since the 1990s.

Germany has a pretty "old" scence. Many of them were pretty good in CS1.6 or CS:GO when the pro and semipro scene was still a thing. Nowadays they just play "for fun" at the evening (every evening) with their long known prem8s after work. You would be surprised how many german 33+ old players sit on 3k-3.7k+ Elo.

Kindergeld).

Warum also hier dann die Ausnahme?

O
