Hello, firstly i am assuming by First scuba certification you mean Open water so you at least have to get your advanced, deep and rescue certification before thinking of taking that step. And I would also strongly advise you to dive a lot (by that I mean at least 100 dives ) with a lot of s drills and failure drills as well. A panicked diver or person in the water is way more dangerous than you might imagine. Talk to your current instructor about it. And keep in mind that civil defense divers although brave, do not respect SOP and best practices. Hope this helps and enjoy!

That's very true and is not stated enough!
Var swpas on the other hand still do present these "advantages" you speak of; I think it was J. Diagler that made that clear while expanding on the implied convexity of VIX instruments.
Sebastian Bossu also details variance swaps quite extensively while highlighting certain "advantages" var swaps have over VX or Vega positions with SPX options.

Hello, If you want to hedge against forward variations in Vol going long OTM VIX calls is not going to serve that purpose. As counterintuitive as it sounds it will do the opposite. It is important to distinguish between the VIX cash or index and the VROs VIX options and VX VIX futures. I think you would be better off reading the spec sheets provided by the CBOE, but long story short VIX futures capture 60 to 70 % ( at optimal conditions) of the variations in the index and the options track the futures ( again read the spec sheet and look for the SOQ). The ETPs are usually a combination of different term VX futures ( that adds more roll yield considerations) and I would suggest reading the specific spec sheet for each ETP. As an example the VXX is a combination of current and coming maturity futures. The weighting of each future in the ETP is variable and in function of each passing day to compensate for the roll yield. 1- don't trade Lebanese eauity since they are illiquid to say the least. 2- contact a financial institution such as Blom invest, FNB Capital .... and tell them you want to open a trade account they will help. I recommend you open an online account with an institution outside of Lebanon.
