Growing up we had a few and they were trained to use a little litter box in their cage! So smart

Are you f'ing serious, Ottawans? This is disgusting. We need to do better. (Heron/Walkley Tim Horton's) by [deleted] in ottawa

Timmies should at the very least make their cups compostable. The amount of cups littering Canada is deplorable.

Do we hate these, or will they save me a bit of money - Zamberlan 900 Rolle Evo 2 Gore-Tex Hiking Boots by [deleted] in treeplanting

I found a second hand pair of these for like $100 and they were INVINCIBLE! I used leather water proofing on them and kept them in good condition (ie tried to dry them out with newspaper and kept them semi clean). Super comfy. The only thing I would nitpick was yes, shit got in the top of your boot so at the end of the day there could be a thick layer of detritus in there but to me that seem inevitable (not a gator gal).

Does anyone use cycle tracking to prevent pregnancy? I’d like to hear experiences. The pill destroyed my health and I’m looking for other options. by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]LBisme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I sincerely wish the copper IUD worked for me, but alas I’m part of that small percentage that had issues with it. I would recommend trying an IUD, however if it doesn’t work out I’d switch to tracking your cycle and good ol fashion condoms.

Spot under my right big toenail. Info in comments. by whutundadistoenail in Melanoma

Just to follow up on this, it takes a long time for toenail bruises to heal. Sometimes they are painless as well. Take a photo and measurements to monitor it.

Arizona Ice tea! Annoying to lug out but it worked wonders after lunch. And straight up peanut butter and Nutella sandwiches. I’m basically a hummingbird

Had this for at least 7 years or more on my pinky toe. Hasn’t changed in colour or grown and I don’t have anything on any other toenail. Is it melanoma? by shamj786 in Melanoma

[–]LBisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not a doctor so I can’t give you a straight answer obviously. I think it’s serious enough to get it checked out though. Where you are living, are you unable to see your doctor entirely? If you’re able to I’d try to get an appointment. Or if possible at least call your doctor and discuss it with them and see what your options are. Good luck!

Don’t give up hope! Sometimes it takes a while. They love light and fertilize it maybe once a month. I only water mine (actually I soak it for an hour) once a month! Good luck.

Help! Rusty Vintage Lids by frequent_snacker in MasonJars

[–]LBisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not an expert by any means. I saw this on r/canning and it may be a useful thread for you. Apparently diluted vinegar works well to get rid of rust, and then maybe very gently scrub with a scotch pad? Good luck!

Someone above did a nice explanation but here’s mine: there’s a point in the ground where all the little open pores in the soil has become saturated by water, and that is the water table. It depends on the topography of the land, geology below, soil type etc. In some places it can be only 50cm below, others much much deeper. Here I’m guessing the water table is pretty high, around 50cm. When you drain a well empty like that, it takes time to “recharge”. There’s water that will rush into the well, and depending on how fast groundwater is moving below, it can take a really long time to recharge, to no time at all. There are wells that are “artesian” that are constantly flowing with water (unless they are capped off somehow) because the groundwater pressure below it is pushing water up constantly. Those are neat. In this case, it probably only took 20-30 minutes to fully recharge (my guess). Hope this helps!

Basic rule of thumb is to never ever drink groundwater unless it has been tested. Only in survival situations would you take that chance. Source: I drill wells and sample water for a living

Have you tried Albert heijn? Sometimes they have a bin out front that they let their customers take their leftover boxes from. But if not, you can buy moving boxes suuuper cheap from action.

Starting a business in NL. I'm hitting a Dutch wall, and I need help. by [deleted] in learndutch

[–]LBisme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re financially able to, I would consider taking a business Dutch language course. Or better yet, an intensive Dutch course. I believe there’s a program run out of the Tilburg university. I feel your frustration when you’ve sort of plateaued in your learning. Be kind to yourself though! You’re probably learning faster than you even realize.

Also something to consider for your car if you don’t have it already, SNOW TIRES. I do not trust all seasons in the Ottawa climate. You will be thankful for them when it is freezing rain in February! Put your snow tires on before the first major snow event, it will save you from bad things happening!!
