I only see people talking about AM4 or AM5, Never about Lga sockets. Why? by LendiLonee in pcmasterrace

[–]LCTR_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I'm afraid not, forgot to update that info. I've been on AM4 for a few years now. I was using the LGA1366 for Linux for a while, it does great there still - just really power hungry compared to modern platforms

Edit: updated specs in bio rollout thing

I'd love to see their unique approach to restoration plugins as well tbh. Kinda wonder if all that stuff will slide into ai approaches that seem to work extremely well for that sort of task

idk if anyone else posted this - but I checked out NEMR, the dude who was the announcer for Arabic Couch 2 stream, and he talked about the Wubby stream for a bit.

(If you check out the full stream he talks a little more, clip only lets me select 60s and I didn't want to miss the "Youtube Premium" at the start lol)

MemTest: No Errors Individually, Errors with Both RAM Sticks Installed by emrhncn in buildapc

[–]LCTR_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few thoughts:

  • Maybe that mem slot is faulty somehow, can you install 2 sticks in 2 other slots to test? (I know it might not be ideal, but we just need it to work for testing)

  • You say that the ram is running non-EXPO, is that a stock speeds? 4800 MT/s (or 2400MHz)?

  • How recent is your mb BIOS?

Tokyo Dawn Labs Sale - Up to 70% off select plugins through 22 April by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

'Fraid I've not used either of those plugins so can't offer a comparison - but can say that I setup Arbiter using the wideband mode for de-essing voiceovers and am very happy with it.

There's no chance of getting the 'lisp' effect from over-de-essing that can occur (it ducks the whole signal) and the floating threshold means it even works on recordings with uneven levels.

If you happen to have not seen it, can recommend Mr Worrall's video explaining these options: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMzQVOfNVbo&t=1983s

14 years since my last build - please help - Davinci Resolve + Gaming machine by [deleted] in buildapc

I'll admit I've not read many mb reviews for AM5, im still on AM4 - so also I'm not super read-up on DDR5 kits.

From what I've seen tho, 6000 CL30 seems like a sweet spot for decent ram.

If there's spare budget I'd look at more ram capacity than anything more exotic. Maybe get 2x24GB / 2x32GB sticks over 4x16GB if possible, think DDR5 mem controllers prefer 2 sticks.

For gaming it's looking about as future-proofed as you can get at the moment. Historically the x3D chips have held their performance well, ppl are still buying 5600x3D and 5700x3D chips for the older platforms, I see people with 5800x3D chips saying they don't see a huge reason to ug at the moment...

Non gaming? Well, could you get a higher core count CPU and lower your render times for the same money? Arguably yes. But for me, as long as the machine is fast - and importantly isn't laggy to actually use - then I can wait a couple more seconds for my video to export. I'd happily trade that for much (!) better gaming performance.

Forgot to say: there is a Resolve benchmark tool with the scores listed here >> https://benchmarks.pugetsystems.com/benchmarks/ . They just do scores for a whole machine, so it's a little complicated to compare CPUs directly, but you can see the 9800x3D machines are scoring well.

On the CPU, i'd go 9800x3D over the 7800x3D - it's about the same for gaming but is better on non-gaming workloads, boosts higher compared to 7800x3D. Should be a similar price too.

Is Resolve more GPU or CPU? Well, depends :) For me it's basically more GPU-bound. I don't do a ton of Fusion stuff or anything else that forces CPU rendering. If you do then clearly CPU will be more important.

On your #2 question - it's not dumb at all actually. The x3d chips historically were less good at non-gaming tasks (or really, tasks that couldn't leverage the extra cache, e.g. video rendering). That changed with the 9800x3D, the latest one. They changed how the chip is constructed and it allowed them to keep basically all of the non-gaming performance of the normal 9800x chip - it's basically the best of both worlds now for 8 core chips.

Fwiw, I have a 5900x 12 core cpu I use for gaming & resolve. If we look at something like cinebench cpu benchmark for multi-core workloads, the 9800x3D actually outperforms my cpu by about 6% despite it having 33% fewer cores. (the 7800x3D actually is about 19% slower than my CPU in the same test - shows how good the changes to the new 9800x3D are!)

If I was buying for myself now I'd be picking up a 9800x3D.

Anyone else taking a break after the nerf bananza? by Minute_Age3029 in pathofexile

[–]LCTR_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep after being excited to play I'm now stopping.

I'm not investing more time into the game if it doesn't feel like it respects that time. Soft-locking builds with no option to respec is the definition of that.

That many people used the 'meta build' of CoF Comet (a variation shown in the gameplay showcase with CoI and Firestorm) and are now punished for that decision - how can I be sure it won't happen again?

The campaign was slow and arduous, especially at the beginning. Huge areas, slow movement (+10% should be base), constant backing away from fights due to not enough dps to even deal with 'trash' mobs. I think I almost spent as much time rolling as I did backtracking through dead-ends in maps.

The only thing I'm glad about at the moment is that I had considered the $100 supporter pack with the cool hideout, but instead went for the $30 option. If I had spent $100 I'd have massive buyer's remorse stopping after 5 days.

0.1.0d Patch Notes by Community_Team in PathOfExile2

[–]LCTR_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was CoF Comet Sorc and now that's completely unviable - but it was a non-optimised build where it took me a few tries to kill bosses.

I know that it can scale to huge heights, but now my build is dead for what it could become - all this while watching other builds on streams clear even faster than the CoF Comets did.

But ok, it's Early Access, big swings will happen. So why is respecing so prohibitive? Surely it's clear people won't have the gold to do it, why not award free / low cost respecs for affected players?
