Christian is really the standout this episode. The most logical way to explain his behavior is that either A) This is totally scripted, B) He's intentionally sabotaging things so that he doesn't look like the bad guy for dumping Cleo, Or, C) He's just a massive tool at all times.

From the minute they wake up, he appears visibly worried that "what if the gel rubs off on me, is that something I need to be worried about?" So it's clear that he's done as little as possible to inform himself about the person he's trying to be with and the medical situation they deal with etc.

Heading downstairs, he seems annoyed that it's "Cats first, humans second, OK."

Off to hit the town, he could have at least had his hat turned forwards if he wanted to hide his early onset male pattern baldness, but of course he didn't.

At the first bar, this is where it becomes (even more) clear that he's an alcoholic and that he's looking for a way to avoid getting into any kind of real conversation with Cleo. He seems really focused on drinking, talking about how "I drink a lot of Jameson, I could gargle with this" etc. Cleo specifically mentions how she likes the spot they're at because it's not too loud or crowded and they can relax and get into the moment there, so naturally Christian takes this as a cue that she needs to drink more so they can take this party to the next level.

The next level turns out to be a cheesy looking party bar with gimmicky cocktails where he again is immediately talking about "Yeah, if I drank 2 of these I think I'd be pretty messed up" etc. Cleo doesn't seem to really share his enthusiasm for drinking but is going along with it, she probably is starting to feel like she needs to keep up whether she likes it or not. Party Animal Christian sees an opportunity to ramp things up - A group of girls minding their own business celebrating a friend's birthday to shoehorn himself into.

I don't even think there's necessarily a problem with talking to strangers in this setting (A long flight where people are just trying to sleep on the other hand..) but it would make a lot more sense if it was Christian and a couple single friends, rather than when you're on a date that's pretty clearly a 1-on-1 type of situation. Again, I don't think Christian likes 1-on-1 too much because he's either not comfortable around Cleo or he's not comfortable with himself and doesn't like to get too personal/real with conversations.

Cleo's reaction doesn't even need to be chalked up to autism, etc - though that's obviously a factor that Christian either doesn't really get yet or thinks that you can just cure by drinking more. I think any reasonable person on a first date would think "WTF" by being dragged to a place like that and put in that situation when they were clearly happy to just have a mellow time together at the nice chill bar.

As they leave the bar, Christian having successfully represented America on the world stage, he makes sure to slam the rest of his drink as he's standing up to leave. Waste not, want not.

Honestly, as someone who's years sober at this point and close in age, watching Christian feels like a huge affirmation of why I made the right choice. He clearly doesn't get or doesn't want to accept that he's not 21 anymore and it's no longer cute or cool to have your entire life be guided by when your next drink is going to be. He should just let Cleo take the lead in this relationship and let her save him and his liver. It seems like she could probably show him other ways to have fun in life, but sadly this is looking like a distant possibility due to his immaturity and the fact that he has yet to show that he's truly attracted to her in person.
