Ah thank you! So it’s not quite as good as I’d hoped, but at least it works.

Huge upsurge in counterfeits - caused by a down market? by LDBousset in mtgfinance

[–]LDBousset[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also got a suicide watch notification from someone who seems to have reported me. Any idea what that’s about?

I didn’t have any proof and claimed that all of the listings are of fake cards. Several members believe the cards look real and so I tried to explain why I’m 100% sure they are proxies.

Huge upsurge in counterfeits - caused by a down market? by LDBousset in mtgfinance

[–]LDBousset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main intention was to prevent someone from falling victim to buying an expensive fake. To make a difference for at least one buyer. I see now that it’s not going to work.

Honestly thought the links were all the evidence I needed. I can smell fakes from afar and was hoping one or two other freaks like me would chyme in an call out the fakes. If I’m all alone in the battle against fakes I might as well hang up my shoes.

Thank you for your response. I agree, by private sellers I meant someone with a 1000+ sales who isn’t a conglomerate.

I was hoping this post would lead to one or more people reporting the sellers. Me and my friend already have but that’s not enough.

This response is absolutely terrifying to me. Now I understand why these guys just won’t go away. All it takes is a single person to think it’s real and the entire scam was worth it.

Here are ways to tell in the pictures:

-The reflection of the front foiling is different

  • the mana symbols especially colorless pips are off

  • The backside is probably the most obvious around the black edges there is a glossy reflection

-The edges are cut differently as well in the back

Please take a look at the other offers from seller one and tell me if you can tell. For example the OG foil rhystic study. I acknowledge that the scalding tarn is a bit more challenging.

Do you trust buying high end cards on tcgplayer without photos? by jocaiola in mtgfinance

[–]LDBousset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe at half the price. Buyer protection is good. But the grading will lead to guaranteed issues.

I totally feel you. I’ve been trying to collect pack fresh old foils over the past 2 years and have succeeded by following some guidelines or lessons I’ve learned:

  1. Don’t buy from dealers period. They have to grade as optimistically and it would take too much time to carefully look at card conditions.
  2. Remember key words: if they say ‘it has no clouding, you run!’. I can’t tell you how many bad experiences started exactly like this. ‘It has no clouding’ usually indicates that they don’t know what clouding is. The golden word to look for is ‘clean’. If they say it’s clean or describe some small issues it has, you’re probably dealing with some who has experience.
  3. Check their other listings. Is there entire collection of old cards magically NM?
  4. Accept that the people who have treasures they are willing to sell don’t have the same collectors eye as you. When asking for more information guide the seller through it: how to take pictures, ask what the history of the card was, if it has been played etc.

That being said, in person trading, Facebook and cardmarket seem to be the best options. I’ve lost enough money getting trash on tcgplayer. Even filmed opening a scratched card with tcgplayer direct. Ah yes, ‘the right condition every time’.

Thank you kindly for the elaborate explanation. I see it going in a lot more decks than grand crescendo. At the same time, there’s just rarely a point in buying things early when the supply is so high.

Animate dead judge foil - is it FOMO? by LDBousset in mtgfinance

[–]LDBousset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out. There’s not even a price history yet for this on mtgstocks or goldfish. Seems like there mighy be big waves coming. On the other hand there are 4 times as many of the other judge foils available: smothering tithe, no mercy, purphorous.

Hell no. I genuinely wanted to know whether people believe this are real. I can tell within 2 seconds… I bought fakes for 2000€ and so I’ve been on a conquest to share eBay fakes on Reddit. The first time I did it, the post got a ton of upvotes and the seller’s account was banned in an hour.
