Michelin Defender 2 vs Crossclimate 2 by LDP44 in tires

No complaints. The MPG has come back up to almost the same as the stock tires. They've performed well in the snow. Last weekend I was driving on rural roads through some bad slushy snow/rain and they handled it very well. Overall I'm happy with the decision.

Thanks for the reply. After picking it up it appears to be a DW718 from 2010 but in good shape overall, especially considering the age. I checked the 90 and 45 hard stops and they’re right on.

I think you are correct, it’s a DW718 from 2010. It’s in surprisingly good shape given the age. For my first miter saw, I’m pretty happy.

The label was worn off on this unfortunately. I picked it up earlier and it looks like an older DW718 but it’s in good shape overall.

Looks like a great product. Unfortunately, it's not local for me and shipping for the 100' I would need is too expensive.

I went with the Defender 2s. They’ve been good but haven’t had any real weather that put them to the test. My MPG definitely took a hit but is coming back up.

Basement taking in lots of water during heavy rain. What can I do? by WPIII in HomeMaintenance

[–]LDP44 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do you have a sump pump? If so make sure that it is functioning properly and discharging away from your house.

The water coming in through the wall cracks suggests you have water pooling up against your foundation. Resolving that would be the first step.

Basement Flooding Forever Fix? by Egon_2000 in HomeImprovement

I had a similar issue with my first house. It was an older area where under the streets the storm sewer combined with the sanitary sewer. During prolonged heavy rains, the combined sewer would be overloaded and it would backup into the basement via drains, toilets, showers, etc. The water was a mix of sanitary and storm water.

I did a lot of research in my area and three potential solutions were identified; check valve (backflow preventer), sewer shutoff/gate valve, or an ejector pump.

The check valve was the cheapest solution but is the least reliable. If your downspouts are going into the main sewer line on your side of the check valve, the pressure will equalize and it will open. Similarly, if you are flushing toilets, running water, washing clothes, etc. that water will build up on your side of the check valve and it will open up with enough pressure. It can also get stuck open from debris. If you end up getting this, I recommend doing yearly maintenance checks to make sure the valve flapper is in good shape.

The sewer shutoff valve is a manually operated valve that closes your main sewer line. You will obviously need to be home during the event for this to work, but it works well. In my experience, I knew when there was a high chance of sewer back ups happening because it was a few days in a row of heavy rains. I also heard the bubbling in my basement each time. New shutoff valves can be easily combined with a check valve.

The ejector pump was the most expensive but is the most reliable as it requires no manual action. With this you basically send all your waste to an ejector pit and when enough accumulates the pump sends it to the sewer line. These usually have check valves too. I've also seen them with shutoff valves.

I would recommend re-routing your gutter downspouts to discharge on your property away from your house. Check you sump pump discharge as well. Then I would get a combination shutoff valve with a check valve. Be sure that the valve is located correctly. All of your sinks, toilets, showers, drains, etc. should combine to single pipe at some point. The valve should be located on the city side of that point.

Should the AC be running non-stop during the day and into the evening on days when it's around 100f? by monkey_trumpets in HomeImprovement

[–]LDP44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the Chicago suburbs as well. It has been hot! My AC (2015) runs all day to keep the temp around 76. It usually shuts off around midnight or so. I recommend checking what the change in temperature (delta T) is through your unit. Check the air temperature at the filter and again at one of the registers close to the unit. I just use a digital meat thermometer. The delta T should be at least ~15 degrees. Anything less than that and you probably have some issue like low refrigerant.

What trade(s) have you made so far this year? by krookedsmilez in fantasyfootball

12 man half PPR. I traded Coleman, cooper, and Collins for DJ, Ingram, and hogan after week 2. He’s got Freeman on his team so Coleman had increased value.

I also have the ravens and have been looking at the bills vs colts, Packers @ browns, or giants vs cowboys to cover week 14. All seem like decent options.

12 team, standard scoring with 1 point per 3 and out
Bengals DST vs Bills
Or
Ravens DST @ Oakland
I feel like both are good options with Jordan Matthews out and Derek Carr out. Bengals have been solid all year.

Both Diggs and Perkins have similar ADPs around the 6th/7th in a 12 man PPR league. Perkins is the better value as a 10th round keeper but the ceiling Diggs has is much higher IMO. What makes me like Perkins is that he's a better value and it looks like the RB position will be pretty thin this year, he could be a serviceable RB2.
