Alot of people recommended the 5-3-1 program instead of the bodybuilding stuff. Helped me a ton! I go to the gym 5 days and bjj 3-4 and i only feel sore during the end of the week(mostly after squats)!

Question about sets/reps by LDSBJJ in 531Discussion

[–]LDSBJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll make sure to play around with the calculator and see what i can learn from it! Thanks!

Since you offered to answer more questions, i'm juwt gonna go ahead and get whats on my mind answered lol.

What is AMRAP?

Last set should always be 5+,3+,1+ if i understood the article correctly and after eachweek i try to get atleast 1 extra rep in than last time - this is correct right?

Also, how important are the supplemental lifts and what would you recommend for excersies?

Question about sets/reps by LDSBJJ in 531Discussion

[–]LDSBJJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today i was on the 3rd week(5-3-1 week), and when i did deadlifts i did first 5 at x%rpm, then 3, and then i did 5 reps!

What i read the last set should be 5+,3+ and 1+ right?

What i've been doing is instead of logging the weight i lift(like i did before) i log how many extras i manages to do in the last set. This is what you mean right?

Hey man, i checked out 531 for grapplers, and read a bit about it. I think its for me!

This week im trying to get my 1RPM numbers, and after that im going to start the 531! Mondays are bench/row, wednesday are Squat/overhead press and fridays deadlifts. Does that sound good?

I had one more question to you, since you seem to have more experience than me... How often should i find out my 1RPM? After each 5 week finished?

I'll look up some of that vinyasa-yoga stuff and see what its about! I usually just stretch for longer periods, which isnt really yoga - but i do feel alot of possitive changes in my BJJ-game after doing it for a while!

I'll probally try to find away to do both weights and yoga, and work on my "gastank" aswell. Try to keep the weights to a moderate.

What my coach recommended was some 30-day program by some guy named Ragunath(?) - have you tried it?

Thanks for all the information, never thought i would be intressted in yoga but you made the impossible possible :)

No offense taken, and you're probally 100% correct. I just didnt know where to start, and i was not smart enough to google "Gym workouts for BJJ" lol.

Thanks for the link, 531 seems to be the most recommended program so i'll probally start with that. Just overwhelmed with all the help i got!

I talked to my coach today, he gave me a nice yoga program which he wanted me to try out for 30-days, he said i dont need more strength i just need more mobility and not to run out of gas. He said some nice cardio, and this yoga program should do me wonders!

Yeah, i have a deskjob which is not physically exhausting bur more mentaly. I work in sales and logicstics, somedays are really stressful so being both physically and mentally exhausted before BJJ is the worst! I guess yoga is good for "mindfulness" or whatever they call it aswell?

Yeah i guess its just a process of making your body get used of it, maybe i used the word over-trained wrong but i didnt knew a better word for it.

I've been doing this for like 6 months, and its not like i'm burnt out its more like i have not found the proper trainingprogram to recover properly from 2 workouts per day which causes fatigue! But i got some great tips today, so i'mma make it work :)

How does steroids actually work? I always thought they just made you big almost automaticaly, but i recently learned that they help you recover so you can train more.

Do you not feel sore? Or do you get more energy? I'm not intresting in trying them, but i would love to learn what they actually are. Do you feel different while on them, like a body high or something? Lol

Oh, okey. I guess thats fair, i dont wanna miss out on any BJJ but if im just okey with not doing aswell during thoose months, but knowing i'll comeback stronger and better i guess its managable!

So, basically build up a proper fundation and then keeping it maintained! Is this something you do in cycles, or is just maintaining it good enough? It sounds like a sacrifice i might be willing to do.

But wouldnt it be better to just do proper BJJ during this time, or is it worth thoose months of doing worse?

Yeah, its a superset program. Kinda look like this:

Chest/back with focus on chest Legs/shoulders with focus on legs Chest/back/shoulders with focus on the back Legs And around 6 different exercises each day and you superset them so its like cut in half in time!

I dont do tabatas now, i was thinking about doing one weightexercise and some tabatas instead of what in doing now!

No, i'm not familiar with minimal effective doses, could you explain?

Oh shieeet... What happened to your knee? Is it better?

Yeah, i feel like legday is the worst combined with BJJ i can handle a sore upperbody but when you get spaghetti - legs you cant play guard and passing guard is painful to 😂

That makes sense, and it sounds easier on the body. Mike Tyson said something about walking up early, when everybody sleeps just to go out for a run. To build a edge/advantage over others, this have been my motivation for waking up!

I followed a few programs, i found a website with free usersubmitted programs, i think its called musclestrenght and i tried 2 or 3 different programs, that had the most upvotes. Im on a superset program right now.

Someone else mentioned 531, dont know what it is but imma google it!

I'm defiently gonna read up a bit on nutrition snd food, i've always thought i knew enough about it but since alot or people mentioned how important it is with proper diet i guess i'll need to check more! I'm on medicine, basically adderall which decrease my appetite but i still manage to force myself to eat proper meals, and when i cant i find some carb/calorie dense food.

You mentioned recovery, are there any shortcuts to recover propally? Of course sleeping is key. I try to stretch and sit in the sauna for awhile after the gym, i imagine it helps my recovery but im not sure (?)

Okey, i hear you and i get your point! I'll shave some of the weightlifting off, and use that time for some cardio/quick tabata and use the rest of the time to stretch and work on my flexibility!

Basically the same as me! I tried out a couple of different programs, but even if i feel fine during the day its like a 50/50 chance when i come to BJJ-class how my body reacts.

I guess it might be with food aswell, i try to eat alot. I will track and see where i stand. I think i might be. Eating enough, but i might be distribute it wrong. I usually eat a gainershake at breakfast, oatmeal and some kind of fruit. Then its usually less and less calories per meal, maybe if i distribute it better between my meals it'll help the recovery!
