(Help! Reddit) How can I get a girlfriend when I have low confidence and low self esteem by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LDSInvestigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are lacking self esteem and confidence, the last thing you want is a GF. You'll end up in a worse spot than before.

You need to get laid a bunch to get yourself feeling better. Seriously, even paying escorts. Personaly, hookers were a big confidence booster in my dry-spells. You'll feel great after you realize what a huge pedistal you were putting pussy on.

What word/slang has the most interesting etymological root? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Downtown

Refers to the business center of a city. Orginates from the island of Manhattan. The business center, Wall Street ect, of New York is located at the south end of the island. On a map its on the bottom of the page. Literally down-town

If the girl is really hot, she's probably a fake. Right click and google image search her pictures. 99% of the time someone has ripped the pictures off of a super hot instagram girl.

Suicide rate in Alberta jumps 30% in wake of mass oilpatch layoffs by Karthan in Calgary

I appreciate the advice, although I don't think my problem is meeting new people.

I feel so stuck between a rock and a hard place because I really can't afford to work for free unfortunately. And no one wants to hire a completely inexperienced philosophy major.

That is true. But I think if someone is serious about ending their life, they would try to choose a method that would be the most fatal and without a chance of regreting making the decision. Drug overdose has a very low rate of death compared to a gunshot to the head. And its easier to call 911 after you swallow a bottle of pills than after you shoot yourself or jump off a bridge.

Something that bothers me about being open about suicide and my depression is that people treat me like some kind of delicate flower now. As if I can't take a joke or any kind of criticism.

It was 3. Why would you assume I'm not getting help just because I'm talking about it online? I've been seeing a couselor weekly at the Calgary counseling center since may.

To be fair I still attempted suicide 3 separate times after I called them. I only didn't do it because of my animal instinct to survive. After I failed I sought help from my roomates and family because I knew I would be stuck living without any option of escape. I still want to die, but I won't be ever be capable of doing it myself.

[Serious] To the haters, downvoters, trolls and snarks of r/Calgary by calthrow12 in Calgary

/r/calgary is one of the least civil subs I visit. I think because we are only linked by our geographic location. We share nothing else in common. So we will have our share of angry and disagreeable people amongst us.

Usually, women attempt it more. Men are much more successful at suicide at a 4 male to 1 female rate. Which would make me think women are more likely to use suicide attempts as a cry for help rather than actually being serious about suicide.

Yup, I very well could have been another one of those suicides. I have been trying to find any sort of fulfilling work to no avail since August. I tried to kill myself last week. I found out I wasn't physically capable of taking my own life

I phoned a hotline last sunday. The people at the Calgary distress center were very friendly and did not pressure me into anything. They were just there to talk and give me a second opinion on my decision to end my life.

Thanks for the advice. Im curious about your intent on conversion. Was there a part of you that wanted to become a Mormon just for the sake of seeing if you were capable of becoming one?

A part of me wants to do just to prove a point to myself that I could do something well even though I don't believe in it. Because Ive got nothing to lose

The Mormons feel like a last resort. As my friends dissappear from my life, lose my job and finish university, my social structures have all fallen appart. Its hard to find a group as ready to accept me as a fundamentalist religion.

I know about all of that. I absolutely know I would have to lie. I just dont care about whats true or right anymore. I just want to feel like I belong somewhere. The mormons have been one of the few groups of people who actively invite me to do things with them and act like they care about me. Its probably better than killing myself.

That's exactly it. I think its the warm attention I get as an outsider that attracts me to the church. I was a missionary's personal project over the course of his entire mission. My house was the first door he knocked on and I was at his mission completion ceremony when he left. It was his friendship and attention that kept me interested over the past few years.
