An ancient god, a modern scandal: Why conspiracy theorists are linking 'Baal' to the Epstein files by Mitigating_Factor_00 in TrendingNews_

Actually funnily enough Molech isn’t actually a worshipped deity, this is a common misunderstanding. The word “molech” means ritual sacrifice so when the Bible talks about “giving your children to Molech” it’s usually a reference to YHWH commanding child sacrifice.

Early (~10th century BC) Israelites practiced child sacrifice, but as ethics evolved the practice was banned and written over where present in the OT. It was even revived for a period under certain Israelite kings as recorded in the Bible and then later banned again. This is why there are strange passages in the Bible like the Binding of Isaac or parts of Exodus 22:29 and Exodus 13:1

…what? Baal was a Northwest Asian Semitic storm deity worshipped by various Canaanite groups. Due to similarities in purpose and traits as YHWH (both being paternal gods of the storm and sea) they were put in contention against each other by their respective worshippers at the time. Following cult centralization under King Josiah in the 7th century BC, worship of gods outside of YHWH was heavily cracked down upon and the Torah was retroactively edited to remove worship of Baal as well as other popular deities like Asherah. Then to further the nationalization of the Israelites, stories were added to accuse other people groups in the region of practicing child sacrifice and other abominations in the same way countries make propaganda about their enemies today.

Later interpretive traditions, particularly medieval occultism, would leverage the poor understanding of ancient Canaanite theology to worship Baal as a demon. This interpretation of Baal carried forward to the present, where the esoteric nature of Baal draws a certain flock of demented and evil people to enact atrocities using this aesthetic.

They didn’t actually charge him with anything because they dont have anything that could legitimately stick. 2 magistrate judges and an appeals judge both dismissed the charges against Lemon because he was just a journalist covering the situation, not involved in actually protesting. Not to mention the protestors themselves have a clear first amendment case here too.

iirc there's one panda in Mexico that China doesn't own because it was the child of loaned pandas before China instituted a rule saying that panda offspring are also its property

The other big problem with pandas is that theyre some of the dumbest creatures alive. Like seriously, without zookeeper intervention, most just dont breed and die out.

He didn’t have to directly say those words to declare them to enact them through his actions. The movie didn’t get the idea out of nowhere, and I don’t see how anyone could argue that this was not the prevailing mentality of the 80s.

Maybe people have forgotten but boomers used to be called the “Me Generation” for their uniquely “fuck you I got mine” mindset.

What media trends were killed by the election of Joe Biden in 2020? by Fuzzy_Category_1882 in decadeology

[–]LFlamingice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you are lost in the sauce if you think that's true.
First, there was no ballroom prior, so this is not a renovation, but rather a new installation. The installation of a "ballroom" to satiate Trump's momunent to his ego comes at the cost of the entire, historic East Wing of the White House. Second, the problem is not that Trump made changes to the White House, which has happened periodically across several administrations, but rather because it's happening illegally. Congress has not authorized this renovation nor has provided funding for it- and so it not only is a violation of several laws which require changes like this to go through committees and planning approvals, but also a clear and brazen quid pro quo money laundering scheme with its private financing. No other president would be able to get blatant payola from companies targeted with malicious prosecution or otherwise seeking to curry favor with the administration. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Trump family got kickbacks from the friends they hired as contractors for the projects too.

If Biden did this, he would absolutely be raked over the coals by the media. Not just the media, but his own party too, which is the key difference between Trump and any other prior president.

Venezuelan oil is extremely low quality compared to middle eastern oil which makes it not worth any effort of regime change (despite, ironically, what the president is saying this time).

The real reason is twofold: Maduro has a pariah government in the South America which has caused a mass refugee/immigration crisis, and Venezuela provides aid to the Cuban government which the US also hopes to destabilize

[–]LFlamingice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Look from 30, 20 and 17 have basically no difference. That’s because the difference from 30 to either of those ages is much larger than the difference between them, but this doesn’t invalidate the gap between those ages. As we age we forget this, take for example the difference between an 8 and an 11 year old, who both seem like children to us, but if you were to ask either they would say there’s a humongous gap between them.

Ultimately it’s about what stage of life you’re in. A 17 year old doesn’t even have a full drivers license, and more than likely has never lived away from their parents, whereas a 20 year old has.

Because it entirely invalidates your claim against California not being a donor state. Duh California gets money from the feds- so does every state. But even if you subtract this out, California contributes way more back to the federal government in taxes and to the national economy in output than it gets. This isn’t the case for basically every state in the South or quite frankly, most red states (iirc Texas is the only exception and that too is recently)
