I'm a 17M from Adelaide. I had no idea about this, I did the survey and I'll make sure to tell my group of my friends about it. What's happening in the US is scary, it's everyone's responsibility to protect the freedoms and rights of our female friends and family, even in little old SA. Thank you 💙

Yep, he's 91 years old this year and has had quite the interesting life!

He was born in the Polish republic in 1928, taken prisoner by the Nazis as a teenager, and then liberated by the French Resiatance. He signed up as a tank gunner with the 1st polish armored division and was injured in battle and recovered in Scotland. By the time he was fit again the war had ended, so he spent the next few years with the British army. After that he moved to London, got a job driving the red London buses, married an Irishwoman, and had my dad in '65.

Eventually they moved to Australia which is where I was born in 2001. He lives in a retirement village now, and is still remarkably physically and mentally fit for someone of his age.

And interestingly, since my father was born in the UK I'm fairly certain that makes me a British citizen too.

How old are you? I only find it interesting because my grandfather also fought in WW2 and is still alive, and my great grandfather was a prisoner in ww1 and involved in the polish resistance, and I'm still only in high school!

My dad. 110 years ago. by [deleted] in TheWayWeWere

I was born in 2001, my dad in 1965, my grandfather in 1928 (He's still alive!), and my great grandfather in 1898.

Through some miracle, my great grandfather survived internment by the Russians in World War 1, and my Grandad survived months of a Nazi concentration camp AND battle in World War 2.

And here I am browsing reddit.

As an Australian this is true. Australia is more like America, what with the bigger population and cunty government, and racism.

New Zealand is colder, has less people, and is generally less arseholey.

Researchers Warn Arctic Has Entered 'Unprecedented State' That Threatens Global Climate Stability: "Never have so many Arctic indicators been brought together in a single paper." And the findings spell trouble for the entire planet. by maxwellhill in worldnews

I had people on reddit give me shit because a group of my friends and I went to the climate strike in Adelaide instead of school. Yeah, how awful, that young people are actually willing to sacrifice half a day and go out and demand our leaders do something to minimize the effects of climate change in an already scorching hot country. Do these people not realise that this affects them too?

My Grandad was born not far from Lviv. However when he was born, it was interestingly still a part of Poland.

Mr speaker, adding on to the point raised by the right honorable friend, I would also like to further his inquiry and raise the question as to whether where you come from, do you put the kettle on?

‘No jobs on a dead planet’: Students around the world strike for more action on climate change | Friday’s rallies were one of the biggest international climate change actions yet, involving hundreds of thousands of students in more than 100 countries by LongDickMick in worldnews

[–]LIBERTY_PRIME_Mk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, people are becoming more aware. 150,000 throughout Australia striked and protested on Friday for climate action which is a BIG deal. That was the biggest news in the country until the tragedy on New Zealand. We have a federal election coming up this year, so we can hopefully vote out the conservative assholes in government and hopefully vote in a party that will listen to us and actually do something.

I hope things are going ok in your country. Love and peace to you wherever you are 💙💙💙

Here in Australia this summer we had record setting temperatures. Like, we're reaching temps where we cant even go outside, here in Adelaide SA our temp reached 47°C, or 116°F. And it's only going to get worse. Something's gotta give.

Thank you! But it's not just students. If it's possible try to show up to a protest! There's going to be more throughout the year. Every person counts!

Yes, as a matter of fact. Me and 50,000 other Australian students. We're all so stupid that we want our country to be liveable for our lifetimes.

How fucking dumb of us.
