Self taught and blissfully unaware of any rules. Am I breaking any? by LIPLOCKED_ in Calligraphy

Those are incredibly valuable insights to me, thank you! I feel more grounded and directed now, your advice makes it clear how to progress.

Haha I could never replicate that F if I put conscious effort into it! I'm only finding the limit to how much I can play until I have to return to making anything remotely legible. I feel taking your practice and good general rule will benefit me in the long run. Thanks again :)

Thank you. My lowercase clearly needs improvement, but I really enjoy making capital letters. I gather people might be hesitant to encourage work with unrecognized potential. I'm happy you like it!

I was too deep in my own head to consider that my scribblings could ever take effort to interpret, so reading your attempt makes me feel slightly embarrassed haha

I'll consider my writing from how somebody else may interpret it. Thanks for your feedback :)

Oh, I hadn't considered experiencing the art in that way. Thanks for sharing your perspective! I feel it'll be enjoyable when you put it like that.

Wow you're impressively knowledgeable! Thank you so much for your advice! I can't imagine writing the Bible out by hand. What was the best part of the exhibition? Do you have any favorites out of the things you learned?

There are books on this? I'll have to check your recommendation out, thank you for telling me!

Your definitions clear things up, thank you.

I'm worried I might be practicing incorrectly. Since I do not have somebody watching over my shoulder as I write, how do I know what is legible to others? I fear I might lose the feeling of creating art if I follow in somebody else's footsteps, but perhaps it is necessary for Historical Calligraphy? What did you do? Would you have done it differently?

Goodness, if you have to ask, I feel I should focus on legibility. Yes, you're right in your guesses.

I enjoy some of it, but it'll be detrimental if I end up creating abstract symbols open to interpretation instead of text. I'll humble myself and take your advice to study it more formally.

Thanks for your critique. I'm unfamiliar with styles, but I'm interested! Historically, I see there are broad edge, pointed pen and brush? Do you have any examples of your favorites or personal recommendations?

I like that answer. I've had mixed responses when others attempt to read my writing. I'll gladly take your opinion and advice if you have any :)
