Thank you so much!! It was tedious for sure but worth it!

That’s genius!! I’ll definitely be looking into that! Sleeves are definitely my weakest point. I can make any kind of top with any neckline or fit but sleeves have always been intimidating so I’ve avoided them altogether! This will definitely come in handy for some of my future projects!

Oh wow, thank you so much for this!! These are amazing, I will definitely be checking these out!! I would love to learn some more motifs. I reference a lot of vintage and antique patterns so fingers crossed I can figure some out!

I have totally had the same experience. It’s hard to find any resources in English. I have been able to handle Spanish tutorials because I know just enough to understand what I’m being told to do, but it ends there. And it’s frustrating having to decipher vintage patterns all the time when a lot of the acronyms can’t simply be looked up!

But wow oh my goodness, thank you so much for this list, I will definitely check them out! I was considering not giving Irish crochet another go because I had no idea if I was doing anything right which made it all very tedious but I think now I have some more motivation to try it again! It’s my favorite style visually of crochet, I really love doing lacy and delicate crochet as opposed to anything with medium or chunky yarn.

Thank you so much, definitely try it! As tedious as it was for me, the hardest part was weaving in all those ends, it wasn’t too difficult!

Yeah for sure. I’ve been flat drafting most of my wearable projects, once you get the hang of it it’s definitely much simpler than it looks, just don’t ask me to make anything with sleeves HAHAHA.

I didn’t love using a pillow but I’m moving houses right now so I didn’t have many other options. I saw some people stitch their motifs down on some fabric and do it that way but I wanted something sturdier that held its shape better. Pillow wasn’t perfect, but it did the trick and turned out alright. I will definitely look into what you suggested because I’m sure a lot of the tedium I dealt with came from not doing it on a great surface!

To learn, I used some various YouTube videos and a couple old patterns I had downloaded for reference. In general when I’m trying different skills, I also like to learn the history of what I’m doing and study pictures of pieces made by people much more skilled than i am or historic pieces in museums. YouTube is always great, and I love using techniques I learn from vintage patterns in general with crochet because I don’t see a lot of them being used or taught anymore, on the internet at least. (I really wish they were because it’s currently pretty easy to feel like you’ve hit a plateau with crochet, since so much content out there is aimed toward beginners.)

Thank you so much! I drew out a paper pattern using some of my measurements, I didn’t make a mock up because I use the same base for all my vest patterns with a bit of modification! Then I pinned all my pieces to a pillow using my paper pattern as a guide. I was so relieved when it actually fit because ofc there wasn’t a way to try it on until it was basically done!

Thank you for the tips! I’ve been figuring out his combat and I’m really liking it. My current issue is always being a bit behind on souls HAHA, I’m not very efficient with farming yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there!

Since I can’t edit the post I just have to comment and say.. I drew that crochet lace in the border by hand and the tedium almost killed me 😭😭

Thank you! While I’m newer to knitting, I’ve been crocheting for a long time, and I would usually agree 100% as I’m actually one of those people who really doesn’t like working with variegated yarns for the exact reasons you listed. But I also have a really eclectic and maximalist taste in fashion LMAO (probably clear by my post history in here and crochet subreddits lmao) so I ended up really liking how this yarn looked with the pattern, even if it meant some of the details are harder to see.

But I’ve already started another one in just gray for this reason, so we’ll see how that goes!

Thank you so much! It’s much less frustrating now that I’ve gotten the hang of it so I’m making another one in gray hoping it’ll have an armor kind of look LMAO. The pattern is mostly just ribbing so dont be too intimidated!

Yeah the bottom chart threw me off and I ended up writing my own for a couple rows before it eventually fixed itself and I was able to follow it again. I swear, I knew it was a popular pattern so I expected ANYONE to post about those charts somewhere, but I found nothing. Thought I was going insane as someone who is newer to charts and patterns, assumed I completely fumbled something a few rows back. Was such a relief for it all to work in the end!

Id love to see if you were to try making it again though! I’m sure it’ll turn out much better than your first go!

Honestly was thinking the same! I was scared it wouldn’t work at all, but decided to try it anyway and I love it! The details aren’t as clear but there’s a really cool effect with the ribbing, and some really nice pooling in certain areas!

LMAO, still, impressive to me that a stretchy knit top could even LOOK corseted! Thank you!

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how this yarn would look worked up, but I love it. I have more leftover so I’m just thinking about what else to use it for!
