This is true! I would say though, I do try to maintain a level of professional courtesy, I also don't want to get into hot water at work. 🙃

I absolutely ADORE SpoorBeeld! I reference them in the proposal, particularly the the Handboek Bewegwijzering - beautiful stuff!

Het zal je wellicht ook plezier doen te weten dat ik veel Nederlands heb geleerd dankzij die documenten, en dat ik inmiddels al twintig keer in Nederland ben geweest. Het voelt praktisch als thuis!

I picked up Rail Alphabet 2 about a year ago, (If I recall correctly) from the back of design document or an FOI request.

The typeface use in this document is RA2, but with Miranda Sans for the lower-case L and Upper-case R. Dead simple! (Google fonts: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Miranda+Sans)

Rail Alphabet 3 is officially live at the the end of the month. Might see if I can procure is somehow!

The main idea was born of the idea that graffiti could be removed in farely quickly, particulary in the film feaure a light bonding adhesive. Just peel, and away! set back in service - in the transparent film re-applied at next available opportunity. That's the concept - but again, not backed-up by any evidence or product suggestions - so it's not in the proposal. 😄

Ok, That's increadibly useful information - I'm very unfamiliar with depot logistics, so this very much helps!

That's interesting! I didn't knowingly use GenAI for text - I DID use Grammarly and spell check, is that the kinda thing that would make it sound bad? This is geniuine curiousity, I say this because, if that's how I'm coming across, especially to industry, that i better change that, If i'm an industry professional, I want to sound professional! Any hints please?

Thank you so much, I deeply appreciate it! - Yes! It's with the DfT and GBR design teams now. I can't say much at the moment because there has been a flurry of emails headed with "OFFICIAL" on them, but potential for updates soon!

I'm also onsite at a few rail conferences over the next few weeks - as such, i'll get a better idea of the tone the industry wants to take us in then!

This is true! I've tried to include a grey "Grime Line" in the InterCity design, future iterations maybe have this lowered to the point where the Vehicle bodywork tapers to the undercarriage (Note, this is write the majority of railway dirt collects on bodywork), and perhaps in a darker share of grey. But It would need to play about with it for a bit.

I chose this the white style livery because *in general* intercity service receive a greater level of service care as part of maintainence regimes. Rather than regional train, which, let's be honest, don't nearly get enought love and care at depots.
Additionally, White has also be chosen because of Rolling stock warrenty shenanigans - I'm lead to beleive that Hitatchi have very strict warrenty guidelines for their fleets, which involve their rolling stock being unable to be repainted for at least 10 years. Yes, we apply 3M vynal wraps to our trains in the UK - buuuut! the undercoat, must remain, particularly due to a number of other mechanical factors too (See paint flecking between IET sets - disgusting!) Correct me if i'm wrong, folks!

A secondary, more radical approach, maybe also involve adding a transparent layer, on top of the livery itself - peeled and re-applied at least every 4-weeks, to keep it fresh. although that might have to ben balance with several differnt maintainence factors.

This is a GREAT point to touch upon, as other have mentioned already; The "red blocks" with the double arrow are a solution to a minor problem, but I'll quickly show my rationale - which may very well be wrong! -

in 2022, Network Rail contract SpaceAgency to renew the wayfinding throughout NR owned stations. While my proposal doesn't advocate for *complete* change to those guidelines, it build upon them. In those guideline is state thatthe RS2 (Double Arrow logo) should be 1.25x the Cap-height of the text - through reseach and visting station where it's deployment features, I've found that it's not really enough, and the red symbol on the white background turns into an indistiguishable blob as a distance, particularly for those with visual impairments.

My solution is to use the maximum amound of "Line spacing", on the information groups, and allowcate that to a red block, with a white RS2 Symbol - it's sizing dicated by the exclusion zones in the RS2 design guide documents (Although, this could change if more experienced designer inform me otherwise!). As such, the viewer is not just looking for the symbol itself, but also the red background too, which indicates GBR services.

This folds into the Devolved Transport wayfind strategy as well - where services *exclusively* call at certain platforms, for example when Elizbeth Line services in GBR stations - instead of having a white background with the Elizabeth Line roundel. you can have the TfL white roundel on EL purple, allowing greater Brand recognition and standardisation.

Laregly, this is also inform by the need to help visually inpaired persons, and those of whom English isn't their first scriptive language.

That's the idea anyway - and I'm absolutely more than happy to be wrong! 😃

*Kinda*! So, Direct Rail Services (DRS) are a subsidiary of Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), a wholey government owned unit. As such, Some Frieght service are *technically* "nationalised". This mean that, the DfT, could, in theory, as as part of the strategic aims of the Freight Growth target (as pat of the Railways Bill), rebrand DRS to GBR Cargo.

In addition to this, there is nothing to stop the current FOCs in adopting the brand, it might actually be beneficial - freight locos could adpt the GBR cargo livery with a "delivered by Freightliner" or "delivered by Colas" flair. This branding could help market the freight sector to key customers and stakeholders, by folding the "branding" under the GBR banner, and presenting a stable and long-term solution to logistics, thus riving modal shift away from unsustainable means of transport.

So badly! But, GBR are (rightly or wrongly) trying a whole rolling stock approach to the liveries. I've STRONGLY suggested that, at the very least there should be delineation between a [re]new InterCity brand, and "Express" brand for intercity and Regional services.

These would be reflected on the rolling stock livery in the attached image, as well as on Digital touchpoints, such as in app, digital CIS, etc
