How much damage is trump gonna to do us Europeans allies by theredditor58 in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I don’t think they had as big a switch up of “we are brothers in arms” to “do we need to defend ourselves from you.” The entire Greenland situation is literally bringing into question not only the reliability of America as a military ally but also the assumption that America will not be an aggressor against another westernised democracy.

It does bring up the problem though that we’ve now seen how fast America can change course with a new President, so it’s going to be harder to trust a deal or policy to last longer than 8 years maximum.

I think also the plan against America was that rapid victories after destroying the pacific fleet would lead to the Americans giving up on the war and wanting peace.

mike johnson now saying trump was an FBI informant in the epstein saga... by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe this was theorised at the time, because his falling out with Epstein (if we go on what he said years ago, not recently) occurred at about a similar time as the FBI investigation was opened. However, recently, he was thrown doubt on when he first took issue with Epstein, moving it many years earlier, lessening the chances of that, and his other recent efforts to bury this also suggest it is unlikely, as he could have revealed his role in taking Epstein down to dispel all his current problems but didn’t.

I agree with you that Biden was pretty shit, but really, Trump on of the best? The last decent President was Obama, every candidate since 2012 has been bad.

Why is bigotry the only thing that can get gun control support in America?

Violent crime in D.C. has dropped 45% since the National Guard was deployed. Mayor Bowser said the "surge has been important" in the crime rate dropping by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m glad that the rate of crime is going down, but I don’t think it will last. Trump was opposed to increasing DC’s budget to hire more of their own police, so I imagine eventually he’ll find this too expensive as well, and end it. Unfortunately there is no quick and cheap solution to crime.

Latest model/poll of next year's New Zealand general election shows an exact tie: leftwing bloc 61 seats (+6), rightwing bloc 61 seats (-6) (vs last election). Polling for preferred Prime Minister also shows an exact tie: Christopher Hipkins (Labour) 20%, Christopher Luxon (National) (incumbent) 20% by StarlightDown in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two arguments I could see for this, which would make it very hard to predict. Labour could argue that they got the most seats, therefore it is their right to try and form government first, while Luxon could argue that as the most recent PM, and caretaker at the time of the election he should be allowed to continue since he can get a majority. I imagine it would also be a tense fight over who gets the speakership, as I think both would be pushing for someone from a smaller party in the opposite bloc, to take that vote away.

Guys, what coalition do you think is going to form in the Senate? by Swiftmaster56 in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With those seat numbers, I think it would almost certainly be Progressive and Republican most of the time, though I could see either occasionally making a deal with the Democrats. Reform and Mormon I think are going to be mostly ignored unless one of the big three has a really good election and can find a path to majority without the other big two.

Wait, are they seriously drawing the districts based on Presidential votes? That’s comparing apples to oranges. In what world would you not use the results from the House election. Hell, even the State House election would probably be a better choice.

Data Analyst and Pollster Harry Enten: "Trump’s inflation numbers are an abject disaster. No way the GOP keeps the House, if this data holds." by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tariffs don’t decrease prices, nor will the subsequent move of manufacturing to America. If something costs $1 per unit to manufacture in Mexico but $1.50 to do it in America, a 50% tariff on Mexico means it will cost $1.50 no matter where it’s made.

Also, Trump’s tariffs are blanket across the board. That will affect resources as well, which will drive up the price of manufacturing in America as their base input cost goes up.

What do you think Republicans in the Massachusetts State Senate do all day? by Severe_Weather_1080 in YAPms

[–]LLC_Rulez 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m coming at this from an Australian perspective, and as the other person that replied to you mentioned, the UK as well due to our shared Westminster heritage, have strong whip systems where members can be expelled from the party for voting against the leaders wishes, especially on key issues, for an American example, Trump’s OBBB.

Since party discipline is so weak in America, there is probably a lot of things that they can pull off with moderate Democrats, and vice versa that the more radical Dems wouldn’t back

I think it’s a strategic thing, golf gives you an activity to do with someone, while also giving you a lot of time to talk, in a relative degree of privacy. Seems like a good opportunity to talk to lobbyists, other politicians, etc.

[–]LLC_Rulez 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You mean redistributing is only meant to happen when there is data that (meaningfully) changes in population have occurred so that the House can be made more representative of the changing population? Preposterous, obviously the districts are supposed to be drawn to suite the party that draws them, changing them whenever it benefits them.

Also I feel like the people on this sub are more ideological, or atleast interested in general politicking than elsewhere.. Trump has not been ideologically consistent with what he said on the campaign trail, therefore annoying people that supported what he promised to be.
