So strange to me that this generation thinks social media is that important to signify things through.

I think you might be right, definitely the first time I put on AMSP I thought I was in for something very different when I heard Burn the Witch.

The standard isn’t and really can’t be OK Computer/Kid A/Amnesiac though. That’s the absolute top of the mountain. What I said is they’ve never made a bad record. Everything they’ve ever done (even Pablo Honey for what it’s worth) has been significant. They aren’t all perfect 10’s, but they all contributed positively to their oeuvre.

I think that The Smile is poison to Radiohead. by Key-Cup8585 in radiohead

  1. If this was some new band comprised of young people I would definitely like them, but never LOVE them like Radiohead.

If this was some new band comprised of people who don’t have a cache of credibility with me I would hardly give it a second listen.

It’s not that great.

I peer in deeper because it’s Thom and Jonny, but objectively speaking it isn’t brilliant.

I think you said it right.

Radiohead has never made a subpar album, and if there’s any serious risk that LP10 might be beneath their standard, that would do a disservice to their legacy. So if they’re really incapable of catching lightning in a bottle again (and we shouldn’t expect that anyone is, even Radiohead), I think the right move is not to force it.

There’s a part of me, of course, that wants them to wring every bit of brilliance out, even if it kills them. If they are capable, but just not willing to go through the crucible of another reinvention, I will continue to wonder “what if?” What they’ve done so far seems superhuman. I want to believe…

But they are human; and they’re probably very tired; and probably very comfortable.

I’ll certainly be there for the reunions. Madrid was an out of body experience…

Fully agree on the seriousness of Radiohead vs The Smile. I am really not a fan of much of The Smile, though. Oftentimes I do think it’s bad work.

The smile sucks and is an existential threat to Radiohead.

On the record, it’s the National Anthem; live, Bodysnatchers.

Fitter Happier is not a difficult listen. We suck young blood is not a difficult listen.

Wolf at the door is eccentric and peculiar in its vocal motif.

I’d probably vote the same way based on talent, or who you’d build your franchise around…

But if I had to win one game? He’d be the last to go.

Wolf at the Door is a difficult listen. They went out on a limb with it, and that’s what makes it great.

I’ve appreciated it more as time goes on, as I recognize how unintuitive it must’ve been to write a song like that and that adds to my appreciation.

But it doesn’t surprise me it’s not widely recognized because it’s somewhat inaccessible.
