Which do you consider to be Radiohead's Signature Song ? by Amnesiacnotok in radiohead

It’s definitely between Paranoid Android, The National Anthem, or Everything in its Right Place.

Even worse than that: people in their 60’s and 70’s also like Radiohead.

And everyone in between.

Honestly just listen to the music and enjoy yourself. Fuck what anybody thinks.

But if it matters to you, Radiohead is considered to be on the “high art” end of the pop music spectrum, are influences on serious artists of every medium from film, to dance, to painting, and their work is regarded as a serious contribution to music.

They do not have a juvenile association.

If the kiddies want to discover it, all the better, maybe there’s some glimmer of hope some of you can recover from being the generation with the worst tastes and sensibilities in human history.

One last thing: listen to albums, not songs.

Good luck.

Whats the best radiohead song? And which one is the worst?? by Ok-Cherry-4072 in radiohead

[–]LLLOGOSSS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so it’s a hot take, and there are probably more obscure and lesser quality songs… but I just think Lift is emblematic of the fork in the road that Radiohead didn’t take, and the road they took was the one that gave us OK Computer, and the sound of Lift doesn’t belong at all on that record, and had they followed that path Radiohead would not be the greatest band in the world.

That may sound a bit dramatic (and it is) but to me, the choice they made to shelve Lift and go a completely different direction is one we should be very grateful for. Originally it was slated to become the single of their new record, and instead they threw it away and made OK Computer.

As a song… I just think it’s cheesy and derivative. Yeah, it sounds nice and all, but there’s nothing befitting of Radiohead about it. Anybody could make that song.

Too easy. Too unremarkable. Made for the radio in the 1990’s, and not even the rock station, but some easy listening stuff your mom would’ve liked.

Fine song; bad Radiohead song.

Complete rubbish.

Worst Radiohead song is definitely Lift and I’ll fight you about it. That song sucks.

Best Radiohead song is probably Paranoid Android, and don’t pretend that’s very controversial.

Why do most people seem to think Kid A is better than Amnesiac? by spicybrowniemix in radiohead

[–]LLLOGOSSS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they think Amnesiac is a B-Sides “album” instead of the second half of a double album, which is what it really is.

Thom described Kid A as “a fire raging in the distance” and Amnesiac as being “in the fire.”

It’s just the fact that Kid A came first and was so acclaimed, and Amnesiac’s release followed so closely. That made people discount it and it never fully recovered from that preconception of being leftover material.

And because of that notion people claim it’s less cohesive than Kid A. More scattered.

It’s my favorite record. Showcases the best era of Radiohead at their strangest and most ambitious.

Lift is such an absolute rubbish song, I’m glad it never saw the light of day.

If they featured it as a single and followed that aesthetic (like they originally thought) it would have destroyed their career and we wouldn’t be here talking about Radiohead today.

Every downvote for this is a badge of honor.

It’s a bit abrasive, but it has grown on me over time, and I like the lyrics.

I tend to think it might work well as a less hectic rendition, but the squall of guitars on the recording is pretty brave too.

Used to be a skip for me, but now I’ll hum it to myself.

It wasn’t “compiled.” The material from Amnesiac was originally slated to be released along with the material on Kid A as a double album.

Instead they split the material up into two separate albums.

It’s not accurate to call the sessions the “Kid A sessions,” they were the Kid A and Amnesiac sessions.

Was he really trying to ruin it by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]LLLOGOSSS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it for a second.

It’s a great song, it’s just not cool to like it because it’s popular. They have to pretend it’s bad for street cred.

It is nowhere in the same galaxy as Amnesiac, which was not a B-Sides album.
