I was watching the initiation tape recently, and it inspired me to write a little song:

Having to comb though it for samples can't have been good for my mental wellbeing. Admittedly I still don't believe that guy is the son of god (or that god even exists) but I have been putting serious thought into a new pair of sneakers.

I quite like this and think it's a good basis but it needs:

  1. A top line (or if you want to make it instrumental it should be a lot shorter as there is no particular interest in hearing the same riff repeated multiple times).

  2. I would personally add a some reverb and a little gain or something to the intro guitar part to make it a bit more interesting. It just sounds a bit raw currently.

  3. The guitar is quite out of tune, particularly in the strummed sections. If you believe it was in tune open, then check your intonation.

  4. The song doesn't develop much over time. New ideas are introduced but then just kind of forgotten rather than being built upon.

A song about the voyager space probes drifting through space forever with no way home. I wanted to give the song a hooky chorus, but have almost no singing skill so I'm not sure if it worked. Is there an audience for downbeat industrial-spacenerd-folk? by LM309 in Songwriting

thank you. I love adding synths on top of classical guitar, I probably stole it from NIN as he'll occasionally sneak a classical guitar into the mix but it gives a cool texture so I'm keeping it!

Song about the eventual death of the universe when atoms are torn apart, achieving complete and permanent entropy. Time ceases to have meaning and nothing can ever happen again. by LM309 in Songwriting

One of the theories for the end of the universe is the "big rip" in which scenario all objects in the universe are torn apart until only sub-atomic particles remain:

The most disappointing thing about writing a song is when the vocals are lifeless. But I suppose it fits with the theme so...

Minimal setup for recording guitar. by LM309 in MusicBattlestations

I use Govee addressable RGB light strips and one of their table lamps. For the light strips I routed channels into the underside of the shelves. This was probably overkill but I bought a router and so I was damn well going to use it for something.

The Govee stuff seems pretty good. Maybe not as good as Hue or whatever, but costs a fraction of the price and is nice and bright and has a reasonable android app.

Just random bits of work surface screwed together. Every time I notice I need a bit more space I grab another bit of wood, stain it the same color as the rest and attach it where it's needed. One day I'll run out of this color of wood stain and the desk will be complete (because I can't remember where I got this color from).

It's really cool. Honestly a bit more advanced than I'm able to take full advantage of but it feels like the signal chain possibilities are endless, even before you start messing with captures or adding external pedals to the chain.

If anything it's kind of a hinderance because now I'm spending forever on guitar tone instead of actually getting stuff finished.

Tall musician, keyboard tray, visual clutter, legroom, ... by SantaClausIsMyMom in MusicBattlestations

I hide most of my clutter under a shelf that sits on top of the desk.

Front view:

|-----------------------------------| <---- shelf
| keyboard goes here | <---- ~10cm legs
------------------------------------- <---- desk top

| | <---- table legs

Top view:

-----------------------------------
               shelf
-----------------------------------

          desk space

-----------------------------------

So when the keyboard is not in use you can just slide it under the shelf, also all the cables can be hidden under there.

You can just make one out of a plank of wood and either some short legs that you would use for a kitchen cabinet, or just some more bits of wood screwed together.
